"King Palos has sent his son, Prince Metehemnet, deep into the lands of the Orks in search of the ancestors of the Orks who battled his enemy King Phar. It is said that the high priest Elkenah, of Palos's mortuary cult is seeking ancient scripture lost to him to the servants of King Phar who in turn lost them to raiding Orks of the Black Mud clan.
A heavy wind blows at the backs of the ghostly army that winds through a badlands valley. Chariots painted in colors once bold and bright, now cracked and faded, archers drift in line after line, in and out of fog, and a great black casket trimmed in gold and amethyst is borne on the backs of lifeless, fleshless men, and an even greater wind is creeping from the lip of its macabre lid."
The Tomb Kings had...
1:High Priest Elkenah w/Staff of Ravening, Collar of Shapesh, Cloak of the Dunes
2riestess Quebesenuef the Falcon w/Enkils Kanopy, Hieratic Jar
3etmet folder of Space w/2xDispel Casket of Souls
4rince Metehemnet w/Chariot of fire, Magic shield, greatweapon, Vambraces of the Sun
5creaming Skull Catapult 6:25 bowmen, 15 bowmen, 10 bowmen 7: 6 carrion
8:4 Chariots, 3 Chariots, 3 Chariots ALL with standards
The Orks had...(forgive the lack of proper names)
1: 25 boyz with spears and Warboss with lots of attacks!
2:25 boys w/spears & BigBoss w/Butchery Banner
3:25 Black Orks with Bigboss 4: 2x20 night gobz w/2x fanatics each(nasty surprise!)
5:2x 3 crew Boar Chariots 6:10 spider Riders 7:Bolt thrower w/Bully
! All his units('cept Chariots) had full command.
I will refer to the board edge to my right flank as North.
The terrain was a small forest in the middle of my deployment zone passing from the 10'' line to about 14'' and about 8'' north to south. An Observatory(10'' sq.) about 20'' north of the middle of the board. A hill with impassable North & East Faces about 15''west of the Observatory. A low hill about 12'' south of the center of the board and a few inches west.
Orks pull a refused flank, from the south edge to the north, at the 12'' line,
20 gobz,25 boyz w/warboss, 25 Black Orks, 25 Boys, 20 gobz. The chariots behind the Black Orks, the spider riders and the bolt thrower on that hill to the North with the 2 immpassable faces.
The Tomb Kings, from the south edge stetch all the way to the north edge starting with,
25 archers joined by the priestess, behind them are 4 Chariots, one of which carries the Prince. Next are the Casket and the S.S. cata both have a line of sight to the far south Gobz and the boyz w/the warboss. Just east of the forest are another 4 chariots, north of the forest are 10 bowmen with the High Priest Elkenah in the midst, than 3 chariots hugging the West wall of the observatory, the six carrion snake behind them. North of the observaotory the final 15 bowmen. In retrospect I wa a little unhappy with how I deployed... I felt the Orks had done a better job!
The army of Methehemnet take the initiative... Turn ONE movement:
The 50 bowmen all advance, the chariots east of the wood sneak around to the west side preparing to swing around to face the northern goblins. The 3 Chariots at the observatory remain in its shadows, pressing against its eastern wall knowing that the spider riders could sweep around either side, they want to be in position to charge... Elkenah and the Carrion fly to a broad ledge that circles in a half moon about the southern border of the observatory's domed roof.
Majik: Incatation of smiting is cast on the south group of 25 bowmen who fire at the Warboss and his boyz... that sneaky git had set his Orks just back from the 12'' inch so the shooting fell short!
The 4 chariots that had swept around the wood now are sped northwards.
The Catapult sends a pile of elf skulls(last victims) crashing into the earth just before the Warboss.
Elkenah urges the Carrion to attack the Bolt thrower, enlivening their brittle wings, they creak across the sky, a flurry of jade feathers and iron claws land upon the hapless goblin crew who hold fast under the sharp crack of the bullies whip!
The Casket downs 2 boyz.
Shooting: The 25 bowmen send the goblins fleeing with some well placed shots and the catapult kills another 3 boyz.
Hand to Hand: The Carrion tear apart the gobz and overrun into the spider riders, hitting the flank.
The Orks begin the long march...
Movement:No squabbles, the gobz rally and the line moves forward.
Majik:1 wound caused by ead butt on the priestess.
Hand to Hand: the Spiders riders lost comabt rez and are caught by the carrion who chase them off the board.
Tomb kings turn 2, Movement:
the archers continue the advance, the prince and his chariots still holding back,
the 4 chariots who are now west of the forest continue there northward push and provoke the north goblin units fanatics, but they thankfully don't reach... the chariots are now in a position to charge one of the Boar Chariots, choosing it over the gobz as they would be hit by the same chariot in a counter-flank charge! Elkenah is begining the incantation to send them speeding forwards...
The 3 Chariots who were against the Observatory now emerge and head to join the middle group of 4,
Elkenah whirls in a great cloud of sand to land upon the western hill(w/2 impassable sides) and reaches the final verse of the spell...and the carrion return to the field to simply watch...
Majik: 25 archers fire with the Incantation of smiting and kill 3 of the Warboss's boyz, Setmet weaves a spell over the catapult and sends a load of burning skulls crashing into the warboss's mob, 4 die, but no panic 'ere.
The 4 Chariots charge the single boar Chariot and Elkenah sends a swarm of Locusts into the gobz down 2 or 3.
Shooting: 2 more Orks fall to the archers but it seems the skeletons couldn't load the catapult properly without a priests guidance...
Hand to Hand: There is a great splintering of wood and shriek of metal as the boars buck and snort, alarmed by the strange energy of the dead, but the Orks hold them still even as the blades of the chariots and skeletons hack and slash. Only 1 wound! The Chariot hits back and destroys one of the weaker Tomb King "ornaments". Two nobles will never see their tombs again...
Orks Turn 2, Movement:
The south gobz rally and the north mob of spear boyz squabble. The second Boar Chariot crashes into the Tomb Kings group, the Orks bellowing curses and taunts at the unflinching dead. The Warboss leads his group alongside of the Black Orks(who are to his north and just 1" east) closer to the line of archers, he can hear the clatter of the princes chariots turning to the north now...
the fanatics spin madly off, one impaling himself on splintered branches as he whirls into the wood, the other twirling onto the crest of the southern hill, close to the black Orks,
"mangy goblin gitz!"
The northern gobz reform to face the chariots fighting the boars, ready to hit the flank.
NO majik, no shooting.
Hand to Hand: The 2nd Boar Chariot and comes crashing into the rotted wood of the once proud, still noble tomb kings and grinds it into the dirt, no sound retaliation and between the 1st chariot and combat rez the unit is wiped out. The 2nd Boar Chariot does not overrun.
Tomb Kings Turn Three, Movement:
The carrion flap acros the sky, casting inky formless shadows over the boar chariots who stir restlessly as the glance skyward, but the great birds fall towards the south block of goblins landing behind the boar chariots and the squabling orks.
The 25 archers reform, shrinking their front and forming a second rank with the intent of becoming a 5x5 block.
Prince Metehemnet leads his Chariots towards the south hill, prepared to charge the Squabling Boyz to the North forgetting he can't actually see them over the hill... the unit of 10 and 15 archers move further to the west, now both in in position to capture a section of the field...
the unti of three chariots heads south from the observatory to stretch out along the west side of the Wood joined by the High Priest.
Majik:The prince attempts to lead his chariots into the Black Orks(now realizing he can't get the squabling orks), his attempt is nearly dispelled by the Shaman Mudgutz, but the princes personality is strong and his chariots defy logic colliding with the black orks, a hideous shriek echoing into the heavens.
Quebesenuef the falcon priestess moves the archers together into a solid block while Setmet strikes a seal on the casket of souls to send more power into the catapult which lobs a heap of skulls towards the fanatic on the hill, but deviates and creates another crater.
Elkenah brings the 3 chariots closer to and releases a cloud of locusts of cry of vengence upon the north unit of gobz. 2 or 3 fall.
Shooting: The 25 strong block of bowmen now can only shoot 5 times, but they manage to down a single ork in the Warbos's unit.
The catapult can see nothing and the other bowen are too far.
Hand to Hand: a bloody battle is about to begin and with crackling flames and acrid smoke Metehemnets chariot crushes 2 black orks, his servants destroy another 2, with his blade he sends 2 Ork heads tumbling through space and his steeds beat another into the mud. With a blinding flash the Big Boss stumbles back, caught by the brillance of the princes majik he can't attack to his full potential(the Vambraces), attacks back cause 2 wounds, the Tomb Kings win this round but the Black Orks don't even consider falling back. "Pesky Bonemen, we'll add yar pretty trinkets to our caves."
Orks turn three, movement:
A strong and feral feeling keeps the Warboss from leading his boyz into the chariots flank even as the fanatic on the hill barrels through them, sending colored baords flying and snapping elegant banners.
The south gobz reform to face the south hill, the north boyz reform to face the circling birds and the 2 boar Chariots charge the 3 chariots at the wood, but fail to reach them.
Majik comes to naught and no shooting,
Hand to hand: the Black Orks batter the Metehemnets chariots wounding the prince and with combat rez the only one rank and file chariot and the princes remains...
Tomb Kings turn 4, movement:
The carrion plummet like stones from the heavens, pulling up at the last to rake the goblins(south unit), a foul smell from the ranks but between cackling and screaming two fanatics come dancing dangerously, dashing one carrion from the sky and breaking the wings of another, still the great birds tumble into their flank.
The 15 and 10 strong unit of archers consolodate thier positions.
The unit of three chariots charges the north band of goblins and a strained smile stetches over the face of one of these dead nobles as for an instant, a glimmer of remembrance of life flashes into its soul.
The 25 strong block of archers moves slowly forward towards the Warboss and his cronies, the priestess behind them now, knowing full well that they must stop a flankcharge on the prince if he is to survive...
Majik: Incantation of smiting lets the pince beat a nasty rythem into the black Orks, his companion chariot does nothing.
The Priestess sends the 25 bowmen forward, their shuffling steps and hollow sounds errie and unworldly, the Warboss fails his fear test!... he flees into the unit of gobz fighting vs. he carrion, thus is moved through them contacting my unit str. 5 carrion unit and so is scattered and destroyed! ouch! a nasty piece of luck for the Orks...
Setmet and Elkenah both send chaotic energies towards the prince that take form and place the shattered puzzle pieces back in order... now the unit is 2 strong and the Prince healed, this in combination with the Banner of the Undying!
The Casket of Souls is opened and the light of death floods the field of battle, hosts of the dead scream and whirl into the clouds only to be pulled back to their torment and prison, the chains of the lich priests majik unyielding, the souls of the boars( ) and their orks masters are stolen as well, but a single wound remains on one chariot, the other is a broken heap.
Shooting: A single arrow from the 15 archers near the observatory kills the last Ork on the chariot, those nasty buggers won't be buggering my bony but anymore. yikes! (Iam glad the orks can't match me chariot for chariot!)
Hand to Hand: the carrion get beaten, but only just barely, unit str 5 is reduced to 4 by the only hit the gobz get, so they keep their ranks and I lose my flank. Combat rez kills two more birds. The goblins grin, things are looking up, especially now that there is a new position open for the Warboss...they turn in place...(aww...wait a sec, with a turn in place those gobz would not have had any flanks! oh well)
the 3 chariots run over many goblins, the rest break and flee, the chariots don't pursue because they would likely end up within the charge arc of the reformed Ork boyz beside them...
The Prince contines the fight, Orks fall and chariots splinter, but this round sees the Big Boss the the Shaman both biting the dust.
Orks turn 4, movement,
The Boyz mob on the north turns in place and trudges up the hill, ready to charge the Princes chariots next turn. The fanatics all whirl off the board and into oblivion... or home?
Hand to Hand: The Black Orks are down to about 11 memebers, they cause a couple wounds, but it's nothing the might of the liches can't return next round.
The goblins are doing well though, they beat the Carrion with static combat rez and cause the birds to fall to pieces.(gotta remember that turn in place bit for next time!)
Tomb King turn 5: movement,
the 3 chariots sweep behind the boyz and Elkenah takes position on the hill to send them on their way.
Majik:The liches charge the 25 strong block of bowmen into the black Orks and heal some wounds on the Prince and his unit. The Chariots make their charge, the boyz hold.
Hand to Hand: The prince and his unit, with the help of the bowmen, now severly outnumber the Black Orks, however, the Orks have a decent round and only lose 6-8... however, now they auto-break. The skeletons catch them and the chariots give chase too, stopping before the High Priest who must have something to tell Prince Metehemnet...
the other 3 Chariots cut a path into the boyz who don't fare as well as their Black Orks cousins, attired as they are in T-shirts...still, they hold, but only just.
ORK turn 5: movement,
the Goblins reform, the north gobz rally.
Hand to Hand: the final gasp of the Orks doesn't amount to much, although one of the three chariots is killed by the BigBoss with the Boyz thanks to the Banner of Butchery.
Tomb King and Ork turn six: What is there to say, a couple more wounds to the chariots, no one else can reach. No shooting, Majik heals some wounds... after the calculation of victory points the Army of King Palos scored a massacre, by some 1600-400 points... really it was that single moment, when the Warboss fled from the fear that turned the game in my favor. But damn Orks are tough...especially black Orks, and people shouldn't talk bad 'bout gobz neither, they always do their apart whenever I face them and are more than just fanatic caddies...
If I would have played this a little different I would have put my Casket and Catapult on the South as I knew he was lining up his Orks here, a cuple of decent rounds of shooting would have helped thin those ranks,
as for my friend, he just wanted some better luck at that crucial time though he still figures he might not even have scraped a draw... oh well. That's the way of war. Hope you, you? who R y o uu!? enjoyed reading this, my first attempt at a battle report.
...took almost as long to write as it did to play!
Good report, I always like to see Tomb Kings, one of the rarer armies.
One thing that bugs me though is that it is Orcs, not Orks. Orks are from space, Orcs are from the badlands. Orks fight Imperial Guard, Orcs fight Empire.
Nice report though.
...is another way of saying ninja. Much different sound and spelling, but... the same meaning? Anyhow, 40k was my first game years ago and I guess Orks is forever embedded in my memory... but your not the first person that a lack of strict conformence to the status quo/ spelling has been bugged. Hmmmmmm.
Thanks for reading.....
    :ninja:
And i really like your Avatar.
I know your friend's pain! I played vampire counts for a couple years before starting my O&G army, and I can assure you that it is a very different game between the two armies.
I really appreciate the Undead's crumble and immunity to fear/terror now. If my zombies lose by 8, I sigh and think about my magic phase. If my gobbos or orcs lose by 8 usualy I grumble and pull them off the table as they get swept.
Congrats on a good win, and if your friend is having issues with your magic, tell him to look into Mork's spirit standard if he doesn't want more mages.

Is the spirit standard the one that grants a bunch of dispel dice based on ranks? He often uses this one, but for some reason, even though I told him I was bringing a whole crew of liches, he left it behind.
Any other tips I can pass on would be great! Sadly for my friend, out of 9 or 10 games, the Orcs have never one... and I know they can be a nasty army just be looking at all those giant blocks with good toughness and in the case of Black Orcs, great armor and attack potential.
Nice report, I liked the extra fluff really made it visual and appealing! As a new OnG I always have problems with fear/terror causing armies. Well hopefully you can write more reports like this in the future!
In the rule book, on page 5, it says:
"The most important rule about playing games of Warhammer 40K is to have fun!"
Yeah really nice report.
Sounds like it was a bit of a mix of luck and tactics, like all games should be.
but are tomb kings rare? my gw has about 7 people that play fantasy in total, and 4 of those are TKers...needless to say i hate fear.
But anyway thx for taking the time to write it up.
