Hi guys, first post
After a 10 year lull in playing I've just picked up WHFB with my fiancée (we're not that old at 25, really).
Anyway, the base sizes that are available to standard minis - 20mm and 25mm. I realise that the Orcs that come with the box use the 25mm and Empire the 20mm but, for future reference, is there some definitive list that'll tell us what each model is meant to go on? Or is it a case of Empire - always 20mm, Orcs - always 25mm etc?
Thanks in advance
Each type of model does indeed have to go on a certain size of base. This is usually due to the physical size of the model. For example, even though their stats are identical, Chaos Marauders are much bulkier than Empire swordsmen and therefore have to go on 25mm bases, whereas the swordsmen go on 20mm bases.
GW have produced a list of (nearly) all the troops in warhammer for all the races listing what size base they have to go on. You can find that list here. If you're only playing friendly games, don't worry too much if your infantry basing is slightly off (if you've got Orcs on 20mm bases for instance), it won't make much difference to your games. Only start to worry if you want to play tournament games, because it's inherently so competitive, if your models are on the wrong size bases, you'll probably find yourself kicked out of the tournament.
One last point, everything in Warhammer must go on Square or rectangular bases, so don't base your flyers on the clear round base (if you've been supplied with one). Most flyers go on 40mm square monster bases.
Hope that helps

Thanks for that Tzeentch Lord, just what I was looking for
the giant bases are too small... the new ones are 75x50 .
if anyone helps you with an army list or rules/fluff , then give them some rep
