Hi guys, another quick question here:
I know fast cavalry has 360 line of sight for shooting and can shoot in any direction but still have their line of sight blocked by friendly models. Do the models within a unit block line of sight for other models in that unit or are they like squirmishers and don't block LoS within the unit.
for example if I have a line of 5 glade riders facing north, and I want to shoot at a unit directly to the west flank, can all the models see and shoot or can only the rider on the end see and shoot at that unit?
I think the line "does not allow them to shoot through friendly models" answers this...
In your example only the one model has line of sight.
Of course you could just execute a free reform...
They aren't skirmishers, so other models in the unit block line of sight as normal. In your example, only the one on the end could shoot.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
To add to this, something ive always wondered but never asked. If you have 2 ranks of Fast Cav, and you want to shoot something behind them, then by the above the front rank cant shoot as they are blocked by models in the back rank, but are the models in the back rank allowed to shoot? Or does this go against the rules for front rank only shooting?
I would have to say that they could not shoot. However, as Lemontron said, you could just use your free reform to turn around or to spread out into one rank so they would all have LOS.To add to this, something ive always wondered but never asked. But if the fast cavalry had 360 line of sight then they should be able to see behind them right?
That's right...but not through other models (ie ranks...)
I can't find a rule that actually says only the front rank is allowed to shoot anywhere. The rule that says 'normally' the second rank can't shoot *because* the front rank blocks line of sight. This is a very different thing from saying they're actually not *allowed* to try if they can in fact see.
Other models block line of sight unless you're aiming at a unit on a hill or a large target...
There's no other way around it.
The question was, can the second rank of a fast cav unit shoot backward even though only the first rank is allowed to shoot. I was saying I can't find a rule that actually says only the first rank is allowed to shoot. Just one that points out the second rank doesn't normally have line of sight. In the event that they do have LOS (e.g., fast cav shooting backward) it would seem that are indeed free to shoot.
