I was comparing the 7th ED lores of magic to the 6th ED lores and noticed that many of the changes made some spells easier to cast and more powerful. Another thing that was repeatedly altered with many of these spells, was that they were now castable on units in cc, as spelled out in their descriptions.
One thing I noticed while comparing the lores, was that the spell descriptions of the Lore of Death no longer included the caveat restricting their use against undead or daemons.
I know that common sense would restrict the use of death spells against the dead or daemonic, but common sense has been previously brushed aside by the letters of the rules.
Does anyone have any insight as to whether the Lore of Death can now be used against the undead and daemonic where possible?
Thank you for any responses.
I don't have any necromantic ability not training to base this on but I'd suggest that Lore of Death might be used to deconstruct the dead animates, or maybe drain whatever energy is used to animate them. If dark magic provided the energy maybe it can be disrupted or removed through the same dark magiks.
Or alternatively it's been revoked to make the spell lists more balanced for tournament play.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
To answer the question, it now works just fine against all foes. It no longer lists the restriction, and thus the restriction no longer exists. That is now (thankfully) a thing of the past. Much like how poison over 5th and 6th ed evolved into effecting everyone and now in 7th ed. is taken for granted.
Paintmonkey lists some good fluff reasons for it if you need those.
Strenghtening the lists was done to some extent, but it was neccisary as magic took hits in other areas in 7th ed (ie you can't use dice generated by another caster, only your own and common pool).
