Ok let me preface this: a 20 blocks of skeletons with a vampire in them casting a ton of spells. ince dryads do not get a save against magic they go up like a pack of matches.
ok say i play wood elves and i want that vamp DEAD! i charge with an alter lord(speed of a horse on foot, great weapon) by himself "yeah i know smart..lol". nowi'm in base conact now i could challenge him and this is where i have a couple of questions:
1) he refuses the challnge he moves to the back rank. now it says next round he moves up again. can he cast spells, shoot arrows, and fight the remander of this round and next round?
2)if i do not challnge the vamp do all my attacks go against the skeletons? or csn i direct the attacks at the vamp?
if you guys could help me with this situation that would be great
1. He moves back at the end of that close combat phase. Therefore, he won't get to attack that turn. During the next turn, he can cast, but is greatly limited because he's in combat. He cannot shoot because he's in combat. And you can simply issue another challenge to repeat the process. This is all assuming that you have a champ or character that can issue a challenge.
2. You can direct attacks from the models in base to base with the vamp, at the vamp. Anyone who's not, will have to attack skeles.
Also note that you can't challenge the vampire directly, if any other model who can accept challenges is in combat he can choose to accept with them. You only issue a challenge, your opponent declares who will accept it, but if he declines than any of his model which can accept the challenge can be sent to the back rank, and it's you choice who goes to the back.
ok just so i am crystal clear . if a single hero charges a unit with another hero i can attck that hero "if their are in base contact". so its easy to assassinate a hero in a unit
HA eat that vampfaces....sorry i have had a heck of a time fighting them..lol
This is in fact, why you never issue a challenge in that situation Also make sure when you charge you don't make contact with his unit champ, or he'll just challenge you with that model and you can't refuse.
(and why a smart VC player will put them in the corner of the regiment with the vamp and champ in base contact )

And just remember that the undead will just keep raising his champion back into the unit. That is a real bummer.
