Battle Report 2000 pts High Elves vs Dwarf and Kislev Allied Contingent
I was the High Elves.
Helglen, the Archmage of Saphrey, was enjoying his eleven tea in the comforts of his home. As he relaxed there was a knock on his door. An eleven envoy entered his room and explained that a Dwarf and Human allied force was crossing the blessed plain of Sora. Helglen, angered by this news exclaimed, “Send a messenger to inform them they were supposed to go around as per the previous agreement. Helglen, knew that it was much quicker for the Dwarfs and Human to cross Sora then go around the High Elf Glade, but usually a messenger was sent to ask permission. The Envoy left immediately and a messenger was dispatched.
The Dwarf general, Argrim watched as his Dwarfs and Kislev Allies marched, knowing soon they would be through the Elven realms and slaying chaos. They had been marching for quite some time and when they came upon the Glade of Sora he decided it was the perfect place to rest. He told his Runesmith Geddred, and the Kislev leader Willem to set up camp...
In the middle of the night Argrim was awoken, by the messenger from the elves. He told them “They must leave this ground immediately and be sure to clean up all of their mess. For if they did not they would be removed. Signed Helglen Archmage of Saphrey. The Dwarf was tired and hit the Ale a little too much. He looked around and saw a huge mess they had made during his armies rest period. He had been a veteran of the War of Beards and hated being told what to do by the Elves. He told the messenger they would not leave and that this was a message to give to his Leader. He then punched the messenger and knocked him out. When he awoke the messenger was tied on his horse with his arms bound to the reigns. His hair was colored blue and red and he stank of beer and horse dung. Argrim told him to give this message to Helglen and handed him a paper. The messenger rode back to the elves hold and Helglen helped him off the horse. He opened the note and it read just one word “NUTS…
As dawn broke over the camp, a double sentry was posted and Ungol horsement were sent to scout near the encampment. Argrim was expecting trouble from the elven garrison. There was no elves to be found. Chalking it off to the fey race’s cowardliness, Argrim directed his battle group to finished breaking camp, while the humans readied their horses to ride. They then resumed their march northward.
By Midday the force reached the edge of Sora. The Dwarfs were marching in block formation along a shallow creek on their right, while the Kislevian Cavalry and horse archers spread out along their left flank in grassy fields. Two bolt throwers lumbered along between the two groups, drawn by their stout crew, while human Kossars traded battle stories with them, marching nearbye.
Suddenly an Ungol Horsement rode up from his position at the vanguard. “Sir, the Elves have fortified a battle tower and hill just ahead, and are preparing to engage us as we attempt to leave their realm!
“So our little slumber party is worth their spending their flimsy lives over, Muttered Argrim, annoyed more then anything that his expedition to destroy marauding Chaos bands would be put on hold. “They could have dined with us, even elves, as we all share a common enemy in Chaos, but instead, in typical fashion, they send a mealy mouthed complainer to hurl insults and reckless threats at this magnificent fighting force. Bah, we’ll have NONE of it! Ride back to your officer and tell him to form up for battle! To his own units he said, “We will punch through their little outpost’s scout line like a hot knife through butter, and then onward to our task!
*** *** ***
At the top of watch tower of Feydrok, The Repeater Bolt Thrower was unlimbered and in positioned. From here it had a commanding view of the entire field below. Nesra, Helglen's Great Eagle friend, whom he had nursed back to health when he was wounded by Skaven poison some years back, from his pearch atop the tower silently indicated with a twitch of his head that he had spotted the Dwarf and Human force advance from the South East along the Ghratese River. He hardly needed the beautiful creature’s confirmation of the advance….his scouts had been tracking their movements for hours.
“Dishoner my emmisary and defile our sacred realms, and escape with your lives? I think not. Thought the elven Archmage. “This is not some weakly manned far outpost of the realm as you obviously believe. This is the fabled Saphrey Legion, and we too have come to hunt Chaos, although our purpose is now turned to your greater offense in our midst, though we want not for it.
To his right, below his position within the tower, his archers were forming up on the hill, stringing their bows calmly. On his left, the forces of his legion gathered: Chariots, Spearmen, a host of Sliverhelms and his pride, the Swordmasters, awaiting his position at the front of the line. “Let it be known that NONE may enter our sacred groves with such callous disregard and escape without our exacting retribution upon their brows! He exclaimed, and a cheer went up as he descended the tower to his battle line….

The battle field had a large hill with a look out tower on the left side of the elf deployment zone. While, a Monolith was on the north east side in the dwarf deployment zone.
The Dwarfs & Kislev units deployed:
On the Left side of battle field:
Warriors with Great Weapon and Slayers with Warriors (Team A) and Warriors lead by Argrim with Geddred between both units in front of them. Next to them Bolt Thrower, Boyars, Winged lancers and Bolt Thrower(Dead Shot) to the right of the Monolith. On the left side of the Monolith the Willem and the Gryphon Legion and finally the Ungol Horse Archers.
The Elves Deployed:
On the Hill Fesren and the Archers deployed in two ranks, then a chariot between the hill and the tower. A Bolt Thrower on top of the tower, then Helglen and the Spear Elves with Nesra behind them. Next to them another chariot across from the Monolith, then the Etheran and the Swordmasters and finally Cantrel and the Silver Helms to the left of the Monolith across from the Ungols and Willem’s Gryphon Legion.
Battle in High Elf Generals Perspective:
Dwarfs and Kislev Turn 1:
Willem wheels his Gryphon Legion toward the far edge of the battlefield and then wheels to have them face the Elves and are now on the right flank of the Silverhelms. The Ungols move to the inside of Willem’s units as the two units exchanged positions. The Winged Lancers ride forward and are now on the left side of the Monolith leaving room for Deadeye to target the elven chariots. On the Left side of the battlefield Argrim, gives the rest of the Dwarf units, orders to wheel towards the center of the battlefield and move forward, but not to block the Bolt Throwers line of sight.
The Bolth Thrower Deadeye lines up a shot on the Elven chariot directly across the battlefield and fires. The Bolt seems to be guided by an unforeseen force and it hits the chariot exploding on impact with such force the chariots wheels fly off in both directions and the chariot falls to pieces having the crew drug by the horses off the battlefield. The other bolt Thrower targets the chariot near the tower and fires the bolt strikes the chariot, but only does minor damage. The Horse archers fire their arrows at the swordmasters, and one swordmaster is killed.
High Elves Turn 1:
The Chariot by the tower moves forward hoping to avoid more bolt Thrower shots. Helglen moves his Spearelven unit forward towards the Winged Lancers. Etheran and Cantrel move their unit the Swordmaster and Silver Helms forward also all staying out of charge range except for the Ungol Horse Archers. Nesra flies through the air and lands between the Winged Lancers and the Monolith putting Dead eye in it charge range and now very close to both Horse Archers and Lancers stopping their march moves.
Magic: Helglen senses the his magic is being weakened by the dwarf Geddren but he is not in range and points his ring of Corin (Vauls Unmaking) at the Winged Lancer, and a light shines on the unit, but no magic items are present to be unmade. Helglen attempts to cast Flames of Phoenix on Argrims unit but fails and finally, attempts to cast curse of arrow attraction on the Wing Lancers and fails that also. Helglen, thinks to himself the Dwarfs have a good magic defense, but I must find a way to weaken it.
Shooting: The Reapeater Bolt thrower fires six bolts at the Winged Lancers, but all of them miss their mark. Finally, Fesron and the Reaver bow fire at the dwarfs warriors approaching and kill one of them.
Dwarfs and Kislev Allies turn 2:
Movement: Willem moves his Gryphon Legion forward slightly and wheels them to face the Cantrel and the Silverhelms. The Horse Archer are leary of the Great Eagle Nesra and move cautiously in front of the
Etheran’s Swordmasters and Cantrel’s Silverhelm’s daring them to charge. The Winged Lancers Move forward and next to the Horse Archers. The Boyars move forward and notch their arrows. Argrim and the rest of the Dwarf forces continue to move forward towards angled to the center of the Battlefield. Geddren joins the warriors unit on the far side of the battlefield and marches them towards the archers.
Shooting: Deadeye’s crew wants to target the Great Eagle that is bound to charge them, but knows the Dwarf strategy is to take down the Chariot and so fires at the remaining chariot with as does the other bolt thrower, but both miss. The Boyars also target the chariot, but none of the arrows hurt it. The Horse Archers target the Swordmaster and fire two bolt hit the elves, but fail to penetrate their armour.
High Elves Turn 2:
Charges: Nesra Charges the Bolt Thrower Deadeye, it’s crew bravely stand in front to protect it. Helglen signals the chariot and both his unit of Spearelves and the chariot charge the Winged Lancers, who turn and run back towards their line outdistancing both Elven Units. Etheran and the Swordmasters charge the left side of the Ungol Archers who flee hoping now the Swordmasters will be in charge range of Willem’s Gryphon Legion unit.
Magic: Helglen aims the Ring of Corin at the Bolt Thrower Deadeye, but the Geddren is able to dispel the ring power for now. Helglen, then casts Flames of the Phoenix on the Dwarf warriors with Argrim, Geddren underestimates the power Helglen has and the spell is not stopped. With horror he watch as Argrims unit bursts into flames and 5 brave dwarfs meet their fate. Argrim is even on fire, but his Gromril protected him. But the stout dwarfs show resolve and do not run. Geddren awaits Helglen next spell, but none comes. Geddren realizes with horror that the flames have not gone out and Helglen is concentrating on keeping them burning.
Shooting: The Bolt Thrower targets the Ungol archers and fires a volley, but misses completely. The 2 Elven warriors riding in the Chariot fire their bows at the Boyars and two Boyars is killed. Fesron fires his Reaver bow at the Dwarf unit still on fire and 2 more dwarfs are killed.
In Close Combat, Nesra ripped one dwarf into two pieces, but the remaining 2 dwarfs are able to cause a wound on Nesra. The dwarfs are undaunted and continue to protect their machine.
Dwarfs and Kislev Allies Turn 3:
With the Winged Lancers in full retreat the Boyars panic and run backward almost off the battlefield.
Willem thought about attempting a charge on the Swordmasters flank, but knew if he failed his flank would be exposed to a charge by the Silverhelms. So the waiting game would continue. Willem also realized in his party last night someone had put Barding on his horse this would slow down the rest of his Lancers. He understood it was a joke, but would have words with his men after the battle.
Both the Winged Lancers and the Ungol Horse archers are able to rally. The lancers turn around to face the elf line. While the horse archers move to the left of the Monolith and dare the Silver Helms to charge.
Willem moves his Gryphon Unit backward slightly and angles then to cover the flank of the Ungol Horse Archers.
Argrim has a dwarfen warrior push him out of the unit so he will not be hit by the flames anymore and he joins the unit of warriors with great weapon but is not in the front rank. The Rest of the Dwarfs move forward towards the Hill with the Elven archers. The slayers move towards the center of the battlefield now almost on the flank of elven chariot.
Magic: Geddred tries using all of his power to dispel the flames, but fails.
Shooting: The bolt thrower not in combat targets the remaining chariot and fires the bolt strike the chariot and breaks it apart destroying it.
Close Combat: Nesra the Great Eagle rips another Dwarf crewmen apart and this time takes no wounds in return. The remaining dwarf tries to flee to safety, but is easily caught in Nesra’s Talons then lifted in the air and thrown to the ground broken.
High Elves Turn 3:
Nesra swoops back around and lands in front of the Winged Lancers daring them to charge. The Etheran’s Swordmaster move forward using the Monolith to cover their flank and wheel to prepare for a possible failed charge by the Lancers. Cantrel wheels his Silverhelms left and then moves forward staying out of the charge range of Willem’s Gryphon Legion. The Archers on the hill move slightly to the right putting some distance between the Dwarf Runesmith and his unit of warriors. Fesron moves out of the unit and off the hill to avoid the feared Bolt Thrower of the dwarfs.
Magic: Unable to stop the Flames from last turn the Dwarf Runesmith Geddren looked on as Helglen continue to concentrate on his spell. The flames grew higher and this time 5 more warriors fell to the ground burned to death, but still the stout dwarfs held their ground and kept coming. Helglen, then used his ring of Corin on the Slayers fast approaching, but one again they had no magic runes to unmake. Helglen, then casted the Fury of Khaine on the Winged Lancers, but it was dispelled by the Geddren, and now since concentration was broken the flames on the Warrior unit died out. Helglen, then began to concentrate and flames erupted around the slayers, but Geddren was able to dispel it.
Shooting: The Repeater Bolt thrower crewwas so enamored by the beauty of the Sora Glade, that once again when his volley fired at the Winged Lancers it failed to hit its mark. Fesren fired his reaver bow at the now depleted unit of Dwarfs and 2 more fall taking the unit below half it’s original strength. The archers on the hill open fire at the slayers, but their arrows fail to penetrate the slayers thick skins.
Dwarfs and Kislev allies Turn 4:
The Boyars fail to rally and try to flee the battle field, but just remain on it.
Movement: The Ungor Archers move back and reform behind the Monolith putting Nesra in their sights. Willem leaves his unit realizing that he is slowing them down and move to the flank of the Silver Helms while his unit wheels and gets to the flank of the silverhelms keeping Willem behind. The Winged Lancers shift to the left hopping to put the Swordmasters our of charge range. The now small unit of dwarfs and Slayers move on the flank of Helglen and the Spearelves. The other two units of Dwarfs move towards the hill and the unit of Archers.
Shooting: The Bolt Thrower lines up a shot on the Silver Helms flank, but the bolt sails wide. The Horse archers unleash a hail of arrows at Nesra and she it knocked from the air and killed.
High Elf Turn 4:
Etheran gives the command for his Swordmaster to charge the Winged Lancers. The Lancers thought they had moved out of range and so choose to hold, but are just inside the charge range of the Swordmasters and Etheran.
Cantrel and the Silver Helms realize that the Gryphon Legion has move to close to the Silver Helms and with that Cantrel commands the Silverhelms to charge the Horse Archers, who turn and run off the table. The Silverhelms fail the charge, but are now out of the charge arc of the Gryphon Legion and Willem. Fesron Moves into the Rocks on the side of the hill, while the archer unit moves back on the hill slightly.
Magic: Helglen, uses his Ring of Corin Gryphon Legion, Geddren is saving his power for future spells and the Glowing Standard being held by the Gryphon Legion stops glowing after being unmade by the spell. Helglen, that cast fury of Khaine on the remaining Bolt Thrower, but Geddren is up to the task and dispels it. Lastly, Helglen concentrates then looks at the Slayers approaching and cast Flames of the phoenix with ultimate force, and the flames erupt around the slayers Killing 6 of them and even their champion is killed. Helglen, continues to concentrate and keep the spell going.
Shooting: Fesren yells to the Bolt Thrower we must weaken the Dwarfs preparing to charge the archers. The Bolt Thrower spins around and fires a single bolt impaling 3 dwarfs. Fesren then targets his reaver bow at the the same unit and 2 more dwarfs fall. Lastly, the archers on the hill fire and kill one more Dwarf. But with the leadership of Geddren the dwarf unit of warriors stands stout.
Close Combat: A challenge is declared by the Swordmaster champion and accepted by the Winged Lancer Champion. The Swordmaster hits twice, but amazingly the armour of the Lancer hold and takes no damage in return the Lancer champion slays the Swordmaster champion. Etheran is enraged by the loss of the champion and strikes with his sword of might slaying 3 Lancers himself. With only one more Swordmaster falling in the battle. The Lancers Break and flee, but are pursued and scattered by the Swordmasters and Etheran in the overrun.
Dwarf and Kislev allies Turn 5:
Geddren and his remaining unit of warrior charge the archers on the hill. Arrow rain down on them, but none penetrate the dwarfs armour.
Boyars Rally and face towards the Swordmasters forming into 2 ranks. Urged by Willem the Gryphon Legion move to the rear of the Silverhelms as Willem moves to their flank and both prepare to charge. The Slayers still on fire from flames of the Phoenix close on the flank of Helglen and the Spearelves. Chanting the one concentrating must be killed he is the evil behind this magic. Argrim now leading the Warriors with Great Weapon move to cover the flank of Geddren warrior unit. The small Dwarf with hand weapons unit turns and moves to gain table control.
Magic: Once again Geddren tries to stop the Flames of the Phoenix, but is not able to Geddren curses at himself for the dwarf lives that will probably perish due to his failure.
Shooting: The dwarf Bolt Thrower crew target Helglen and his Spearelves, but fails to hit.
Close Combat: Geddren swings his greatsword and kills two elven archers while his warrior kill two more. The Archers fail to kill any elves, break and run off the battlefield. Geddren follows but doesn’t catch them.
High Elves Turn 5:
Helglen orders his spearmen to reform and face the slayers. Cantrel orders his Silverhelms to reform and face the Gryphon Legion and Willem. While Etheran wheels and moves his swordmasters almost, face to face with the Boyars.
Magic: The Flames of the Phoenix burn even more brightly and 6 Slayers drop dead. Helglen, chuckles I told them they didn’t know who they were dealing with now they will pay. Helgen, use ring of Corin on Willem, but Geddren dispels it. Helglen, then casts curse of arrow attraction on the Gryphon legion. Geddren fails to stop it. Lastly, Helglen cast Flames of the Phoenix on the Boyars Geddren once again fails to stop it and 5 Boyars burn to death and 1 of them the champion. But the Boyars do not flee instead they Pull their great axes and prepare to charge.
Shooting: The Repeater bolt Thrower fires a single bolt at the Gryphon legion the bolt seems to be off target, but then suddenly the Gryphon legion begins to glow and the bolt homes in on the glow and impales one of the legion into the ground. Fesron fires at the Slayers with his reaver bow and kills two more.
Dwarfs and Kislev allies Turn 6:
The boyars charge the Swordmasters and Etheran and the Slayers remaining charge Helglen and the Spearelves. Lastly, both Willem and the Gryphon Knights charge the Silverhelms.
Geddred and his warriors along with Argrim and his warriors with great weapon turn towards the tower. The small dwarf with hand weapons continue to move to take table control and now if the Swordmasters fail to break the boyars or don’t over run they will control that table quarter.
Magic: Geddred Fails to Dispel the Flames of Phoenix on the Boyars.
Shooting: The remaining Bolt Thrower targets the elven bolt thrower on the tower and misses.
Close Combat: Boyars attack the Swordmaster and decide to direct attacks at the unit. 3 Swordmasters are killed by Boyar Axes, but Etheran kills 2 Boyars himself in return. The Boyars that are left break and run, but are pursued and finished off by the Swordmasters. The few slayers left decide to attack the unit of spearelves, but the spearelves block most of the slayer attack and only two fall. In return the spearelves kill 4 slayers leaving on one remaining. Willem challenges and it is accepted by the Silverhelms champion. Willem strikes fast and slays the Silverhelm champion. 2 of the Gryphon Legion on of them the champion, direct their attack at Cantrel, but Cantrel is and expert fighter and only two of their attacks hit, and both fail to wound. In return, Cantrel kills of the Gryphon Legion. The rest of the Legion fail to kill any Silverhelms. The Silverhelms strike back and kill 1 more Gryphon Legion Knight. It’s to much for the Gryphon legion knights and they break and run, but Willem toughens his resolve and continues to battle.
High Elf Turn 6:
Cantrel moves among his silver helms to engage Willem. Etheran and the Swordmaster move to cancel the table control bonus.
Magic: Helglen uses his Ring of Corin, on Willem, but Geddred dispels it. Helglen then cast flames of the Phoneix on the remaining Bolt Thrower crew, but Geddren dispels that also.
Shooting: The high elf bolt thrower fires a volley at the Dwarfen Bolt Throwers and hits one crew member, but fails to wound. Fesren also targets the Bolt Thrower and fails to wound the crew.
Close Combat: The Spearelves strike out with their spear and impales the last slayers destroying his unit. Cantrel Strike at Willem and hits twice, but both hit are turned aside, by Willem armour. Willem strikes back and hits once, but fails to penetrate Cantrels armour.
With That Helglen orders his army to halt, and let what remains of the uncouth Dwarfs and Human retreat from the battlefield. Helglen, Yells next time mind your manners." Then Chuckled Loudly,
High Elves: 1120
A solid victory for the High Elves.

Thanks we had a great time with it. I was a little worried taking on the Allies Contingent. But since he had little experience with Knights he made some key mistakes and that allowed me to get the victory.
Gee, I seriously have no idea where the other 40 dwarfs were in that battle. This guy seems to be a classic failure because apparently from what I can observe he sent 75% of his dwarfs slogging it across the battlefield to kill some archers. Good gravy, thats the most ridiculous thing I've EVER heard of. Who is this guy, I want to meet him, shake his hand, and then slap him lol. Its absolutely absurd. Considering a 20 strong unit of warriors could easily and I mean easily hold back a unit of silverhelms. I mean lets face it, silverhelms are the single ply toilet paper of cavalry. You can tear through them with little effort and wipe your @$$ with them. Congratulations on your win though.
Either way you do the math, it all adds up to you goin' down
Nice army building on the Kislev army: Putting a barded steed in a unit of Kislev cavalry is ingenious.
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
Well what do you know... a dwarf player coming in and getting upset that a DWARF LOST *gasp*. If a dwarf player loses he MUST be terrible.
That was a very good battle report. The fluff was top notch and you and you friend seem to be very experienced players.
"...a swarm of mechanised locusts sweeping over the land, stripping it bare of resources, bringing death and destruction to anything that stands in its path. Emperor preserve us against the predations of these so-called Orkish cults of speed!" - Cardinal Nomura at the Conclave of Hessen
He gave a good reason as to why he is/was terrible.Originally posted by Bruiser117@Mar 22 2005, 120

Solid victory, nice work.
Thats awesome fluff and a nice solid victory
Yeah, that was a kick-ass battle report. Seems like those Swordmasters were on fire (haha), they ran over quite a lot, or was that just me being partial for the high elves? Nice win, anyhow.
