Given the above situation where your unit has been flanked...
At the end of combat, do you calculate your +1 CR for having a standard?
You get the bonus if the standard is in your 'front rank'. In this case, your files have become your ranks in which your standard is somewhere near the back.
I have seen it played both ways...is there a definitively correct way?
This Roman knows...
You would get the bonus for the standard. It is still in the front rank. The side you are flanked on does not become your front, it is still the flank. Any character bonuses, or other things that require a model to be in the front rank still apply when hit in the flank. You will even get rank bunuses to combat resolution if the flankers are skirmisers, or below unit strength 5.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
