Sorry for the stupid question but is a champion in my squad of chaos warriors considered a character for the purpose of using weapons and equipment?

    Thanks!

don't think so, sorry man. inless there's some special rule in HoC army book that says champs get access to the armoury they're equipped like the rest of the squad.
that's the thing about perfection, it can only get worse.

Not as in the sense of you being able to equip them differently, so no. Champions must be armed exactly the same was as their unit unless they have a rule saying different. But champions are character in another sense, in order to kill them attacks must be aimed at them and these don't carry over onto the unit and they may make and accept challenges.

The only exception that I can think of here are some high elf unit champions (eg swordmasters, dragon princes, etc) have specific points costs alllocated to the unit champion only, which they can allocate to magical items.

Chaos unit champions definitely cannot take magical items.
The iron crowned is getting closer,
Swings his hammer down on him,
    Like a thunderstorm he's crushing,
    Down the Noldor's proudest king.

Under my foot, so hopeless it seems.
You've troubled my day, now feel the pain.

Unless you take Garagrim Ironfist. Then an entire unit can be given runic weapons.

Actually, can anyone take him anymore? He did die during SoC, but they made a model for him... anyone know?

Yes but then he's a special character, and the entire unit would have to be made of Giant Slayers which is quite expensive. Yes he does have a model and he did die.

But this is going off topic now, so as the question has been answered...
