Played The first game with my new Wood Elves today, and heres how it went. Not a very good battle report I know, but you will get the idea (hopefully).
Noble, Wardancer Kindred, Blades Of Loec
16 Glade Guard (GG1)
16 Glade Guard (GG2)
11 Glade Guard (GG3)
10 Wardancers (WD1)
8 Wardancers (WD2)
15 Eternal Guard (ET)
6 Waywatchers (WW)
20 Warriors (W1)
20 Warriors (W2)
12 Thunderers (T)
20 Ironbreakers (I
Bolt Thrower (BT)
Organ Gun (OG)
Dwarf Turn 1
The Dwarfs did their usual shuffling about. Cannon fired at Dryads. 1 Dryad Killed
Elf Turn 1
All forces advance. Archers Walk, all other units charge. I notice my bad placement of units, as my etarnal guard and a unit of GG1 are stuck behind GG3, the layout of the terrain means its unlikely they will be able to move into a better position all battle
WW move from within a forest to behind a ruin, just on the otherside are the thunderers and a bolt thrower.
GG3 open fire and take own 2 Thunderers
GG2 fire a hail or arrows at the cannon, but fail to do any damage.
Dwarf Turn 2
Thunders move into better position, but are out of range. Cannon opens fire and takes outa wardancer from WD2
Elf Turn 2
Again, everything advances. Archers walk, all other units march. WW dive out from behing ruins to be in view of bolt thrower.
5 more Thunders fall from the arrows of GG3
1 Organ Gun crewmen falls from arrows from GG2
1 Bolt Thrower crew dies to the WW
Dwarf Turn 3
The stunties do more shuffling around.
The cannons fires into WD1, killing a wardancer and putting 1 wound onto the noble.
Two further wardancers from WD1 fall to the organ gun.
Elf Turn 3
Eternal Guard and GG! are still stuck behing GG3
3 More thunderers die to GG3's arrows
The WW take down a further BT Crewman
GG2 fire at organ gun, but achieve nothing.
[continued in next post]
Dwarf Turn 4
Cannon fires and misses
4 Glade Guard from GG2 die from the organ gun. GG2 flee into the nearest wood
1 WW is killed by the bolt thrower, the thunders open fire, killing a further WW, the WW fail their panic test and flee off the table
Elf Turn 4
WD2 charge the organ gun crew
WD1 charge the dwarf warriors (W1)
2 Thunders die to GG3's arrows (Thunderes killed off)
WD2 kill the remaning OG crew
WD1 are slaughtered by the dwarfs, Noble killed in a challenge. Unit run down and killed
Dwarf Turn 5
More dwarfs shuffle around a bit
2 Wardancers from WD2 die to a grapeshot from the cannon
Elf Turn 5
WD2 charge the cannon crew
Dryads charge Dwarf W2
6 Ironbrekers are shot down by GG3 (Dam good having Str4 at 1/2 range)
1 Cannon Crewman is killed by WD2, 1 Wardancer is killed in combat
Dryads loose combat, and flee, dwarfs persue but do not catch.
Dwarf Turn 6
Warriors (W2) charge into the side of (WD2)
Warrior (W1) Charge dryads, Dryads flee but are not caught.
3 Wardancers die, and WD2 flee. Warriors do not catch them
Elf Turn 6
GG2 charge into flank of W2
GG3 fire at IB, and kill 3.
GG2 charge is a disaster, they flee and are overrun by the dwarfs.
Dwarfs - 1120 VP
Elves - 390
Dwarves win by 730 VP (Massacre)

Ouch, man a masscare for your first battle, still nothing to worry about, i may not be a WE player but you have to learn that WE units are not any good at taking a unit on there own, you have to use double charges, especially against big block owns like your learned, I did when i used my beastmen herds and they got slapped alot since they have no armour what so ever. I would take perhaps some gald riders or wild riders they seem really good to use and ultra fast. Anyways good luck with your next game m8!.
Yeah, A lot (all bar the Eternal Guard) of my CC troops were really "support" fighters, and coudnt do much on their own. With the ET stuck behind the archers tho I was in trouble from turn 1. 400 Pts of troops effectivly taken out of the game
Still, I was impressed with the glade guard, and want to end up with 3 full blocks of GG for the next game. 30" str3 arrows are nice, but 15" str 4 arrows are even nicer (and still well out of a dwarfs charge range) The WeightWatchers (I mean waywatchers) were nice, although I think i gave them very bad positioning. I was so intent on using their scout rules, but they probably would have served me better if they had been deployed with the rest of the army and made use of the 30" range.
I will also be including 1 or possably 2 units of Glade Riders in the next list, Fast Cav are good in any army, and they would be able to provide good support to the Dryads / Wardancers. They only missed out on this list because I havent built them yet (and I am too scared to use KU's Dragon Princes as proxies)
Still, the main problem in this game IMHO was not the units taken, but my deployment. Looking back I can see all the stupid mistakes I made, but I have noone to blame but myself (and KU's small 4x4 table) Two Units stuck behind a unit of acrchers, 2 units charging up in full view of 3 warmachines, and Waywatchers being set to close to the thunderers. Still, we live and learn
With WE arrowfire, try to concentrate it all on one unit to do maximum damage. Im suprised the WD didn't slaughter the cannon crew...
WE really have to watch out for things that do d6, or artillery dice hits, instead of rolling to hit as usual.
i was surprised that the WE player lost, i thought the Dwarf armylist had serious flaws. For one thing, why would the dwarf player take two warmachines that rely on ranks against mainly skirmashing WE, or WE that have small units, instead of a ST or FC that would have a nice template landing smack dab in the middle of the units
Mr. Burns: Why is everyone being so insolent today?
Smithers: Well sir, it is christmas...
Mr. Burns: I'll decide when its christmas!
Because I knocked up a list in about 5mins flat and never thought about such things, so basically while Knape was setting the board up I was trying to come up with a list. This is probably why I also included a RS dispite knowing that he had no magic at all. The next time I may even think of a better list, but thanks for pointing that out.
Congratulations KU another glorious victory against the trecherous tree-folk.
Sounds like a fun battle, and i wouldn't be too disheartened if i were you Knape, you seem to know exactly where you went wrong, i bet next time the WE's will kick serious arse
PLAN CLAN MAN!!
He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man- S. Johnson
Meh, yeah I lost badly, but 2 hrs of fun was had by all involved I think. Thats the main thing anyway.
Between bad placement of units, unlucks shots against WM Crew, and Adam distracting me by putting of really really **** anime on the TV (Some crap called "one piece" IIRC) I was destined to loose.
However, next time we will get our revenge!!!
