Nope, for all remains in play spells (unless a particular spell specifically states something else) once the caster of the spell is either slain or otherwise no longer in play, the spell ends.

If the Butcher spells remain in play even after the Butcher dies (which I think they do) it would specifically state that somewhere in the Ogre Kingdoms book.

Unless is it stated otherwise a remain in play spell is cancelled if:

    The wizard is fleeing
    The wizard is dead
    The wizard casts another spell.

All of which stop them from concentrating on the spell in question and thus it stops.

This is the example that I wonder about. Are there any exceptions to this?

I can't think of any off the top of my head, but there may be some floating around in the armies that don't use the normal lores.

According the FAQ "preview" that GW has put out,
    Q. If a Butcher is killed, are all the Gut Magic spells he has in play removed?

    A. Yes.
