Hey again folks need another round of clarification (if you can't tell I tend to nitpick everything ). I am just starting to try out assassins in my dark elf army and gaining access to my first "thrown weapon" and am running into some questions. The BRB just shows their range as 6 inches (apparently my throwing stars are special with a range of 12') which still seems very small. My largest question is do these still suffer a -1 penalty for shooting at long range? Meaning a regular thrown weapon would have to be within 3 inches to not suffer a penalty? I know my assassin has a huge BS but I am curious since my next army choice apparently uses thrown weapons heavily and I am wondering if they are worth it.
The throwing stars have "quick to fire" which means they don't suffer a minus for moving and shooting. You do however suffer a penalty for range. But if you are a skirmisher, you can march and shoot. You can also always stand and shoot, regardless of range. That should cover all of it.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
He probably already knows about quick to fire and is getting greedy... Wants to have his cake...and his ice cream...and his chocolate pudding...and eat them all, too!

Well in honesty I was. Just looking for the purpose of giving my corsairs a handbow...range of 8 inches and yes I did know about the no penalty to move and shoot but I'm looking at the potential payoff of losing one of my cc attacks for a few shots...almost any charge coming at me would be over 4 inches so -1 for range, then another -1 for stand and shoot, and if I do the multi shots that means their bs will be at 1 and only 6s would cause a hit and I can't see any use for such a short range wep minus this...
