Commander, Lion Guard, Heavy Armor, Great Weapon, shield
18 Spears wSB, Lion Standard + commander
5 silverhelms wC + BSB
5 Dragon Princes wBanner of Sorcery
Von Carstein count
Von Carstein thrall, on horse
5 dire wolves
8 Black Knights + thrall
15 Grave Guard + count
Turn 1: All his stuff moved up, i dispelled all his magic all game (except for one) so i wont mention it until then). I burned a scroll in the first turn, but in my own turn I caught his silly mistake of mounting a wizard on a horse, and promptly magicked him. I killed 3 knights with a bolt in the flank, killed two dire wolves with a fire ball, 2 ghouls and 6 grave guard with flames of the pheonix
Turn 2: Everything of his advanced again, his wolves charged the eagle bait, which fled, but left the wolves right in front of the black knights, so he spent alot of his movement walking around them. the eagle failed to rally next turn.
In my turn I suicided my other eagle into the block of zombies to try to kill off a mage, both attacks hit, but both failed to wound. The eagle fled off the board. Both chariots charged the ghouls, but one failed his fear test. The chariot broke and destroyed the unit of ghouls anyways.
In magic and shooting i put 4 wounds on the black coach from the bolt throwers, I got flames of the pheonix on the skellie unit, and killed 4 or 5 (he made a lot of armor saves), i also knocked the black knights down to 3 guys + the thrall.
Turn 3 VC: His black coach charges in, his bk move into charge range of my silverhelms. In the combat phase, i loose a couple of spears but manage to kill it off through a wound and combat res.
Turn 3 HE: My spears charged with the chariot (which failed its fear check again) into the gg. My silverhelms charged into the black knights, everything else got into better position. My magic and shooting phase were just sweet. I wiped out the block of skellies and the dire wolves, and brought down the zombies to 3 + the mage. I lost combat, but my spears stayed where they were. I cause a kill on the charge in return for one lost helm, but the battle banner saw all the knights go down leaving the thrall alone.
Turn 4: He dispelled the flames in his phase and got an irresistable force invocation on his zombies, they were back to 10. He charged them into the flank of the spearelves. The thrall died. His count challenged my commander who had to accept after the unit champ died last turn. Luckily he stayed alive because my ring of corin destroyed his magic weapon the turn before. In my turn both chariots and the dp charged in, where i killed a huge number of gg and zombies, and even more with combat res. The next turn his vc crumbled and the rest of his army.
This list moves to 8-0, still undefeated. I will be going to a tourney this weekend to test my mettle once more. (finished tied for 3rd in a tourney last month)
cheers! hope you liked it.
Thanks for another good report, Lord Anathir. I enjoyed reading it.
Sounds like you pretty well decimated the VCs. And he made a point of helping you out with his tactical blunders, like poor character placement and even poorer unit deployment. Serves him right, I say!
Nice Report, yet again the pics are brilliant, makes battle reports so much easier to understand.
"I'm gonna stomp 'em to dust. I'm gonna grind their bones. I'm gonna burn down dere towns and cities. I'm gonna pile 'em up inna big fire and roast 'em. I'm gonna bash 'eads, break faces and jump up and down on da bits dat are left. An' den I'm gonna get really mean."
I must admit he wasnt the best vc player. After regularily playing the winner of conflict toronto's vc, every vc after that seems easier.
Damn you Anathir. You make me want to get High Elves, even though I have already started Wood Elves!
no, you made the right choice....
with the release of the new book, the wood elves are hands down the better army in all aspects except fluff. Better rules, better unit choices, and now better models. The only reason i dont play woodelves is because im a fan of tolkien's high elves and more importantly their style of play: Ranked Infantry and heavy cavalry, magic and excellent magic items, glorious battle line, etc, etc.
I wouldnt like to play that type of army... I have 'no liking for their manner of warfare, of ambush and stealth and secret arrow' but yearn for 'brave strokes and battle in the open' - The thoughts of Turin Turambar regarding the type of warfare favored by the elvish fortress of Nargothrond (extracted from The Silmarillion by JRR tolkien).... get my jist?
Great battle. I'm pleased to see your list work so well versus the Undead. Good luck at the tourney.
I be pulling for ya,
