I was just wondering. When playing in a tournament can you use stand-in models or should you have the right models? Like if you are 5 warriors short...
it depends on the organiser. Some might say that you have to use models that are fully painted and based, others might say that yo could use tokens. You would have to ask them.
If it is a GW held/sanctioned tournment then you have to go by WYSIWYG, they are very strict on this. If it is a local store held one, ask they may be more lenient.
Generally though you must have the correct models and number of them, no stand ins allowed.
The thing I don't like about WYSIWYG is that I have trouble showing certain items on characters (for instance, do you need to show dispel scrolls on a model? Do you have to make sure magic weapons are clear on the model, or do you just say he has such and such magic item? It really bugs me, cause if you want to try out a new item on the character that would mean getting a new model.....that sucks....
....He is coming for YOU....
"Master Bungle is right" - Stonehambey
"Get out of my house Master Bungle!" - Victim
Scrolls do not need to be shown and if the model has a magic weapon as long at they have a weapon all is well - GW has been noted to say that using say, Sword of Might as an Axe of Might is ok etc.
I have to disagree.Originally Posted by King Ulrik Flamebeard

One inparticular stood out, because the player was probably only 8 or 9 years old (tourney rules stated that players must be at least 14 years old) and the kid had several unfinished elements of his army (the most obvious was a predator's main turret) (which I think happened to change from twin las to twin auto during different fights).
He was accused by several players as cheating, and was reported to judges, who did absolutely nothing. I stood by and observed his final game, (which he didn't have a codex or army list for) and caught him on several occassions trying to fire twice in one turn with the same squad,
That's the only GW run tourney I've attended, but if that's a measure of how they run most of their tournaments, then I'm even happier that I'm not a tournament gamer.
Yeah, as others have pointed, first and foremost, ASK THE ORGANIZER.
Somethings are fine, others are not. Most all tournies require wysiwyg, and 3 colors painted, and based. Going from there, GW tournies (different from local shop tournies) generally require you to have all aspects that are available in their model line, so if they have a goblin archer, and you have one with a crossbow, you're out of luck.
But scrolls and other items are pretty easy to make none-the-less. And you can them via magnets, along the base.
16,000+ of Eldar (only need flyers)
7,000+ of Nids (want heirophant)
6,000+ of Space Marines (need rever titan)
4,400+ of Cygnar (all models for the faction)
1,500+ of Legion (just started)
I thought that WYSIWYG required 50% or 51% of the unit to be equipped the way they're suposed to(i.e. half or almost half the models don't have to have bows)Originally Posted by tarzen
im not sure about that one, but if that is true then it is going to save me a lot of time on my Vampire counts skeleton archers (i play blood dragons rules found in the back of the book)
YAY 250th post!! Sssssooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy!
My Chaos warrior unit is made up of two different types of warrior. Half have hand weapons and shields and half have halberds and shields. As long as I put whichever type the unit actually is at the front (usually the hand weapon guys), no-one is bothered since the guys at the back are the first to go when they take casualties and the guys at the front are what my opponent sees first anyway.
Of course, the fact that their halberds just look like big axes helps too...
