We had a situation last night where a unit of three Wolf Chariots charged into a multiple combat and then got destroyed.
After impact hits, the chariots first got hit by I5 where one of them died, then I4 where another died, then there were a bunch of I3 attacks going off back and forth and the third one died.
We then measured 6" from where the last chariot died and no unit was within range, but if we measured from where the other two chariots were before, then one unit was within 6". We decided to measure from where the unit was at the start of the phase and make the unit take a panic check. All of the 80 Night Goblins (including 2 characters) then promptly ran off the board.
Did we do it right?
Personally I would say from the last model(s) taken off the board especially if it is very clear that they died from different sources. If it becomes a massive issue roll off for it.

Yeah it's from where the unit was at the start of the phase because they still got killed so would cause panic.
