the dwarf army:
the clearers of the under way:
rune of speed
rune of iron
rune of might
rune of furnace
rune of fury
rune of striking
in the batte my dragon slayer had master rune of gromil, but as the guy below pointed out it is illeagel
15xcross bow men
they had (minus the equipment, i do not know that.)
now heres the report:
the cross bow men deployed in single rank so they all could fire covering the main road, to their left where the warriors and the thane, to their right was the dragon slayer. the bolt thrower was on some high grounds on the left flank, it could see most of the battle field, the saurus deployed on the main road, facing the crossbow men, while skink unit 1 (16man, or lizard)deployed in some jungle terrian on the left flank, while skink 2 deployed behind a forest.
TURN 1. DWARVES.
the dragon slayer marched towards the skinks in the jungle terrian, while he walked off searching for death, 15 bolts from the crossbows flew towards the sarus, 7 hitting, 4 wound, 1 failed armour save, not very impresive. the bolt thrower though could not draw line of sight to the sarus, the wood was in the way.
the saurus advanced down the road, un aware of the fire storm they had just endured, i mean, they are that thick, while skink 2 moved into the wooded area, blow pipes ready. the skinjk preist attempted to thrower a metior shower over my men, but my dice had other thoughts, even though i didn't havem to role them, i 4 and 1 6, take a wound, .
TURN 2 DWARVES.
the dragon slayer continued his long walk toward skink unit 1. again the cross bow men fired upon the sarus, managing to kill yet another 2. the bolt thrower still couldn't see the sarus, but instead fired at the skink unit 2, and mangaled 1.
skink unit 2 moved out of the wood and into open terrian, skink unit 1 still did not move, the sarus still advanced toward my cros bow men, and now where 10 inches away. the skink priest killed him self trying to bring metiors down upon my lines, so no more magic yay! skink unit 1 threw their javalins at the dragon slayer, but missed every shot...
TURN 3 DWARVES.
the dragon slayer charged into the skink unit 1, again the cross bow men fired at the sarus, and again did next to nothing, but still managed to make the last part of the last rank drop to thier knees and fall flat on the ground. the bolt thrower fired! and missed. the dragon slayer killed 2 skinks.
The sarus marched forward, and where 2 inches away from my cross bow men. skink unit 2 blew as hard as they cold on their blow pipes, and killed 1 dwarf in the warrior unit. in combat the skinks still got massacered, 3 more being killed, they decided to leg it, after causeing a wound on my dragon slayer, grrr. they fled off the table.
TURN 4 DWARVES
the cross bow men reformed into 3 ranks while the warriors charged skink unit 2, they fled into the woods. the dragon slayer marched towards the sarus. the bolt thrower missed. this was starting to tick me off. :mad:
The sarus charged my cross bow men with and alimighty roar, the cross bow men held.skink unit 2 rallied in the woods, 2" inside it. the sarus butchered 3 unluckly dwarves, the lizards wining due to their musician, and i rolled a double 6! i'm really annoyed now!!! my cross bow men fled to 3" away from the table edge.
TURN 5 DWARVES
My cross bow men still ran off, while my warriors refromed in front of the bolt thrower, the dragon slayer ran towards the sarus, still out of charge range, he only moved 3". the bolt thrower fired, and killed 2 sarus, :realmad:
the sarus wheeled around and charged my warriors who held. skink unit 3 went into the open and shot all 3 of the bolt thrower crew down. the combat was adesive draw, each side killing 1. and the thanes duell acounting for nothing.
TURN 6 DWARVES
the dragon slayer ran towards the sarus. in combat the dwarves got buthcered and only the thane managed to kill 1. THE DWARVES FLED. the lizards ran forward and killed all my men :mad: :eek:
not much happened in this turn, the sarus turned around. and then all the 10 skinks blew their blow pipes and killed the dragon slayer! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Well, unlucky on the loss, but I hope you realise that your army list was illegal. The Dragon Slayer cannot take the Master Rune of Gromril because he cannot take armour.

Bolt throwers are nice, but with a Dwarf BS of 3 you can miss quite often. Consider taking a Stone Thrower with a Rune of Accuracy. You will probably get better results and not need to worry on the line of sight issues.
or i cud put rune of acuracy on the bolt thrower... i like my bolt thrower... what does that rune do any way..

anyways for your list/strategy:
i would suggest that you dont take a dragonslayer, they just arent all that good, and they cost a ton of points. at 600 points he is one tenth of your army when he has no equiptment or anything! :o also he cant join a unit to protect himself from shooting
anyways i dont really like your thane either, the runes you gave him were usless to him in the battle! anyways consider:
rune of speed: bad because 1 initiative never did anything for me in a battle, dwarfs are so slow anyways, it doesnt make much of a diference. also in this battle he attacks before the saurus anyways. if you want a guy who strikes quickly, go with the master rune of swiftness and buff him up with extra attacks, greatweapon, etc, although this only works very well with a lord, due to the large amount of points speant.
rune of iron: ward save can be nice, but i think it is too expensive unless you are going to be facing tons of high strengh stuff like kroxigors. i would go with armour save
rune of might: again, it can be quite nice, but what were you going against that had toughness 5? again if you see someting like kroxigors (idk if this is your main oppenent or just some random guy, but ill assume its your main opponent). anyways it also might be useful if you were trying to use him as a chariot breaker, but this is sometimes easier said than done for dwarfs since they are so slow.
rune of the furnace: just why? none of his stuff is fire, and even if it was it wouldnt be worth it. The only time i could think of this being even remotly useful is if you were facing skyre skaven that for some bizare reason decided to use almost exclusively warpfire weapons (gun and cannon) and not use ratling guns. another thing is if someone is useing predominatly magic, and uses lore of fire, or is a high elf player and loves that one phoenix spell (cant remember name, sry, not too familiar with high elves).
this is how i would equip my thane in a low points battle:
thane 72 points
rune of stone
hes nice and cheap, rather hardhitting, and has a pretty nice save in cc. i also love to use a BSB thane as it is so helpful in boosting CR, but it seems that your army is mainly shooting, so this might not be that great...
anyways as for your opponent (again idk if you know him, but pass the advice along if you do!)
lizardmen need to be aggressive with all their units (screening skinks may seem passive, but it is a deception, they are trying to help the saurus to be as aggressive as they can without getting themselves killed; slann and possibly accompanying unit excluded in the movement phase...). If they dont they will probably have a less than desireable outcome at the end of the game.
1. use some of them to screen the saurus: give these ones shields (and javelins) for the save. those shooting casulties were completely unessicary.
2. use some of them to scout: give these ones blowpipes. these little guys are great against a high toughness army like dwarfs, especially when the dwarfs are shooty. use the skinks to shoot at the dwarfs, pick off warmachine crew (if they have lots, use chameleon skinks for even greater effect!) and charge shooters to allow your saurus to get to them and crush them (as was seen that they can in the battle).
overall, i really enjoyed reading your battle report, as lizzies and dwarfs are my two armies. I hope i helped you out (and maybe your opponent too!). Lastly good luck and happy gaming

it was a tornament army, it had to be prepared, it wasn't just 1 off, it meant some thing, in the battle before against chaos i kicked but with my characters and unrivaled shooting, muwa ha ha ha ha!
