my in progress dwarf army of about 750 points at the moment (to see what im building towards look in the dwarf armylist section) took on a dark elf force today. i dont have all the models i want yet, so my army list may not look perfect and im just estimating on his i cant quite remember exactle the sizes of his units
Dwarfs 750 points
thane (general) 94 points
- great weapon
- gromril armour
- master rune of swiftness
thane (BS 107 points
- light armour
- master rune of gromril
15 warriors 150 points
- hand weapons
- heavy armour
- standard bearer and mucision
- BSB joins this unit
10 thunderers 145 points
9 longbeards 144 points
- standard bearer and mucision
- general joins this unit
stone thrower 110 points
- rune of accuracy
Dark Elfs 750 points
some thing like this:
dark elf hero
- blood armour (maybe he used it against me before)
unit of about 16 warriors -- with hero
unit of about 16 archers
unit of about 16 archers
- two handelers
the dark elfs won the role and decided to deploy second
i deployed my unit of warriors in the middle of my battle line with the longbeards on the right and thunderers on the left and my stone thrower behind. my strategy was sort of the enduring mountain, and to use my ST to take out the archer units while my thunderers protected a flank and my warriors and longbeards won the day in close combat.
he deployed with his arher units behind and to the side of his warrior unit and his hydra opposite my thunderers (note: i believe it would have been better for him to use the hydra on the other side, but oh well).
the dark elfs won the role and decided to take the first turn
Dark Elf turn 1
not much happens, all his units march towards me
Dwarf turn 1
i shoot my ST and it kills one warrior, lol. anyways i also reposition my thunderers by moving them up and to the side a little to take better aim at the hydra when it comes.
Dark Elf turn 2
he again moves up towards me, and his archers out to the flank where i dont have thunderers. and now most of my close combat army is in range of his archers, and his is in range of my thunderers
Dwarf turn 2
i march my warriors and longbeards towards his archers, now about 12 inches seperates my two units from his. I also shoot the hydra with my thunderers, and to my glee i kill both of the handlers. The dice seem to be with me today as he rolls a three on the monster reaction chart and his hydra is forced to shoot the closest unit: his warriors. the overgrown reptile spews out mouthful after mouthful of fire and completely destroys the warrior unit, including his hero I also shoot at his archers with my ST and it kills five of them. They flee 8 inches.
Dark Elf turn 3
the fleeing unit fails to rally and flees another 7 inches away from the battle
the other unit of archers fires at my warrior unit, wounding by BSB (i rolled a one on his armour save... argh...) and killing two warriors. His hydra continues its trek of killing his units, and charges towards his non fleeing archers (they began closer than the fleeing one)
Dwarf turn 3
i move my warriors and long beards towards the archers so that they were within charging distance and at the same time moved them away from the rabid hydra. I let stones fly as my stone thrower unleashed again and killed 2 elf archers. i also shot with my thunderers and dealt the hydra one of its six wounds
Dark Elf turn 4
the fleeing unit finally rallies
to my opponent's dismay the hydra charges, beats, and overruns the nearest unit: the archers i was approaching with my warriors and longbeards.
Dwarf turn 4
i charge his hydra with my longbeards and move my warriors into position, i also shoot with my ST and miss his unit of archers horribly (a combination of a bad guess and a bad role) i also had moved my unit of thunderers towards his archers.
Combat: one of the longbeards and the thane deal a wound to the hydra, which kills a longbeard. Longbeards defeat the hydra in combat which fails its panic test and flees 9 inches, the dwarfs pursue and due to a roll of snake eyes, and their resolute special rule, persue a lenghty inch.
turn 5 (second last turn):
Dark Elf turn 5
the fleeing unit comes towards my dwarfs and the hydra continues to flee (he had really bad luck with rallying this game)
Dwarf turn 5
i move my cc units towards the archers, but take cover behind a nice clump of trees (one of the few pieces of senery we set up). my thunderers move up, and my stonethrower misses
turn 6 (final turn):
Dark Elf turn 6:
the hydra continues to flee, and goes off the table edge
the archers, in a final attempt to do something move into my charge range
Dwarf turn 6
i shoot his archers with my stone thrower, killing two, and to my friend's horror, i move my thunderers 3 inches forwards and shoot (due to the fact that they have dwarven handguns, which can move and shoot. i guess it serves him right for not knowing my army book) anyways i only kill one more elf so it didnt matter that much anyways.
Well, it was a very strange battle, in which my friend the dark elf player had horrific luck with his hydra, and combined with his tightly packed units, lost him the game. I also probably could have made some better desisions with my deployment, and maybe moving my cc dwarfs a little faster towards his line, because he probably would have had good chances against my slow dwarfs had he not had such bad luck. anyways thanks for reading, may you have better luck than my friend did in your own battles, and comment away!
Ehmm I will try and make it short...!
Well it was a nice battle report, enjoyed reading it but...If I remember correctly then you can only have one master rune per battle! and you cant give your stone thrower a rune unless you have an engineer (if I still remember correct)! I would recommend that you just stood on your feet and watch your warmachines bomb your enemy, making them so weak so when they finally reach your proud dwarfs they dont stand a chance (unless you fight against high elf and he has a banner that may add an D6 to his CR.....grrrrrrr)
whoa if thats ture i cheated alot, but oh well. i think its that you can only have one master rune per character tho, not one per battle. idk about the warmachine and engineer thing, i cant find it in the rulebook, but that doesnt mean its not there
Wrong and wrong.ut...If I remember correctly then you can only have one master rune per battle! and you cant give your stone thrower a rune unless you have an engineer
You only have one version of each master rune per army and a single character may bear a single master rune from each type. So you can have as many master runes per army as you want as long as -
* No MR is used more than once
* No Character has more than one MR per item
War machines (Special choices only - ST, BT, Cannon) may have upto three runes on each. This does not require an engineer to allow them.
hehe sorry my bad..! I have been missing my dwarf book for a while now so my memory wasent that good...thanks for correcting me
yes thank you...
i thought that was how it was
His list was a bit unusal and he had some bad luck. But good job anyway.
thank you. also could ppl who know about dwarfs plz look in the army lists section and help me to improve and expand the army i used in this battle to 1000 points? thx again
i checked the rune on ur ST and it looks alright to me so i guess u diddnt cheat
would u use longbeards or iron breakers?
i depends on the situation...
longbeards have greatweapons, so they are nice as hard hitters.
ironbreakers have a really nice save, so they are good for wearing down the enemy in close combat.
so it depends on what you are wanting to do.
