hey guys just need some clarification.
AFAIK you can't equip unit champions with magical items, yet on the WoC board here people are always talking about putting magical items in you units?? what am I missing?
(ps they aren't saying add a hero choice to the unit, just magical items...)
Some of the newer (aka new army book) Armies are able to add magic items to thier champions, like for instance Most of the Dark Elves Special choice champions can add 25 points worth of magic items but the Core champions can't. Since Warriors of Chaos was recently done it probably holds true for them also.
interesting...I've read through the new WoC book and can't find that mentioned, but maybe I've missed it, I don't like the layout of the rules, they are really poorly put togetherm spread out through soo many different chapters/area's of different books, talk about confusing =/
If the High Elf book is anything to go by you should be able to find details of this in the "Army List" section at the back where you have the stats and points costs for units
With the new WoC book, a unit of Chosen can take up to 25 points of magical items on their upgraded Champion. It's the only (non-Lord/Hero) unit that can, and fluff-wise it does make some sense. It's a scary unit already, and the possibility of something "extra" can really ruin someone's day.

This is harking back to the "olden days" when champions were character models with enhanced WS, S A etc over their unit, and could take one magic item "card". A favourite of mine was a champion with the Orb of Thunder to ground any flying-high creatures....
The more "elite" units may allow their champions to take magic items - example being Dragon Princes, after all these guys are nobles and should have a few precious trinkets at their disposal. Similarly, Chosen are the best warriors in a Chaos army short of the Warlords and are probably senior lieutenants in the hierarchy, one step from becoming true champions and leaders of their warband. As such, they ought to have access to magical gifts from their dark masters. In both cases, the champions are uber-elites in an already elite army.
Imperial armies don't allow these options from a fluff standpoint because humans don;t really have access to gifts or herilooms with magical properties as readily as say Elves or Warriors of Chaso would, and would probably see such items as potentially dangerous.
