I played a game against a dwarven player tonight,
he said that if the target was in range, it was automatically hit, he then used the artillery distance die to determine how many hits where scored, and we resolved that # of hits at strength 5, with an additional -1 to armor saves for being black powder weaponry.
Is this the proper way to use an organ gun? (I can't get a hold of a hard copy of their rules)
Yep. Other than he can reroll the artilery die as long as it wasn't a misfire. And he is supposed to roll the artilery die first.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
Announce target, check range, if in range roll Arty Dice, unit suffers that many S5 hits.
Organ gun actually has a -3 AS modifier.
Well, clearly. Sorry, I guess that wasn't as clear as it should have been. You still do roll the arty dice on the off chance you'll have a misfire.
Also, you should roll any re-rolls before the range is checked too.
