Continuing where I left off with a cliffhanger in the first half of the battlereport: http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ple-thing.html
A purple sun ate nearly all my longbeards and the skinks poinsoned the rest. Only the thane remains. How will I survive this battle?
Dwarf turn 2, charging forward
I don't have much of a choice I guess so I declare a series of charges.
My lone thane charges into the mass of skinks who are a little over 3 inch away and unleash a hail of poisoned darts.
The hammerers charge the other skinks, who flee, so the hammerers redirect the charge on the stegadon. That's over 13" away, so unsuprisingly I do not make it.
But thanks to my failed charge I get to move 6" forward though.
The warriors charge the salamanders, who for some reason decide to hold their ground. The miners also show up and reinforce the right flank, so they can get to the kroxigors. On the left flank they would've faced a stegadon, which isn't really what I intend them to face..
My bolt thrower tries it's luck, and manages to shoot the skink priest off the stegadon! A good time to have shut that thing down.
An overview of bussines:
In combat I manage to break the salamanders
And run far enough to be out of the arc of the saurus!
A disappearing act at it's best!
My thane suffers a wound from the stand&shoot, and it became a little dicey in combat when I had to save 2 wounds ( had I rolled a 1, I'd be dead ), but the thane survives and kills a couple of skinks, who outrun him by an inch.
Lizardmen turn 3, counter charging
About now the original lizardmen player had to leave but another lizardmen player graciously stepped in to finish for him. The models would be left in the GW in the back so the original player could pick them up later. He could have tried to do purple sun, but of course if he did not cast irresistibly I would dispell it ( I still had a scroll ), and if he did cast it IF then something nasty might happen with his slann and unit. Also the purple sun could fall short. The lizardmen charge instead the stegadon and saurus with scar veteran into the hammerers.
On the other side the kroxigors charge out of the forest into the bolt thrower.
The slann reforms to face the warriors, and tries purple sun on them, but fate is cruel. The purple sun is cast irresistibly, but misfires and scatters away, 6 inch again. The resulting miscast leaves the slann boggled and confused, turning him into a level 1 mage!
The skinks rally right in front of the thane pursuing them.
The other stegadon sneakishly goes around the back towards the missiletroops and warmachines. O that crafty bugger! The chameleons are ahead of him and threathen the grudge thrower.
A view of how bussiness looks, from my side, and from my opponents side. It looks different.
The chameleons shoot 3 crewmembers. How happy I am with having an engineer.
In combat a couple of good rolls see the stegadon inflicting untold damage, doing 7 impact hits, hitting all 3 his attacks and 5 hits from thunderstomp! The saurus, luckily, are marginal at best and even the scar veteran flukes his rolls. In response I kill 6 saurus, and my lord ( with a bit of luck and some bad armoursaving rolls on his part ) barely manages to kill the scar veteran ( I hit him only twice, and wounded him twice. Had he passed 1 save, the scar veteran would've lived. I obviously lose, but thank Grungni for stubborn. I also notice that I was steadfast anyway. I try a reform after combat ( on ld10, shouldn't be hard ) and put my lord on the corner with the stegadon, to block it's attacks.
On the far right the kroxigors ravage the bolt thrower, and overrun into the flank of the quarrelers. Have no fear however!
Dwarf turn 3, let's get that toad!
The final turn we could finish before it was time to clear out. So far it has been rather challenging ( yay! ).
My miners rearcharge the kroxigors ( never have I been more glad to do that )
I also seize the chance to take down the slann and charge my warriors in. With some decent rolls I can at least get the templeguard.
The thane takes vengeance... I guess? He charges 8 + 3 inch, and the skinks flee 10 inch. With only an inch between them at the start, the skinks are overrun.
The thunderers fire at the chameleons, and manage to kill 2. This seems too much for the chameleons who decide it's time to bugger out and flee off the table.
The kroxigors, after getting into the flank of the quarrelers, are caught by the miners from behind ( errhhm... ). They manage to slay 3 quarrelers but suffer 4 wounds from the miners and 2 from the prospectors steamdrill. A staggering savingroll follows, and 3 6's are rolled so only 1 kroxigors is slain. Regardless, the static combat resolution of the miners overwhelms them and they flee the scene, running suprisingly far while the quarrelers and miners fail to catch up.
The warriors fail.. badly.. The warriors and runesmith don't even wound anything and the templeguard kill 4 warriors. The BSB manages to make a bunch of kills though and the warriors narrowly win the combat, but the slann passes the breaktest without problems. A good thing that I'm getting a box of warriors next week to build great weapon warriors out of.
The dwarf lord proves his worth ( I told you guys that a tank dwarf lord is the best way to run them ) 'king walling' the stegadon. The stegadon fails to cause any wounds this round, although the saurus do better, and the hammerers hardly seem to bother. The dwarfs narrowly win the round, but the saurus and stegadon hold, as expected.
And then time was up, the battle appeared to be very closely fought, although I am certain that had we continued I could've killed the saurus and templeguard by next round. At the end it seemed that the lizardmen had won the battle with a small margin, victory points point to a draw.
Scar veteran ( 140 pts )
2 Salamanders ( 150 pts )
12 skinks with skink brave ( 90 pts )
6 chameleons with stalker ( 78 pts )
Total: 458 pts
20 longbeards, shields, full command, runes of determination and battle ( 310 pts )
Organ gun ( 120 pts )
Bolt thrower with engineer with brace of pistols ( 65 pts )
A really close battle, and too bad we could not finish it, so I hope to get a new match in the following week(s) And also I hope the face the ogre revised list, which seems a lot tougher.
I hope you enjoyed. Comments, critique and queries appreciated.
Seriously, I love the cometary, makes me laugh every time.
Now how does that old saying go? "All is fair in love and war?"
So since this is war, mind you we will call it "mini-war", it seems fair to me to bring a cannon. I mean what is fantasy without cannons!
Is that a decision you regret, outside of the relm of casual play? It doesn't seem like the Grunge thrower did you much good.
On a side note, that is one tough thane!
I'm a little fuzzy on the victory point rules but wouldn't you have claimed the kroxigors too since they were fleeing at the end of the battle??
I love that thane I could've taken him out for the grudgethrower ( funny enough, my cannon, runesmith, thane and grudgethrower all cost the same. I can put 3 of the aformentioned in, and swap one of those with the 4th whenever I want ) but he's pretty amazing. He has 4 str5 attacks at +1 to hit, usually that's wounding and hitting on 2's. He didn't get his points back, but he did give me just enough Vp to get a draw at this point.
