It's been a while (Had some family issues), so I wanted to start off slow with my reporting again.
I finally got my Ogre's into their first Tournament 2250pts. This tournament used a comp system where 4 judges would review your list and score you from 1 to 30. (My list got 30 comp, some others like the Thorek Dwarf Gunline got 0).
Pictures may come later:
Tyrant – Great Weapon, Luck Gnoblar, Heavy Armour, Kineater, Wyrdstone Necklace – 280 pts.
Brusier BSB, Heavy Armour, Bull Gut, Sword of Might – 209 pts
Butcher, Skullmantel, Siegebreaker, 2 Tooth Gnoblars – 190 pts.
Butcher, 1 Tooth Gnoblar, Bang Stick, Dispel Scroll – 185 pts
3 Bulls, Hand Weapon, Iron fist, Light Armour, Full Command – 179pts
3 Iron Guts, Full Command, War Banner – 219 pts.
3 Iron Guts, Full Command – 194 pts
3 Leadbelchers, Bellower – 175 pts.
3 Bulls, Hand Weapon, Iron fist, Light Armour, Full Command – 179pts
1 Gorger – 75 pts.
1 Slavegiant – 175 pts.
20 Gnoblars, Groinbiter – 42 pts
1 Scrapalauncher – 165 pts.
2247 pts total.
Scenario: Ogre Chef’s Delite
All Wizards that miscast roll on the gut magic table, since the armies meals were prepared by an Ogre Butcher.
His List from memory:
Treemen Ancient, Spite (Annoyance of Netlings)
2 level 1 mages, each with 2 dispel scrolls.
Alter, Hail of Doom Arrow,
2 units of 12, full command, Glade Guard
3 units of 8 dryads
2 units of War Dancers
1 unit of Glade Riders
1 unit of 5 Wild Riders
1 unit of 3 War Hawk Riders
1 unit of 5 Way Watchers
Had 6 large rocks, but the ruling in the tournament was that any flat area around the rocks would count as woods for movement only. (No Treesinging). So in effect he had 7 woods on the table because of his free wood.
Everyone moved up, Gaint ran forward attempting to cause terror.
I didn’t realize he had an alter he looked so much like his war dancers, anyway I hit him and the unit next to him with the Scrapa Launcher, but rolled a 1 to wound him and killed a couple of War Dancers.
His alter moved up and hail of doomed by leadbelchers wipping them out. Then his Glade Riders rode to the edge of woods and my Scrapa Launcher was forced to charge them, and run into the woods destroying itself.
Basically, all of his units were in the woods or wooded area of the terrain for the entire game. First, my Tyrant unit allowed it to be charged in the flank by the war dancers and way watchers, he choose +1 Strength Dance. He wounded my Tyrant, but in a flurry of attacks I killed 4 War Dancers, and my unit killed 2 way watchers, he broke and fled never to rally.
Next, my Giant was destroyed by 20 Glade Guard in a single turn.
Then, I finally charged his unit of Dryad’s hiding in the stones, in the front and back. He attempted to say that since I charged his front first, all of his models would rank against that unit and that my rear charging unit would fail its charge. We called the Redshirt and he ruled as long as I had enough movement left to contact them after the rank up against my other unit I could still charge. This actually gave be a bull charge. His unit of Dryads, was nearly wipped out leaving only one remaining who fled and I overran into his unit of War Hawk Riders, killing them next turn.
Finally, I gave him the chance to rear charge my butcher with Skullmantel and Siegebreaker Irongut unit. (They just cast Troll Guts on themselves) He rear charged them with his Dryads and front charged them with his Alter. Butcher landed two hits and killed his alter. My Irongut champion and unit pummeled his dryads killing 4 of them. He broke due to the Skullmantel and we overran into his Treeman Ancient where I missed on all of my attacks due to the spite, I still won the combat and the Treemen made his stubborn test.
The Game ended in a draw. 10-10
Notes: With every piece of terrain counting as woods, I just could not engage him in combat. If he hadn’t charged me he could have avoided fighting me for the entire game. Luckly, he took the bait when I exposed the rear of my units and charged.
Warriors of Chaos:
Scenario: Kill’em all
Only get points for units killed or below half, no table quarters , banners or any thing else. It doesn’t matter what you lose just how many points of the enemy you kill
4 Some Chaos Tar Pits, impassable terrain. 2 in the middle of the table
His List from Memory:
Hero of Slaanesh, Great Sword
Hero of Nurgle BSB,
Wizard, with 2 dispel scrolls
2 units of Mounted Mauraders, Slannesh
1 unit of hounds,
1 unit of 15 Chaos Warriors, Hand Weapon, Shield, Nurgle
1 unit of 15 Chaos Warriors, Hand Weapon, Shield, Slannesh
1 unit of 20 Chosen, Hand Weapon, Shields
2 War Shines of Chaos
His Chosen unit takes its free roll, and he rolls and 11 adds 1 to it and get a 12. 4+ Ward save if I remember correctly.
He moves his units forward, and sets up a Chaos Warrior wall with Chaos Tarpits protecting his flanks. (There goes any attempt to flank him). His chosen unit is then buffed 2 more times by each Warshine (This would continue every turn unit I was able to kill them). He gets +1 attacks and +1 Armour save or something like that. His Marauder cavalry moves up the flanks and stops.
My Ogre’s move forward, I get some spells off giving each of my units Regeneration, and one of them Stubborn.
His does nothing on his next turn, except try to dispel my Ogre spells in play. He fails.
My Lead Belchers open fire I get 24 hits and wounds 8 times, he makes 4 armour saves and loses 4 Slannesh Chaos Warriors.
I charge his Nurgle unit with my Iron Guts and Brusier BSB, I charge his chosen with my Tyrant units and my Butcher with Siege Breaker Iron Gut unit. This also engages both War Shines. Both combats go well, I kill some Nurgle warriors on the Bull Charge and some more with my Brusier BSB and Sword of might. But he holds his ground.
In the Other combat, I Siege Breaker his one War shine and he fails 3 wards saves, it dies. (Amazing Luck really). However, with my Tyrant I Cause 4 wounds on his other War Shine and he makes 4 War Saves. (So really a wash). Nothing else wounds, but I hold my ground.
Now for the Amazing thing, My Gnoblars shoot his Marauder Cavalry and kill 3 wipping out the unit. This caused panic in his hounds and they fled also. (Not bad for 42 pts of Gnoblars)
While both battles continue, my Gaint is destroyed by his other Marauder Cavalry (I under estimated their charge range). My Scrapa Launcher then charges though the Cavalary and into the flank of the Warrior of Slannesh (Rolls a 1 for impact hits), while at the same time my Gorger charges the front. The Gorger, causes one wound on his Slaanesh Hero, but I roll a 6 Killing Blow takes him down, His units strikes back and kills the Gorger and puts two wounds on the Chariots which breaks and is run down.
Finally, I weaken his Nurgle unit and it breaks and is run down. (He failed to dispel my Troll guts 3 times in a row on this unit)
In the Center my Tyrant kills his other Warshine, but his armour saves on his unit, plus the ward are so good, I just can’t hurt it with any of my ogres. Both of my units break and run and he pursues killing my Butcher unit. My Tyrant unit rallies and the game ends.
Draw: 12-10 in points.
That Chosen unit was the toughest unit I have every faced in Warhammer. Plus with all the terrain and how he used it to protect his flanks, I don’t know what I could have done versus it. Also the fact that table quarter didn’t counts or standards really screwed me. I would have had 3 table quarter and I killed his general and BSB. Anyway the fact that the unit keeps it’s bonuses even after the Warshines are killed is IMO broken.
Scenario: Lightning Storm
Basically, the battle was taking place in a lightning storm. At the start of each player turn the player could target and enemy unit with a lightning bolt. This cause D3 S6 hits on the unit. If cast into close combat both all units in combat would be affected.
Some impassable building and a couple of woods.
Dwarf Lord, Great Weapon.
Dwarf Thane, BSB, Immune to fear and Terror
Rune Smith, with rune that takes a power dice.
1 Unit of 20 Long Beards, full command
2 Units of 20 warriors, full command.
2 Units of 10 Quarellers, Standard
1 Cannon, with Master Engineer, 1D6 wounds per shot, rune of reloading
His Lightning on Giant and causes 3 wounds. He moves his Gyrocopter behind me to march block.
He ignores my Giant with his cannon (He says I’ll just kill it with Lightning). His cannon ball rips through my Ogres and he rolls amazing killing 4 total causing panic in my butchers unit, but my Tyrants unit is immune due to Beast Killer big name.
I called Lightning on his Gyrocopter, but put one wound on it.
My units moved up, my Scraplauncher landed on top of his BSB unit, he made his look out sir roll. I killing blow 4 Dwarfs and 1 more who failed his armour. They passed their panic test.
My Giant is hit with lightning again and has one wound remaining, its charges the Gyrocopter which makes it’s flee. This allows my troops to march again. His Cannon kills more Ogre’s leaving only a few remaining and it finally has its line of sight blocked by the Gnoblars, who bickered on their way there. My Scrapa Launcher hit’s its mark and lands on top of the Cannon, The master engineer is hit, but I rolled a 1 to wound (Darn Luck). However, I kill 3 other crew, 2 with Killing Blow.
I hit the Gyrocopter again, but roll 1 hit and then a 1 to wound. Finally, I charge his line. My Gaint is shot dead, on the stand and shoot by the Quarllers. However, my BSB charges into the Flank of them and kills 5. He now outnumbers them due to his Bull Gut, they break and are scatter by the BSB. My Butcher with Skullmantel and Ironguts break his other warrior unit as the siege breaker brings down the Runesmith.
My Tyrant, had joined the Butcher and a remaining Bull. They charged into his Lord and Warrior unit. In the Challenge my Tyrant killed his lord and had 2 overkill total, I narrowly won combat, but he held due to the BSB unit next to them. His BSB unit then flank charged my Tyrant unit and broke them next turn. I got away and rallied.
His warriors charged my Gnoblars and because their hate had to pursue them when they fled. My Scrapalauncher charged their exposed flank and rolled 6+1 impact hit, plus 2 wounds for the Rhinox and 1 wound for the Gnoblars, I broke the unit and overran it. The Cannon then destroyed my Scrapalauncher with a direct hit.
In the Last turn, the lightning destroyed his Gyrocopter. I charged my BSB who joined with the Butcher and Irongut unit into the Dwarf BSB unit. I hit them in the flank, but even though they lost they held on a re-rollable 4.
His final turn his other warrior unit charged into my BSB and Irongut unit on the flank, breaking them and failing to catch them.
The Lightning pretty much messed up my strategy of using my Gaint as a target for his cannon. However, overall this was the most fun game of the 3 games I played. Both of our lists were well balanced with nothing over the top.
Overall I ended up 5th place out of 17 players, mainly due to Comp scores, as I said I was one of the few who scored max of 30 points, and I scored a 25 points for painting.
This tournament was the first for my Ogre’s, and I learned a lot from it. I plan on removing the Gaint and putting a unit of Maneaters in place of it. I also think I may remove the Scrapa Launcher and go with a unit of Yhette’s, since I need something to go into difficult terrain.
Let me know what you think?
Good Luck in Future Battles

Good report. After reading the whole thing I have great sympathy for the giant. Poor guy never stood a chance...
Tell me about it. However, it is one of my coolest conversions so I usually bring it.
Yeah the ogres giant isn't that good. However you may find yhetees even worse. No armor and only T4. I suggest dropping the giant and getting a 2nd gorger, which will free up a bunch of points.
Overall its nice to see ogres representing.
Good write up.

Good report. I love seeing average armies doing good. What I mean by that is ones that are not over the top. Some people are trying to bring comp scores back. Our local store just started a comp tournment every other month. Special characters are punished by 1000 points. And of course I had a problem with the comp system. A star dragon is negative 1200 points and a blood thirster is negative 800. Now that seems fair to me.
Our comp scores were decided by the Judges (4 of them to be exact).
They looked at your list and rated it from 1 to 30.
Again there is room for error, but most of the crazy lists got really low scores.
A stardragon is minus 1200 points that is not fair. Where I play a stardragon is seen as completely fair and I think it is fair as sure it is good in combat but it is the only good dragon for the high elves. The other ones are useless. Look at the chaos dragon, it is cheaper by 10 points weapon skill six ( star has 7) and it has 2 breath weapons one of which is armour ignoring. Also the high elves only have a prince on thier dragon the WoC have a chaos lord, T5 S5 WS7 pure destruction.
That tournament is forcing high elves who don't want to follow the stereotypical magic/ teclis mad. In fact at my GW I am aplauded for using minimal magic. I couldn't do that and still win( unless I use Tyrion or eltherion) without a stardragon. And by no means do I always win I play for fun but it is not fun just to lose I like winning occasionally.
I can see why they penalise the special characters and maybe they went over the top on the blood thirster ( -350 seems fair) but they act as if the dragon is unkillable think of using bloodthirster, cannons, steamtanks, carnisaurs, slann, other dragons, bolt throwers, magic like beasts cowers or infernal gateway, etc. Yes it is difficult to kill which makes a change from the T3 rest of the army but it is a real proper dragon not tone of the patetic others who couln't kill a stegadon or griffon.
Well done on the tournament though

Daemonic cheese-how? Well, you would need to start with daemonic milk, i guess...
Nice battlereport, it is cool to have ogres represented. The wood elves player was a cheater however (if this isn't a other edition rulebook) because wardancers don't have a dance for +1 strength (I play wood elves myself)
Dont anger the dragon, he'll let it rain on you all day long. :P
Is there a place where I could see some pictures of you army?
Ave Dominus Nox!
Well I did, but the website was shut down.
I'm trying to get them on Flickr now.
