Personnaly I remember, but there are always grey areas, photos or notes would be best, you may also want to look in the general announcements forum at the battle map applet Blackhat is working on
Everything you have been told is a lie!
ive got a pretty good memory...i remember everything in a game for even a week.
2006 Record (2k pts): High Elves: 20/5/2 (wld)
Well battle reports take a long time, I have to make the game slower and write down something like this every turn:
Turn 1 Dwarves
Slayers face forest, nobody else moves
Cannon kills 2 Swordmasters Hoeth
Bolt thower hits silver helms fails to wound
Other war machines miss
Then I take a picture or something. If you're writing a narrative report make sure that everything is strictly in order and merge the turns, like HE Archers hit, kill two, then Dwarf Thunderers kill 5, then HE rbt misses, so that it doesn't sound like the turns are like blocks.
Narratives are always quite fun. Also when writing reports always write it up the next day so you can still remember roughly what happened, otherwise you'll forget the detail. Unless you have a super memory...
You could make a word template with each phase listed and have a copy of the template for each turn you'll play. Then go back and fill in the details.
It really depends on what you want. Eagletsi puts a lot into creating a story to go with the battle, but others, like me, just give the events of the battle. And anathir (I think it's him) creates images to go with his reports, which is really nice.
So it kind of depends on what you want to do.
Indeed, as someone whos made some batreps, I recommend you simply take a notepad and a pen. After you do an action, quickly shot it down short hand.
Tac1 - De 1 - 4 kills
Tac2 - Wych 1 - 5 kills
If you want you're battle report to be 100% correct with no errors you could always use a video cameria! Its just a thought ^_^ , however the picture idea always had my vote.
