I know there are rules on how many characters you can bring on the size of the army. But I was wondering if there are any rules on how many points you can spend on your characters. I played a 3,000 pt game the other day (WE vs Demons) and I was pissed to find out my opponent spent over 1,700 points on his characters! Is this legal? Can you spend as many points as you want on your characters?
Yes you can spend as many points as you want. Some leagues or tournaments will set a limit for there own uses, but the general rules don't set any limit.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
1700 points? What the hell! What characters did he have? Was he the Wood Elves or the Daemons?
I guess you can spend that much but allow me to reach for my HE book. At 3000 you get what 2 lords and 4 other hero choices.
Teclis and the Grim total 865
Dragon mage total with magic items over 1200 points.
two second level mages being fully upgraded and load get you slightly over 1600 points or slightly below 1700.
Bottom line this is according to the army books. I guess we now know why some tournments or stories limit the allowable points spent. This may not be fun but it is legal. Rules is what make civilization work. Our local store has a comp system which allows you to use anything but you get negative comp scores. I do not totally agree with the system but your choice is to play or not to play. Therefore I play.
This is why I preferred the older system for ponits based allowances. Made for much more entertaiing build outs - you could have an "eggs in basket" uber-lord or else have a dozne lesser heroes spread out. The new limits certainly don't make for effective armies if you go hero heavy, but if you go THAT hero heavy you may actually kick some serious a$$ before SCR comes tobite...

He must have had 2 maxed out Greater Daemons and a some maxed out Heralds, not to mention the BSB.
