Be aware that:
1. My first language is not English.
2. I am an old player who did not play any games in the last 8 years until very recently. It shows in the number of rookie mistakes I did.
3. This is my first battle report on LO. Please tell me if this is good enough and how I could do this better.
I hope you can learn from my mistakes and enjoy this!
Check my post here (Slaanesh Cavalry 2000pts).
My opponent army:
1 Warrior Priest on warhorse
1 Templar Gand Master on warhorse (Laurels of Victory, Sword of Power)
1 Wizard Lvl2, 2x scrolls
1 Captain, bsb inside the swordsmen
2x 6 Knights, one with the Warbanner (Templar Gand Master goes here)
-2 units of 18 Flagellants
- detachment of 5 crossbowmen
2 x Great Canons
24 Swordsmen and a detachment of 10 Free Company
He rolled 1 and 4 on the Death lore. I am going to skip his magic since it only did 1 wound on the spawn.
Sorcerer Lord: Lash of Slanesh(1), Hellshriek(2), Titillating Delusions(4) and Ecstatic Seizures(6) on
Lvl2 mounted: Flickering Fire(1), Treason of Tzeentch(4)
Lvl2 on foot: Flaming Sword, Flickering Fire, Call to Glory and Infernal Gateway.
Here is a rough picture.
I got the first turn and moved my army forward. I manage to cast Treason of Tzeentch on the swordsmen and killed 3.
My opponent moved his unit forward. Shot canon balls on my chariot (missed it) and on my lord (hit him, but rolled one to wound), that canon ball killed one chaos knight. He also fired his crossbowmen on my lord and did one wound.
I can't get the charge with my frenzied knights on his knights and Templar Grand Master. I moved them forward and got the lvl2 out of the unit. Big mistake here I should have waited for reinforcement (I underestimated the Templar Grand Master). I get the sorcerer lord into the marauder horsemen unit. I manage to get ecstatic seizure on the swordsmen unit (this is pathetic, I should have targeted a knight unit). It still kills 12 swordsmen!!!
He charges with his knights and grand master: I kill one knights and I loses nothing, draw and I loose since I did not pay for the musician (big mistake here). I still hold. The rest of the armies move. He shoots the chariot and kills it and the other great canon misfire (2 rounds down). His crossbowmen and pistoliers shoot the warhounds and they panic and flee... He charges with his BSB out of the swordsmen unit into my marauder horsemen with the sorcerer lord and .... I flee. He charges my warhounds with his flagellant and ... I flee.
I rallied my lord and the horsemen. Both warhounds fled off the table (what a lost!). I charge with my chaos warriors his BSB (he was alone in the middle of the field since he failed that charge). He flees... I kill 3 knights in CC and the Grand Templar kills two (4 CR!!! + 2 for the Banners), I loose badly and flee outside of the table (bad positioning should not have tilted the unit)! I then charge the flagellant with my 4 Chaos Knights (killed 4 guys, got no loss). My sorcerer lords and horsemen moves behind enemy lines and cast Hellshriek: one canon crew flees and the swordsmen unit also (panic bomb!!!). The rest of my magic phase is worthless.
He then charges my mounted lvl 2 with his knights and Grand Master (no wounds, I hold my break test). The canon crew rallies and the swordsmen and BSB flee yet again. He moves units on his left flank toward the centre.
I charge the flagellant with my chaos warriors (already in combat with the chaos knights). This is really a blood bath, only two flagellants to go. I manage to cast call to glory on my chaos warriors unit (useless overkill). The rest of my magic phase failed miserably with one miscast I think (he gets to cast a free spell...). I charge one of the canon crew with the first marauders unit (kills it) and the second marauder horsemen (with the sorcerer lord) charges the free company detachment and kills it (they had been targeted with flickering fire before). I then pursue and I am right next to the second canon.
He does a flank charge with his second flagellant unit on my chaos knights and kills one. I wipe the first flagellant unit and I won the overall combat. He misfire on his grapeshot on my marauders + sorcerer lord unit (I did an overrun and I finished my movement right next to the canon). The rest of his units are now surrounding my knights and warriors in the centre while my marauders and sorcerer lord are deep in his right flank. But the time is up and we need to go.
Marginal Defeat for the Warriors of Chaos.

"He charges with his knights and grand master: I get lucky and I kill one knights"
How is that lucky? You have 15 WS-5 S-5 and 10 WS-3 S4 attacks, I don't know the WS of his Knights but I'm basing my math on it being a 4.
You should have averaged 3.25 kills by my accounting if he whiffed his attacks.
It was a good battle report, I was just confused about your definition of 'luck' and thinking perhaps you might have not used your full allotment of attacks. I've never seen an Empire player with so many flagellents but then again I haven't played much since 7th came out, are they better in 7th than in 6th? I remember they were just like a field of wheat before a big combine to my Knights of Khorne in 6th.
The knights were a meat shield for the Grand Master. The double CR he had for the kills (Laurels of Victory) was my doom.
flaggelents are unbreakable now. were they before?

Yeah, that's the whole point of them. They just have no armour, lousy weapons and T3. So my Knights of Khorne do 14 wounds in an average round of combat.
How did he have 2 units of flagelants? my book only allows 1 unit only, that are a rare choice, with ability for them to become core if I take a wp? (not 1 rare and 1 core)
If an Army includes one or More Prince of Sigmar (Warrior Priest or Arch Lectors) you may include one (and only one) Flagellant Warband as a Core Units choice instead of rare choice."
This means you can only have one unit counting as core.
Otherwise they just take up Rare slots.
