Hi, sry, im unsure about models striking back. i know that once an enemy model is killed, one from the rear of the unit is removed, and another model takes his place. is this model that moves into position as it were able to make attacks that combat round?
e.g. a unit of 20 chaos warriors charges 20 swordmasters, the warriors inflict 5 wounds, equal to the number of swordmasters in the front rank. would that mean that the swordmasters could not strike back that combat round?
thanks for your help, if this is right ive been playing it completely wrong
Say your unit of 20 chaos warriors kill 5/4 of the swordmasters. That means only one swordsmaster will be able to attack back in that round of combat.

GET ER DONE!
If those Chaos warriors kill 5 swordmasters (assuming they have a 5-wide formation), none of the swordmasters can attack back (because the five that were in the fighting rank are dead). It takes a turn for more troops to step forward into the fighting rank, so the elf unit can't make any attacks until the following turn (assuming they don't break of course).
However (there's always an exception isn't there?!), if the Swordmasters have a unit champion or character model in the front rank and they suffer five casualties, then then the unit champion and/or character model(s) can still fight. They are not automatically killed when the front rank is wiped out, since attacks must be specifically directed against them to kill them.
Hope that clears things up at bit, please feel free to ask if you have any other questions, or if you don't quite understand what I mean.
"Peace, through superior firepower."
Tzeentch Lord covered that nicely.
Confirmation is always nice, isn't it?
thanks guys, that all makes sense. i like great weapons alot less now
That's why you get the charge and break them in the first round. Easier said than done, I know all too well...Originally Posted by will_sanders
