OK so this must be the only thing I don't know now.
1.How does it work? also how does it work on stegadons? Is the randomised or everyone under the template hit?
2.Oh another thing, I for some reason thought when characters charge out a unit against a missile unit and they stand and shoot they shoot the unit not the character. I think I heard it on a podcast, maybe baddice, but I now can't seem to make sense of this, I'm sure it was correct but I've forgotten!
Don't have the BRB in front of me for #1, but #2 is handled in the FAQ part 2:
Q. If a character declares a lone charge out of a
unit against an enemy armed with missile
weapons, and the enemy elects to Stand and Shoot,
whom do they target with their Stand and Shoot
reaction – the character or his unit?
A. They will target the character’s unit, and if the
unit panics and flees, it will take the character with
Its covered in the BRB, last paragraph of the Shooting at Monstrous Mounts in the Monsters Second p.61.
If the template covers the base, mount and rider are both hit. If its a partial cover, do one 4+ roll, if it hits, both rider and mount are hit. If the center of the dot in on the base of the model, mount and rider are both hit, but you must randomize (as you would for regular shooting hits) if the mount or the rider takes the higher strength hit.
Ok, so what happens if you use a stone thrower against something big like a stegadon? The template is too small to 'cover' the base of the stegadon. So will it always count as a partial? And who is hit?
as tbecket mentioned, when the centre is on the base, both are hit, while the high strength hit is randomised

But a stegadon have more than one rider.
So the stegadon, the character and all 4 crew members are hit?
Or is it the stegadon, and one random crew member/character?
Stegadon, all crew, and any character on top is hit. You randomize who gets the higher strength hit. The randomizing is the same way as if an arrow was being randomized at the stegadon (1-4 steg, 5 a crew, 6 a character)
