I was wondering how old the average LO member is, the hobby seems to be getting younger and simpler, what do you think?

not many people, but I am going to have to say 19-25 is the average.

Why is there such a small sample for the older ages. We have incriments of 2 up until 18, then a 6 year gap with the 19-25 group, a 14 year gap with the 26 to 40 age group and then just 40 plus.

I just think the survey incriments should be smaller to get a more accurate reflection on the age group of hobbyists

Hey! im 26, why am i lumped in with 40 year old Gramps?

Says a lot about the poll maker if they think of mid-20s peeps the same as middle aged people

Seems strange that the players are getting younger and the game simpler, I on the other am getting older and simpler at the same time

I know a lot of older players who do not frequent forums such as this. It is important to also ask "which age group is more likely to see a poll posted on an intarwebz forum?" I think this might affect the results somewhat, although how much I would not like to venture:)

Even though my thing says 15 I am 14.... don't know why. This poll sort of dispelled my anxiety about college because most people are college age and I thought you wouldn't have enough $$ to play in college. Yay for college!

19, 20 in a couple of months.

It would have been interesting to see the results of a similar poll here say 2 or 3 years ago, to see if the majority swing from 19-25 to the 16-18 category. ie, whether the same LO members are here but when they started they were younger, or the average age for the hobby (/the forums) is 19-25.

Requirements of neat spelling etc on forums sorta rules out the younger, stereotypically irritating people.

Ugh, I'm 27 (soon to be 28). Really should have separated the greater than 30's from the less than 30's. It's depressing for us OLD people to be lumped in with the 40 year olds (no offense to the 40 year olds :D )

Hey, I'm sorry'bout the 25-40 thing, I was thinking more peolple were in the 13-19 age group, at least most of the people I know are.

I'll 30 in a couple of days... hope that doesn't make me an old fart

Interestingly the principle GW dealer in my area reckons the average age of his clientelle are in the 25-30 age group. I think without a doubt it's a cash flow thing. Minis aren't exactly cheap - what models are? So most modellers/gamers need to be fairly self-sufficient. Just my opinion based on observations on my regular historical miniatures site.

Hey! I'm not a geriatric...just think of me as "venerable". You should count yourself fortunate to be lumped into the category of the wise, worldly, and learned...Respect your elders!:D

I'm 14, 15 in a few more months. My source of in come is begging to do odd jobs for money(Of course money, think I'm stupid, I got 3 armies to feed plus another on the way lol {goofy} :O )

WildGoose, the reason the players you know are 13-19 is because you're in that age bracket yourself :)

I'm 23, and everyone I play with is about my age.

As for money, I think it goes up and down. When you're much younger, your folks will buy you stuff. As you hit high school and college age, you're expected to have a part-time job to pay for everything, and it just doesn't stretch that far. But then once you're out in the workforce, the things thta seemed incredibly expensive all of a sudden are more affordable (emphasis on MORE).

the category of the wise, worldly, and learned...
...and slow, just kidding, but really the older you get the slower you are. (Generalization because my Grandpa can kick any college kid arse in a race anyday... exspecially when his hip is acting up... then he is crazy!

But as Stonehambey said, this poll doesn't really reflect the gaming community -- it only considers users of LO who are currently active, viewing the General Hobby Discussion forum, and answering polls. Most kids I know hardly have the patience to sit at a computer unless they're playing some kind of shoot-em-up game :D
