i scanned thru a few of these so might have missed one.. but anyone have a good / fun campaign for 4 ish people. that may involve leveling up units... like this unit lived.. or killed 3 other units so it gets exp .. and after so much it levels up . gaining like a plus 1 to str or somthing along these lines? while using a campaign setting?
wow i thought of a similar plan based on a DoW 2 theme that you choose what you battle and know what the reward would be..tho mine is for 2 ppl orcs being a waaargh brewing that the emipre have to repel building upto a huge final battle with characters which level and gain special bonuses and units that 'veteranize' i already started drawing up plans tho now i have replied to you im returning to my orignal purpose for coming onto the campaign bit to ask for ideas...
so , did you ever get anything written up?
I've run a campaign before that had 3 ranks of veterancy. The units ranked up based on a few factors, including capturing banners, slaying monstrous creatures, heroes etc.
For each rank, I gave them a randomly decided upgrade, by drawing up 6 possible upgrades for each level up and rolling a d6 to decide. The upgrades could be stat ups, but also special rules (such as stubborn for instance). For characters, level them up in a similar way, with experience rewards for certain actions (winning challenges perhaps). I prefer to upgrade characters with extra points allowances for wargear and stat ups than special rules, but it's your choice.
If you use this framework, all you have to do is decide what actions earn exp, and how much exp each action earns, as well as how much exp to level up. Just make sure you don't make things too complicated (don't reward exp for too many things), or the campaign will become difficult to run, and make sure each unit and character can only level up a couple of times, or they could get crazy powerful (no one wants to fight a chaos lord with 8S for instance).
Hope some of this is of use to you.
