The table we were playing on had a large open space in the middle with an 8 inch thick wood running down the left hand side
We rolled to deploy first and he won.
He started by deploying his first unit of skeletons on the centre of his deplyment zone, I responded by putting my first unit of basic saurus in line with them, for his next deplyoments he put down his remaining 2 skeleton units which I once again responded by putting my other basic saurus and the unit with spears in line with them. Next he deployed his wolves on the far right of the board which I met with the skinks and kroxigor next he deployed his hideous number of black coaches in bettween these wolves and the skeletons which I responded to with the 2 units of skink skirmishers. Finaly he deployed the grave guard on the far left next to the forest and (at the time merely as a deterent) I deplyed the temple guard to meet them.
Turn:1 We rolled to go first and he won this roll as well much to my annoyance. He started my advancing the wolves and coaches their maximum move distance, the skeletons began shambling forwards as did the grave guard. His magic phase was not that impressive with his lord attempting to cast summon undead horde with 3 power dice and failing followed by and invocation of nekek on the skeletons closest to him which I dispelled His vampires all attempted to cast dance macabre with 2 getting it off (one of which I dispelled) the one that worked was used on the grave guard unit. Coaches Evocation did nothing. With no shooting or combat it was my turn.
I was worried about the speed of the grave guard closing on my temple guard as I knew that I wouldnt be able to hold them off for long. As a result I left the temple guard where they were, the kroxigor and skinks moved forward 4 inches as did the skirmishers, all saurus units moved forwards 8 inches. Thus was to begin my most fluked and successfull magic phases ever. Evocation from the coahes robbed me of 2 dice wihich wasent that bad but was annoying. Panicking I decided to attempt to use all my slann magic on the unit of grave guard advancing at me with the skinks trying to weaken the coaches. thankfully both my skink priests had uranons (or however its spelt) thunderbolt so I cast these against the black coaches, understandably both of these were dispelled by his sea of dispell dice with the lord saving his for my slann. I decided to attempt comet of Cassandora in front of the grave guard. I rolled 3 dice and.......miscast, I said several words that i'd prob get banned from the forum if i repeated and then remembered the cupped hands of the old ones. My savior!!! So I roll a dice higher than a 2? excellent oh wait whats this rule on a 5 or a 6 an enemy wizard in line of sight will suffer the miscast instead?!?!? Well I could see his vampire lord I rolled the dice and you guessed it 6. He then rolled on the miscast table and would you believe it DOUBLE 1 !!! After waving goodbye to his overpriced general he then found ourselves in the position of crumbling. Rolling a 12 and failing his ward one of the coaches crashed and burned before doing a thing another coach passed and another would have suffered 1 wound but managed its ward, the wolves lost 3 of their number. One of the skeleton units passed its leadership with another taking 4 losses and the final taking 6. the grave guard held up with 1 loss.
Turn 2: After more bad language and several biscuits he began moving forward again though weakened significantly after the last turn. This time he had lost another 4 grave guard to crumbling along with 5 skeletons frm one group, 2 from another and none from the last one again. One of the coaches suffered 1 wound and the wolves were fine. Once again nothing was in range to charge so he began the magic phase. (once again evocation did nothing to him) 2 of his vampires used invocation to heal their sqauds while the final one attempted and failed to summon an undead hoard. once again no shooting or combat so my turn again.
I started my moving the saurus blocks slightly forward but not far enugh that he would be able to charge me next turn. Next the skinks and krox moved back so as to be out of charge range of the wolves and the skirmishers moved forwards slightly to put them in range of the wolves. The magic phase was not as successfull as last time with the gave guard suffering 4 wounds from uranons thunderbolt from the slann with his dispel pool being to large for me to get any other spells off, evocation took 1 dice. In the first shooting phase of the game one unit of skinks got all its shots off at the wolves while the other only had 8 in range. First unit of skinks hit with 24 out of 40 darts out of these 12 wounded, the other unit hit 4 times out of 16 shots and only wounded once. yet again no combat.
Turn 3: This time a further 2 graveguard were lost to crumbling as were 3 skeletons form one unit, 4 from another and 3 from the last. The coach that had suffered a wound last turn suffered another 2 bringing it to 1 left. The wolves suffered 1 wound. In the first charge of the game the remaining 4 wolves charged the closest unit of skinks though a successfull stand and shoot killed them all off (yes they passed their panic test). one of the remaining coaches charged the other unit (whcih failed its panic test and ran back but did not reach the board edge. The other coach moved forward aiming to flank the saurus, while the rest of his army kept up its shambling march. Evocation took 1 dice from him while this time all his wizards focussed on invocations to keep his battle line together.
The failed charge of the black coach with 1 wound left was to tempting to leave so after failing a leadership again from the fleeing skinks (who now ran right to the edge of the board) I declared a charge from the skinks and kroxigor at it(passed fear test). All units of saurus charged the skeletons (after passing fear tests) and the slann stayed where he was. The other skink unit moved forward and behind the undead lines. For the first magic phas in the game I did not lose any dice to evocation and decided to target all magic against the grave guard who were in range to charge now. The remaining skink priest managed to get spell past the undead dispel pool for the first time and inflicted 3 wounds on the grave guard with uranons thunderbolt. The slann further reduced this number by 4 withthe same spell(yes I know i'm not very creative over the spells I use) bringing the number of guard down to 5. In the combat phase things went quite well. The strength 6 attacks of the kroxigor cut through the chariot with relative ease while the saurus held strong against the skeletons. the unit with spears inflicted 5 wounds suffering only 1 back in return from the vampire, I won combat res by 3 points. The saurus unit on the left inflicted 4 wounds on the skeletons and 1 on the vampire leading them through a challenge though the champion was lost in the process, once again I won by 2 points. The saurus unit on the right faltered causing only 1 wound and suffering 4 wounds back in return with the champion lost to the vampire in a challenge. I lost the combat by 5 points though was able to make an insane courage leadership so the saurus stayed put.
Turn 4 (final turn): one in the middle suffered 2 and the one on the right passed. Testing for crumbling the grave guard were fine, the skeletons on the left suffered 3 wounds, Good news for my flank as the final black coach rolled double 6s followed by failed wards and crumbled out of existance. Commendably he charged the remaining grave guard into the slann regiment which was all his movement. For his magic phase he focussed on casting invocation on the grave guard which I let him have as I wanted to have a fairer fight. 2 invocations on the grave guard brought back 8 models which brought their numbers back up to 13. The final invocation was cast on the vampire which had been reduced to 1 wound which i promptly dispelled. In the combat phase he issued a challenge with the grave guard seneschal which I answered with chakax striking first and inflicting all 4 wounds before his unit even attacked. Next to strike was the revered guardian inflicting a further 2 wounds on the guard. The remaining 4 in the front rank struck back killing 2 temple guard and wounding another who was saved by his armour, the only remaining temple guard who had his attacks killed another guard. The final combat resolution had me winning by 6 points leaving only 3 guard facing me. The vampire led skeletons had a terrible round with the group on the left inflicting no wounds and losing the vampire to the saurus champion in a fluky challenge while suffering 4 wounds back in return. The group in the middle suffered 5 wounds with only 2 wounds in return from the vampire while the combat on the right had no casualties on either side. The skeletons on the left were so overwhelmed by combat res that the remaining 5 faded away. Once again the saurus in the middle won by 1 point while the ones on the right fled this time failing to be overun by the saurus.
Knowing that otherwise they would be doing nothing I flank charged the skeleton unit that had overun with the skinks and kroxigor along with the skirmishes for good measure. The saurus on the left wheeled and charged into the flank of the skeleton unit in the middle. No magic and by this point both of us could see how this comba was going to go, to put it bluntly and quickly the skeleton unit in the middle lost so many models that it to crumbled to non existence while the one on the right inflicted 1 wound on the skinks and suffered 12 wounds in return ending the battle with the vampire and a single line of skeletons on the table.
Ok so I know that I only won that so easily because of the miscast fiasco on my first turn but that is what the cupped hands of the old ones is for . We've re-scheduled a re-match for some time next week so I'll write that one up to let you know how it goes if anyone asks for it. Hope you liked the report.

This was an enjoyable report to read, thanks for taking the time to write it up. However, it is quite sour to be a VC-player when something like that happens to your lord in the very beginning of the game.
I've one thing to comment on though, black coaches does not need to test for crumbling if the general is destroyed. They have the Vampire special rule, as do the varghulf and blood knights, which allows them to keep on going even after the general has left the field. One time I could save myself from being massacred thanks to a unit of blood knights tag-teaming with a varghulf after my general miscasted herself off the field on turn 2, heheh.
Anyway, I look forward to reading the report of the re-match as well. Let's hope that your friend will have a bit better fortune next time around, huh?
seriously they dont crumble!?!? Well i guess he shot himself in the foot really saying that everything in his army had to crumble but i suppose it makes more sense, dang it now i feel like i had a sham victory thanks for letting me know anyway seeing as no doubt he'll take all 3 again nxt time

Yup, right after the vampire rule in the book it states "Models with the vampire rule and characters never suffer wounds because of a destroyed general"

Come join me at my GT this September www.brewfestgt.com
well i dont have a vc army book so I had to ring him to look it up and now we both feel like pillocks
Doh, that would be a real problem if your vamp general lord just pops to an enemy miscast, heh.
Out of curiousity, why 3k points but only 1 lord & 3 hero characters? The best part about that point level is the second lord choice... imagine, 2 slann & 4 skink priests (or 3 priests + chakax)! :p
the simple reason why we only have those characters is because both of us tend to spend to much on Characters as it is so we prefer to keep their numbers down so we have points free for other things, we sometimes take more characters and i think that I may in the re-match tomorow because i'd rather not risk losing a slann to miscast and being left under-powered in the magic phase, anyway probably best if you ignore this due to the mistake with the black coaches, ill try to get a write up of the re-match up tomorow
Chakax looks like he is a phenomenal character killer. I have just gotten the 7th ed Lizardmen book and I haven't played any games with it. If you use Chakax again, and he gets a bit more action, I'd love to hear how he turns out. I love your combination of Chakax with the Temple Guard and Sword of the Hornet. Put together, they really put a hurting on chargers!
I will definitely try that combo out. With them guarding my Slaan, I wouldn't be nearly so nervous about letting him get close to the fighting. But first I want to play around with some AncientStegadon/SkinkChief 2D6+1 impact hits!
