This thread, along with its counterpart in the Conversion Forum, will be looking at various images of Fantasy and 40K models. As the title suggests, a new image will be posted each day, focusing on the different options available to each army. Unfortunately, as a 40K player, the bulk of my images are of 40K models (sorry Fantasy players, I just don't have that many of the Fantasy game). Of course, everyone is welcome to add images of their own. With any luck, this should prompt a few Fantasy players *nudge...nudge* to fill the gap.

The Dreadnought with the big hand reaching out and the assault cannon is good. I like the realism in the paint work. Post some giant Tyranids, I need some inspiration!

The Dreadnought with the big hand reaching out and the assault cannon is good. I like the realism in the paint work. Post some giant Tyranids, I need some inspiration!

I really like that model as well. I wish I had some images of it as a WIP in order to see the steps. At any rate, request granted: Tomorrow, I'll post some Nids. Anything in particular that you're looking for? You said big, so I'm thinking the monstrous creatures.

The funny thing is that I even scored him 9/10, but apparently that wasn't good enough.

And then I saw him marking other great stuff below the 5/10 mark and saying that the models were poo when they patently weren't, flaming left and right. Apparently, he turn out to be a part of a clique that boosted their own scores and sniped others to advertise their studio by 'beating' the competition on CMoN.

He was the main reason I looked elsewhere and found myself on LO.

So thanks to him I've never looked back! :w00t:

I'm sorry to hear that. Admittedly, I get quite a number of these images of CMoN. It's the best mass quantity source for great looking models. Still, that doesn't excuse the actions of this painter. Oh, and I completely agree about the plants; they make the model look like something my grandmother would have in her living room :D.

Nothing would please me more. So far, no one has posted their own models, but I suspect that has to do with the fact that members can simply open their own threads and get specific comments regarding their own models. Of course, I'm happy to have members post images of their own stuff.

I really, really like the metal on the back of the ultramarine dreadnought. I wish I could (or had the time to try to) do that.

I've found a few of the CMoN crowd to be a little too into themselves for their own good. It's sad.

Oh, you don't want to know. I can't vouch for any one of these particular artists, but the following model took 100+ hours to complete (includes conversion and painting). It's along the same quality. I would imagine that at least a third of those 100 hours were invested in the conversion, so a basic (non-converted) space marine of the same general quality probably takes somewhere between 60-80 hours. Imagine doing an entire army like this!

I really like that last guy, and I've seen him before in WD. That won (I think) the 2006 Games Day Spain. Good stuff. I especially like the scratch-built little bolter-anointer guy. I love it!

Funnae. Arjay's LOTD has an amazing illusion of real armor. When I first saw this model, it took me a moment to realize that it was painted. It really does look like a reflection.

Yeah, I know...not much armor. I couldn't figure out what to title the pics for the day. I was thinking about 'female priests' or 'female religious something or other.' In the end, I just opted for something simple, albeit, it's a little inaccurate. Thanks for foiling things :D.

Awesome thread rabbit. I especially liked the space wolves. Those have to be some of the most realisticly painted models that I've ever seen and they really come together well.

That Daemon Prince(?) that nemy posted is amazing. I can't believe the freehand on it. It's just incredible. Not sure what else to say about it as I don't think words can describe how amazing the freehand on it is.

Seeing these just makes me want to throw away all the models I have ever painted in disgust with myself for not being that awesome.

I know the feeling all too well. For the Demon Prince, I had the privilege of seeing last year and I can tell you the photos don't even come 10% close to exactly the insanity Victor Hardy did with the Demon Prince. My mouth was literally dropped open.

I have seen those three before (dwarf, orc and elf) as they are available to buy. I believe they're 54mm scale by andreas miniatures (I can't remember the company name properly).

Wow, that gold Azrael is fantastic. I especially like the way the angel of death's eyes have a luminating effect on his banner. I don't like the calgar, but only because Papa Smurf enrages me game-wise.

He suggested that I post some kind of warning beforehand. However, based off of Ikterus recent conversion thread (which contained an artfully crafted organ of the male anatomy), I don't think I can preface a thread with a 'Rated R' warning. Nemesis has already advised that this forum is meant to be PG-13, and having such a rating contradicts our rules.

If I can speak briefly on behalf of the mod team (which btw, are all excellent chaps and more than willing to help out- ego fluffing), I'm fairly confident that none of them see your work as anything but a product of creative ingenuity. More than anything, they just want to keep things on an even keel, in case we get a sensitive member who takes offense to such nude creations. I get the feeling that the mods don't have any personal issues with your work or that lovely nude female I posted today, but they've got their job to do, which entails keeping everyone happy on this forum.

Also, it's sometimes good to have controversial models posted in this forum. It helps in redefining the difference between pornography and artful nudes. Of course, there's always a gray area (art- go figure!).

hey, I have no problem with it. Art is art, profane or not, its up to the beholder to appreciate or avert their attention. But yes, ikterus' recent post is why I thought I'd at least give you a shout out, so at least its been discussed, my friend.

I suspect the fact that that particular model has a "50's Scifi Novel Cover art" style to it, would also have lessened the "offensive nature" of it.
You have been posting some seriously good works....none of which encourage me to pick up a brush.
I especially like the dark forbidding Dual Pistol hunter one, and the second last one, which is incredibly well painted (except the NMM which just looks fake).

What ranges are these? I like that trenchcoat girl with the two pistols. What scale is it? Anyone know?

Some of the obscure ranges can be found at coolminiornot under the store section.
Unfortunately there are a lot of other miniature ranges throughout europe that just isn't represented in the US, and their websites are in non english form.(some very nice french mini companies that I will probably never get to paint)

I've been gone for like 9 days and after looking back on this, I saw that wolf lord is an amazing model. I have a special like for space wolves and the ones that you've posted are great as are all the other models.

That is some seriously impressive painting, especially considering the proportional increase in difficulty found with doing such large areas.

I think for most painters of this caliber, it might actually be easier to paint these larger models. For one thing, they're not having to 'miniaturize' all of the detail, and hence, can give more attention to flushing out highlights and what naught. My two pennies anyway.

For those of you that wanted to know, The Trenchcoat Girl is called "Dione" (really just their clever way to get around naming her Selene from Underworld) and is by the miniature company Hasslefree, although I got mine through CMON.

Beware the miniature is really small!

-T, I added the tightrope in there to give the elf a fighting chance. So, an elf can't out-drink and dwarf, and a dwarf isn't proficient on a tightrope. It seemed a natural balance. And here I am explaining how my joke that went wrong. ;?

Some nice choices there. Though, I dislike the second one (Rackham) due to its very cartoony look and of course the last because it is an ogre, not a dwarf. We don't grown that large. Hence the name "dwarf" -___^

The first however, love that mini. One day I will buy one!* And of course the sleeping drunken dwarf.. though sacrilege is being committed there, spilling ale like that. And of course Bugman, who I have. =D

That's my favorite too. It's a 'Space Hulk' diorama. If you like marines and Aliens then you should definately track down a copy of Spacehulk.


I'm usually a bit disappointed by battle scenes- things always appear a bit static but some of these are really quite nice.

I've always been partial to seeing grunts on grunts, those basic infantry dueling it out, like the 4th image. I feel bad for that space marine scout.

I always joked in my local about how tiny gaunts were when compared to warriors and Tyrants, but this image really shows off their size in comparison to other basic infantry.

Well...I suppose he could be...only he is wearing IG flak armour and fatigues instead of carapace armour, and he has an IG canteen. And he's still bleeding - marines dont do that, not even scouts, seeing as the scouts still have the same genetically enhanced stuff that full marines have, without the training. Unless you're a space wolf, I guess! But that would be messing with artistic licence, so that last bit, about the bleeding, doesn't prove anything!

Meh! It still looks awesome either way, don't want you to feel I'm nit-picking. Points for you for posting all this stuff :)

Those are some nice models. The only thing that I'm wondering about is the ammo belt on the burst cannon. Those look like .50 caliber rounds or something to me.

I have a specific appreciation for the beaten up and rusty suit up there. Very nice.

I agree. There's a nice contrast between his war-worn armor and his stance of nobility, which, as you said, suggests that he's looking for more.

I like this one. I think the look of the model as being something that gets in a fight from time to time is well conveyed. It also has a sense of movement about it even though it isn't doing a huge amount. The use of colour such as the blue and the snow helps to give the model's setting a temperature which is good to see, very good at bringing the thing to life.

I have to say that these two are my favourites. The first one is interesting as it uses such bright colours. It reminds me of Flash Gordon and makes me fell all retro. I also had a school teacher when I was in my teens and she wore clothes like that all the time. Plus there is that little bloke looking at us in the corner.

The second one is good too. The pose and the movement of the cloth work well together. The shadows are also top-notch.

I personally would like a model of a little girl screaming or hiding. I could then add here to the base of one of my Tyranids to show her as a member of the 'human herd' in need of eating.

You are right it is morbid but it is fun to eat the lesser races. On the point, does anybody know where to find models of helpless victims ( children, screaming soldiers gone mad, soft vunerable maidens etc ) to be devoured, used as helpless victims etc. 8X

Wouldn't that be something- a guard army comprised of little girls. Actually, it'd be down right haunting, especially if they stared up an the opponent with dreamy, innocent eyes.


Yak, that's not the one, but a great model. The one I'm thinking of has a little girl positioned to the far right side of the base. She's biting her nails or something like that, while the fex scours the top of a cliff, looking for her. A+ for effort though.

The first bloke here is actually Inquisitor scale, however I think that the one beneath has a superior paint job.

The first one is good but seems to be a little plain for a model that size. The second one I think is an Apothecary, that thing on his hand looks like the Apothecary surgical tool thing they have. I think what I like about it is how so many different parts have been added together quite seamlessly on the model. The paint job is good too.

I think you're right about the first fellow- the 'bloke' as you called him (heh, silly Englishmen :) ).

On the second model, this model could have very easily had problems looking too busy, but as you said, the superb paint job and modeling shows no signs of intervention. It looks real good.

The Artemis conversion is quite well done.

I personally would like a model of a little girl screaming or hiding. I could then add here to the base of one of my Tyranids to show her as a member of the 'human herd' in need of eating.

8X Excellent, a helpless victim, and little girl victim no less. I need to find or conver innocent types to be victims. I think that's from Hive fleet Moloch. I will have to go and have an in depth poke at thier bits and pieces.

The model is a very good looking Dakkafex, I like the way it seems to be a kind of assault weapon with big guns on it's back.

This is a great mini. He reminds of of Doc Holiday from Tombstone, with the glasses. It's the way he's looking at his watch that brings about the realism and depth. It leaves me wondering if he's late for something, or whether he's biding his time.

To me it's more like if he is looking at the watch while saying "Your time is up.......now."

Reminds me of the sort of mysterious bespectacled badguy you might see with a bald head in a long, dark trenchcoat at the end of a dark alley in the rain. Kind of a steampunk version of that archetype. Good stuff.

I think he is from Wargames Foundry- they certainly have some similar- maybe the Wild West range?

The pre-ruberic/herecy Ahirman has always been one of my favorites. Its so well done!
