In a tournament this past weekend I had my unit of 5 mounted squires charged by a unit of 9 dryads. My opponent then says, "go ahead and move my models I should have 7 in combat with corners." So I move his pieces and then I notice that the bases don't match up corrctly to get 7 in combat. So I say to my opponent, "I can only get 6 in combat because the bases don't match up correctly." He then insists that they do so I pick up a Yeoman and a Driad and show him that his driads base is larger then mine. Infuriated he yells at me, "they're 25mm bases and your horses are on 25 by 50mm bases as described by GW. I don't care if they don't match up right that's the way that they should have been made. I can't help it if GW screwed up their models." So to keep things moving I gave in. I do acknowledge that it is quite correct that this is the way that the models are described in the BRB, but I just want to know in the spirit of the rules should we have brought 6 or 7 of his models to bear on my troops? If so it almost makes me want to fix all of my cav bases, but it seems to me that GW would have done this deliberatly.
As they both should be on 25mm bases (quite how you've got smaller cav bases, I don't know - they've been 25mm for a long time) 7 models should be in contact. You were technically the one in the wrong, even if you didn't know it.

Rork's correct, but it's too bad your opponent was so nasty about it. In if that situation, I'd concede the point and say something like, "Easy, now. You're overcome with the spirit of the forest." Or something corny to lighten the mood. Nothing like one bad exchange to put a damper on the remainder of the game.
The cav bases that I have been using for my army are all the same size, some of them are from 5th, and some of them are the new 6th models. I have some old Driads with 25mm bases, and they don't match up. My opponent was using old 5th Driads. Perhaps they have fixed the 25mm bases? The cav bases that I have are about 1-2mm short of the old 5th 25mm bases that I have.
No, if you actually measure the short end of a cav base, it's a little short. The rules all say it's 25 (so just play it like it is), but they're actually slightly less. Yes, I measured at one point, I get that bored. Neither of the bases have been changed in years, so that's not it.
