Following the elves defeat at the hands of the Orcs and Dark Elves, the Lord Te-ador Prince of High Elves assembles another force to pursue the Dark Elves once they emerge from the Goblin lands. The Elves find out that the Dark Elves intend to cut across the foothills of the Dwarven Realms. Already smarting from the Dwarf / Kislev incursions a few month’s past which was repelled, and intent on pursuing their enemy, the Elves enter Dwarven realms to follow. The Dark Elves, seeing a chance to cause trouble for their pursuers, set large bonfiles, the smoke from which it detected by both the Dwarven outposts and Elven pursuers alike. The Elves reason that they can finish the work at hand and obliterate the deleted battle-weary Dark Elf force long before the Dwarves arrive. The hastily march onward, reaching the fires a few hours later, only to find the Dark Elves have already departed, on a forced overnight march in determined retreat. The Elves, exhausted and by now deep within Dwarven territory, must camp for the night. On the morn, a force of dwarves is heard marching and chanting, coming down from the Mountain land. The Dwarf general sees the Elven camp from on far. The Elf Lord knows parley is futile, as the Dwarves are quick to judge and slow to refine that judgement when their lands are invaded, particularly with such a spectacle of bonfires. The Dwarfs upon seeing the elven force assume this is in retribution for the Dwarven / Kislev incursion month before. The combination of the memory of that battle loss, plus the outrage at the Elves trespassing for “no reason (they are unaware of the Dark elf presence), can mean only one thing: Battle.

A small woods in the north west corner of the battle. With a Dwarven tower in the South West Corner. Finally, a Large Hill on the South Eastern Corner of the battlefield.
Dwarf Deployment: The Dwarfs deployed on the North edge of the battlefield.
From Left to Right Bolt Thrower Grey behind the trees with a perfect angle on the middle of the battle field. Next to them Grondek “the Hard Headed and the Iron Breakers. With a Unit of Thunderers on their flank. Then the Goblin Hewer flanked by another unit of Thunderers and then the Daloki “Foe Reaver and Hroki Gromrunki with the Hammerers with the unit of warriors behind them. Then the Slayers and Bolt Thrower Black behind them an on their flank.
High Elf Deployment: The High Elves deployed on the South edge of the battlefield.
From left to Right: Etheran and the Reaver Unit with a Chariot on one side of the tower, and protected by the woods from Bolt Thrower Grey. In the Tower the Repeater Bolt Thrower, Then next to the tower a unit of Silver Helms. Flanked by Te-Ador and Phoenix Guard then Telerin and the Spearelves. Next the Second Chariot and other unit of silver helms in front of the hill. Lastly, the Archers in 2 ranks on the hill.
Intrigue at the Court:
The High Elves decided that Te-ador would lead them this in the battle. (Yea)
Dwarf Turn 1:
Movement: Grondek moved his Iron breakers slightly forward and angled to their right flank. The Thunderers next to them also moved forward slightly. The Slayers and Hammerers moved forward their full movement.
Shooting: Malakai and the Slayer Crew pointed the Goblin Hewer at the Phoenix Warriors and Te-ador. And fired a volley, The machine was deadly accurate hitting 14 Phoenix Warriors and Killing 11. Only the strong leadership of Te-ador kept them from fleeing. Bolt Thrower Black crew activated a magic rune to increase it’s accuracy and fired at the Chariot near the Hill. The bolt struck the chariot and destroyed it in a single blow. (Strength 7). Bolt Thrower Grey opened fire on the Silverhelms, but the bolt sailed wide missing. Both Thunderer units opened fire one at the Phoenix Guard killing 3 more and one at the Silver helms on the south east side of the battlefield in front of the hill killing one brave knight.
High Elf Turn 1:
Movement: Te-ador was surprised by the killing power of the strange axe throwing contraption. And ordered the Silver Helms next to his unit to ride in front of the foot troops, hoping their armour would protect them and keep the foot troops from being abliterated. The Silver Helms rode in front and behind them Te-ador’s Phoenix Guards who angled slightly to prepare a charge on the Ironbreakers and Telerin’s Spear Elves followed close behind. Etheran moved his Reavers up to the trees and wheel to prepare a charge on the Iron breakers. The Chariot crew followed the reavers and turned to charge also. On the other side of the battlefield the Silver Helms in front of the hill moved forward towards the Hammerers and Slayers, but staying out of their charge range.
Magic: Telerin attempted to cast Flames of the Phoenix, but the Dwarf Rune Smith Hroki dispelled his attempt. Telerin then attempted to cast Curse of Arrow Attraction at the Thunderers on the flank of the Ironbreakers, but failed.
Shooting: The Repeater Bolt Thrower opened fire on the Thunderers protecting the Iron Breakers Flank, the volley killed 3 of them but their stout resolve kept them from panicking. The Reavers and chariot crew fired arrows into the Ironbreakers, but their Gromril armour protect all of them but one. Lastly, the Archers fired on the advancing Slayers, and killed 3 of them.
Dwarf Turn 2:
Movement: Seeing the bulk of the Elven force move up the center of the battlefield Daloki left his unit of Hammerer and joined the unit of Thunderers next to him. Hroki moved his Hammers and Slayers forward angling each so if one was charged the other could counter charge and still leaving room for his Bolt Thrower black to see the Silver Helms. Daloki yelled at the Small Unit of Dwarf warriors commanded them to turn and move behind the Thunderers and they followed his command.
Shooting: Malakai saw the desperate attempt by the Elven commanded to protect his units from the new Dwarfen machine. He bellowed a laugh and targeted the Silver Helms, The spinning axes killed 2 Knights. Bolt Thrower Grey then noticed by moving to protect his the units on foot the Silver Helms had given their side profile and fired a bolt Impaling 2 more Knights leaving only the champion remaining. The Thunders on the flank of the Ironbreakers opened fired and killed the remaining Knight. Te-ador leadership kept the Elves nearby from fleeing. The other unit of Thunderers opened file at Te-adors Phoenix Guard killing 7 more leaving only Te-ador and the Phoenix Guard champion. Bolt Thrower Black fired a single bolt at the unit of Silver Helms in front Hammerers and Slayers, but missed.
High Elf Turn 2:
Charges: Te-ador knew his army could not stand up to this incredible shooting display by the Dwarfs. Knowing his best chance was to get into combat quickly. He signaled a charge, and both he and the Phoenix Guard champion charged into the flank of the Ironbreakers, Simultaneously, Etheran and the Reavers as well as the Chariot charged the front of the Ironbreakers.
Movement: Telerin moved his Spearelf unit towards the Goblin Hewer. The Silver Helm unit moved backwards daring the both the Hammers and Slayers to move forward.
Magic: Telerin attempted to cast Flames of the Phoenix on the Hammers, but miscast. And suddenly could no longer remember the words needed for Curse of Arrow Attraction.
Shooting: The Repeater Bolt Thrower fired another volley at the Thunders on the flank of Te-ador and the Phoenix Guard Champion knowing they will almost certainly charged them next turn. But only one Dwarf is killed. Finally, The archers on the hill open fire the Slayers and 2 more are killed.
The High Elf chariot crew impacted against the Dwarf Ironbreakers, but the Dwarfs were prepared and deflect the chariots energy away from them with their shields (I rolled a 1 for Impact hits and failed to kill any dwarfs). Te-ador issued a challenge and Grondek accepted. Te-adors Blade of Sea Gold sliced through Grondek’s Gromril armour and chopped the poor Dwarf in 2 pieces. The Chariot crew and horses could not penetrate the Gromril armour of the Ironbreakers and even Etheran and the Reavers were unable to kill any Dwarfs. In return the Ironbbreakers, killed two Reavers. The Ironbreakers held and the elves had lost. Te-ador yelled encougement but , The chariot crew stayed to continue the fight, but Etheran and the Reavers ran away. The Stubborn Te-ador and Phoenix Guard Champion also remained.
Dwarf Turn 3:
Charges: The Thunderers protecting the flank of the Ironbreakers charged Te-ador and the Phoenix Guard Champion.
Movement: The other unit of Thunders wheel to the right and move forward prepare to fire on the Spearelves and Telerin. The Hammerers and Slayers moved forward menacingly close to the Silver Helms. The Warriors with Great Weapons move behind the Thunderers.
Shooting: Malakai saw a new target for his Goblin Hewer. Telerin and the Spear Elves had moved dangerously close. He fires the machine and a volley of axes ripped into the Spear Elves. Killing 10 of them. The Thunderers that wheeled opened fire on the same unit and 5 move Spear Elves were killed leaving only 5 plus Telerin.
Close Combat: The Thunders that charged the Phoenix Guard and Te-ador attack the lone champion. But the Keeper of the Flame was able to dodge their attack and then kill one in return. Te-ador issued a challenge, but the cowardly dwarf champion refused and retreated behind his unit. Te-ador took his anger out on the unit and slayed two Ironbreakers himself. The Elven chariot crew and horses were able to inflict another wound. Only the dwarfs facing the chariot attacked back and were not able to wound it. This time the Dwarf had lost the combat, but stoutly held their ground.
High Elves Turn 3:
Rally: Etheran and the fleeing Reavers rallied and turned to face the Ironbreakers once again.
Charges: The 4 Silver Helms remaining had successfully baited the Dwarfs into moving close to them. Suddenly they wheeled and charged into the Thunderers that had wheeled to face the Spear Elves, hitting them in their left flank. Telerin had two possible charged the dreaded goblin hewer or the Thunderer and the Dwarf Champion. When he saw what the Silver Helms did he decided to try and assist them. He ordered his unit to charge the Thunderers and on the charge the Thunderers opened fire. When Telerin reached the Thunderers he saw only himself remaining, and charged into the middle of the Thunderers away from Daloki, hoping the unit would break and he wouldn’t have to face him.
Moves: Te-ador switched places with the Keeper of the Flame now he could attack either the Ironbreakers or Thunderers.
Magic: Knowing that he must keep the Silver Helms from being charged in the rear. Telerin successfully cast the Flames of the Phoenix on the Hammerers with Ultimate Force, 2 of the Dwarfs fell dead while the rest continued to burn.
Shooting: The Repeater Bolt Thrower and Archers both fired at the Slayers and 4 more slayers went down.
Close Combat: The Silver Helms charged into the flanks of the Thunderers Impaling one on their Lances, while their horses trampled another. Telerin attacked and killed one of the Thunderers also. 2 Thunders attacked Telerin, but the Elf wizard was able to parry both attacks. The Thunderers had been beaten, but with their General nearby they toughened their resolve and continued to fight on. 2 Silver Helms not involved in combat lapped around. On the other side, Te-ador attacked the Thunders and slew both of the two he was fighting. The Keeper of the flames and the chariot failed to kill any more Ironbreakers. In return the Dwarfs were able to wound the Chariot and win the combat due to ranks and outnumbering. The Chariot fled the battle, but Stubborn Te-ador and the Keeper of the flame continued to hold their ground, hoping for support.
Dwarf Turn 4:
Movement: Daloki pushed his way through the Thunders, moved past the Elven mage Telerin, and engaged the Silver Helm Champion. The unit of Warrior behind the Thunders reformed facing the Silver Helms. Hroki Gromrunki, turned his unit of Hammerer still under the effects of the Flames of Phoenix spell, towards the Silver Helms Rear. The Slayers continue to move forward toward the archers on the hill. Bolt Thrower Grey moved forward slightly out from behind the woods, so they could get a shot on the chariot next turn. The Ironbreaker champion moved back to his front rank.
Shooting: Malakai saw no targets for his wonderful machine because everyone was in combat. Then he saw the High Elf Archers on the Hill and opened fire. 2 Archers fell dead with axes imbedded in them. Bolt Thrower Black also fired at the Archers, but missed.
Close combat: Daloki struck with incredible quickness and hit the Silver Helm Champion 2 times, but both failed to Penetrate his armour. The Champion failed to hit Daloki in return. Both of the other Silver Helms and their horses failed to kill any Thunderers. Telerin was able to slay one Dwarf Warrior and in return one of the Dwarf axes sliced his arm. The Elves lost, but both Telerin and the Silver Helms held their ground. Te-ador, challenged once again, but the Dwarf champion ran behind his unit. Te-ador then slaughtered the remaining 2 Thunders while the Keeper of the Flame was able to kill one Ironbreaker. In return, the Ironbreakers could not wound either Te-ador or the Keeper of the Flame. The Stubborn Te-ador would not budge seeing Etheran and the Reavers were preparing to charge once again.
High Elf Turn 4:
Rally: The fleeing Chariot crew rallied and turned to face the Ironbreakers.
Charges: Etheran knew time was short and was not sure how long Te-ador could hold on. He ordered his unit to charge the Ironbreakers once again. The Reavers lowered their spears and charged.
Movement: Te-ador switched places with the Keeper of the Flame once again, trying to limit the number of attacks on the Keeper of the Flame. The Archers saw the Slayers getting closer and moved backwards to keep the range.
Magic: The Flames of the Phoenix on the Hammers and Hroki erupted once again, but only killed one more Hammerer. Telerin attempted to cast Flames of Phoenix on the Goblin Hewer and crew, but miscast and ended the magic phase.
Shooting: The Repeater Bolt Thrower fired a volley and the Archer also launched arrows 4 more Slayers went down. Now leaving 7 left.
Close Combat: Etheran and the Reavers attacked viciously at the Ironbreakers, but failed to penetrate the Gromril armour. Te-ador, swung his Blade of Sea Gold and killed two more Ironbreakers, while the Keeper of the Flame killed on also. In return, the Ironbreakers killed 2 more Reavers. The Dwarfs had barely wound the combat, but with the Battle Standard and Te-ador nearby the Elves refused to break and the Dwarfs lapped around the flank of Etheran. On the Other side of the battlefield Daloki attacked with blinding speed again and this time the Silver Helm champion was killed. The remaining Silver Helms and Telerin failed to kill and Thunderers, but continued to stay and fight.
Dwarf Turn 5:
Charges: The Dwarf warrior had been given the chance they needed and now charged the Silver Helms fighting the Thunderers and Daloki force the Silverhelms to realign.
Movement: The Hammerers and Hroki closed on the rear of the Silver Helms prepare to charge next turn. While the Slayers moved forward closing on the Archers on the hill.
Shooting: Malakai fired his Hewer at the archers once again, but missed. Bolt Thrower Black also fired at the archers and killed one of them.
Close Combat: Daloki issued a challenge and poor Telerin had to accept. Daloki slashed at Telerin, but failed to hit. Telerin hit and wounded in return, but was not able to pierce the Dwarf armour. The Warriors with Great Weapons were able to kill one Silver Helm. The Silver Helms were able to kill one Thunderer. The Elves had lost again, but miraculously both Telerin and the Silver Helms refused to flee the battle. (needed 5- but passed each) On the other side of the Battlefield, Te-ador slayed two more Ironbreakers. The Keeper of the Flame also killed another, the Reavers and Etheran failed to kill any. In return, the Dwarfs killed another Reaver. The Ironbreakers had lost just barely, but easily held their ground.
High Elf Turn 5:
Charges: The Chariot charged the Ironbreakers.
Movement: The Elven Archers moved backwards once again trying to stay away from the Slayers.
Magic: Telerin attempted to cast the Flames of the Phoenix on Malakai and the Hewer Once again, but miscast ending the magic phase.
Shooting: The Repeater Bolt Thrower fired a volley at the Hammerer killing 2. The Archers fired on the Slayers and 2 more went down.
Close Combat: The Chariot slammed into the Ironbreakers, but once again the Ironbreakers were able to deflect the energy of the charge away (I rolled a 3). Thus failing to kill any Ironbreakers. But the Crew impaled 1 on their spears and a Horse killed another. Te-ador this time failed to kill any, but the Keeper of the flame slayed one with his Halberd. Etheran and ther Reaver were not able to penetrate the Gromril armour of the Ironbreakers and in return the Ironbreaker kill the remaining 2 Reavers. Again the Ironbreakers had just barely been beaten, but easily held their ground.
Dwarf Turn 6:
Charge: Hroki and the Hammerers charge into the rear of the Silver Helms. The Slayers attempt to charge the Archer, but fail. The Archers arrows failed to kill any, however.
Shooting: Malakai fires at the Archers once again this time hits killing 2. But the Elves pass their panic test. Bolt Thrower Black fires also, but misses.
Close Combat: Hroki strikes first and slays one of the Silver Helms the Hammers finish the other. Daloki swings his axe and land the blow in Telerin’s chest, Telerin is knocked to the ground dead. Meanwhile, Te-ador attacks the Ironbreakers and kills 3, While the Keeper of the Flame adds one more. The Chariot and Horse fail to kill any and Etheran kills 2 more. In return the chariot gets wounded twice. The Battle is a draw and will continue.

In return, the Ironbreaker fail to wound. The Ironbreakers lose combat decisively and flee. Only to be chased and destroyed by all 3 elf units.
Night Fall Came and the Battle Ended:
Elves: 870 VP
A Minor Victory for the Dwarfs:
Things I learned - The Goblin Hewer is Devastating!!!!
heh just proves why ironbreakers are so popular they just wont die! lasting 5 turns while flanked
great battle report
spambot kill tally: 79
[16:19] <@Alzer> Arky's right though
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> I know he is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> He usually is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> Sometimes it's intentional.
[00:01] <+zubus> i love you, ya skirt wearin nothern monkey! ^_^
What in the...
Archers, AND Phoenix Guard in the same army? No wonder the elf player lost...
He could have kitted his Prince out much better...
Give a Prince the Vambraces of Defence and the Armour of the Gods and arm him with a Great Weapon or a Halberd. Instant tough-elf.
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
I lost combat 3 times. And without being stubborn I surely would have run. Plus a Stubborn unit that causes fear, can be quite effective.
hey Eagletis, another great battle, I have fought dwarfs loads of times and i can never break them, they are tough as nails to beat...Nautllus is right about the ironbreakers but i have only ever fought them the once
I find that pheniox guard aint as great as swordmasters, like you seen there you lost half of the unit in 1 turn of shooting which is terraible and that goblin hewer thing is devasating and Also you mage was having a very bad day in casting :/.
Anyways good battle keep them coming!, did you any chanch have alook at mines just before these two battle reports?, its not HEs but still. have alook if you want.
The thing is, with Elves, Shooting us is our weakness. Our armour saves just aren't good enough. Even if they were Swordmasters since they both have the same armour save, 11 would have died anyway. Plus I just painted the Phoenix Guard and wanted to use them. One thing about me, is if I spend time painting them I will use them. Anyway glad you liked it. I had a 3 way battle over the weekend, but my notes were not the best. So I'm not sure if I will do a report on it or not. Well see.
