When I attack with my terradons, do I have to do the hit & run thing? Or can I leave them in base contact after the close combat if I choose? Cuz yknow, sometimes its better to NOT do hit&run.

I don't see why not. Would be a bit bad if they couldn't stay and fight.
Or maybe terradons die if they touch the ground?

The answer is: yes and no.

If the Terradons lose combat or the combat is a draw, they automatically fall back (not optional). If the Terries WIN combat, they may ELECT to fall back before the enemy rolls the Break test. See Lizardmen Army Book, p. 30.
