hey im incredibly new to Warhammer, well Fantasy Battle to be completely honest, 5 years ago i played 40k, anyway ive picked interest back up in standard warhammer and im struggling to get a few basic ideas so i truly do apologize for if this sounds retarded.
Basically i find it hard to grasp a few things, firstly, when in standard combat the first 2 ranks of a unit attack, so if it is 5 wide and 4 deep it would recieve 10 attacks 5 for first rank and 5 for the second, and third and fourth receive nothing
however if the unit was equipped with spears, does this mean that there are 3 ranks attacking, so there would be 15 attacks, 5 for the first rank 5 for the second and 5 for the third, with the fourth having nothing?
Another question is, if the unit had additional hand weapons, would the unit recieve 15 attacks or 20? as each warrior is granted a second attack, does this also apply to the 'supporting attacks' or just to the first rank of soldiers?
apologies for any 'noobiness' expressed in asking these probably quite simple questions. im just a tad confused by the rulebook.
OK, I will give you the basics here. The first rank will attack with whatever number of attacks they have on there profile plus any bonus attacks. So if they come with one attack, like dwarf warriors they get that. If they come with two attacks on there profile, that is what they would get. Or extra hand weapons would give the front rank an extra attack.
The second rank only ever gets one attack. Doesn't matter what they have.
The third rank can attack if they have spears and didn't charge. Or is the unit is ranked 10 wide. How many are in combat is irrelevant.
The fourth rank would get to attack if they had spears and didn't charge and were ranked 10 wide.
There are the basics. Some things break these basic rules. High elves especially. And monstrous infantry can get up to 3 supporting attacks each in the second rank.
Hope that helps,
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
thankyou very much that does help a lot, i just sorta read the entire rulebook in one go and got most of the points, thank-you for clearing that up for me
