Gronir watched the men advance through the freezing wasteland, their breath misting in front of their faces. He looked to his right, as his loyal dwarf warriors wheeled their Machines of Death into position, to his left his Quarrellers and thunderers made last minute checks on their weapons. Around him his warriors gently beat the ends of their axes on their shields, creating a noise that echoed against the hard mountains.
Captain Svensk lead his small band of Ulrician warriors forward, the dwarfs on the rise opposite didn't look to friendly, around his his elite bodyguard quivered, shaken by the noise of the Dwarven Warriors.
"Come on lads, their tiny! No match for the warriors of Ulric!" The Captain called to his men, trying to sound confident. This was going to be bloody. His two priests uttered prayers to Ulric for their protection, and chanted speeches to the men, firing them up for the oncoming onslaught.
Gronir Smiled, brave men. As stupid as ever. He thought, before turning slightly towards his cannon crew.
"Fire when ready Bjorn. Fire when ready." He smiled a small half smile, his runic axe glowing. The first shot of the cannon roared behind him...

The Dwarfs got to Pick table quarters, and sat themselves on a hill, the Empire troops deployed their Knights and Mounted Warrior Priest on their Right flank, sheltering behind a long thin hill, the free company with the Warrior Priest on foot were in the centre, while the Greatswords and the Captain deployed next to some ruins.
The Empire went first.
Captain Svensk Waved his sword forward, his knights galloping along the hill, still hidden from enemy fire, his own body guard cautiously advanced through the ruins, while the free company advanced to their right. Arrows flew from the dwarven positions, falling amongst the free company, three of their number fell screaming, their blood staining the snow. A huge bolt from the Dwarven Bolt thrower slammed into the floor behind the Free company - a lucky escape for them, as the snow behind them flew up into the air as the cannon over shot.
The knights charged around the hill, moving straight towards the Dwarven positions. The Free Company and the Greatswords cheered them on, as they galloped towards the Dwarven line. The Warrior Priest looked up at the dwarfs on the hill, and let his jaw fall open in dismay, the Quarrellers and Thunderers aimed down their finely tuned sights at the advancing Knights, and the Cannon and Bolt Thrower Crews wheeled their machines to fire upon them. Arrows, Bullets, Cannon Ball and Bolt. All of these flew into the Knights. It was a massacre. The Infantry cried out in dismay and fury as each knight was thrown to the ground by the Sons of Grungi, "Cowards! Come down here and fight us with your axes you cowards!" Screamed Svensk, but the dwarven line stayed still, the warrior priest prayed for protection.
The remaining Ulricans kept running towards the dwarfs, the greatswords leaving the ruins and hiding behind another set, an old Goblin torture chamber by the looks of things. They dare not enter. The Dwarven Gun line then turned it's attention towards the Free Company who were out of cover. After the shooting, 9 of the Free Company lay dead, however one of the survivors miraculously managed to take a cannonball in the stomach, and just get back up again! Luckily the Bolt Thrower Missed again. The remaining Free Company, and the Warrior Priest could not hold their nerve and the ran back from the Jeering Dwarfs. This isn't going well, thought Svensk, as the banner of the Free Company lay, coated in blood on the floor.
The Warrior Priest composed himself and rallied his remaining men around him, as the great swords moved to the edge of the Fell Ruins. As the Free Company turned however, a wave of arrows fell upon them, Striking into the men's necks, blood streaming forth, again staining the perfectly white snow with a tainted red. The Warrior Priest took an Arrow to the stomach, and fell to his knees, praying to the almighty Ulric for salvation, as the thunderers took careful aim. Ulric wasn't listening. The thunderers shot straight and true, and the warrior priest fell onto his face, dead. Captain Svensk Peered around the corner, the dwarven warriors were marching relentlessly towards them. They wouldn't fire into their own men, he decided, and his men pressed forward, for the first time both cannon and bolt flew true, slaying 3 of the Greatswords. Good men falling to cowardly Dwarfs.
The Greatswords ran screaming from behind the Fell Ruins, as the dwarf warriors ran back, Thane Gronir calling Svensk into a duel, which Svensk gladly accepted. Finaly a chance to get to grip with these dwarfs. Hacking away with their axes, the dwarf warriors managed to bring down one of the Greatswords, losing one of their number in the fighting. Captain Svensk raised his Two handed sword, flaring with magical energy, but the Dwarf was too quick for him, his glowing Runic Axe slicing open the Man's soft stomach like a knife cutting butter, a second across the captain's throat left Svensk dazed on the verge of death. A final blow to the head sent the standing corpse to the ground. Seeing their beloved leader dead the Greatswords fled in confusion, managing to escape the Dwarf warriors.
Massacre in favour of the Dwarfs (having only taken one casualty)
This battle really showed the effectiveness of my Gun Line, although I do think my opponent must of made some mistakes along the way.
Gronir and his warriors strode through the dead and wounded men, a slight movement on the ground caught Gronir's eye, a man, arrow in his chest, was crawling away from him. Gronir slammed him underneath his boot, pinning him to the floor. Gronir kicked the man over, so he could face him. "We warned you." Said Gronir. His axe came slicing down. Blood spurted into the air.
Nicely written report! Good to see efoort gone into it!
As to your list, seems pretty solid, but the empire made it pretty easy for you, if i were to vote for a "Worse List You Can Make With 685 Points" Award, this would be a winner: way too many characters, extremely poor choice in the core unit (Free company) and too little men on the more elite troops (knights and greatswords).
I really can't see anyone losing against this list, still, just 1 casualty is still pretty nice!
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

The Dutch Legion
Nice written story and congratulations for the massacre!
