OK, just curious as to what everyone's painting places are like, so lets see them!!

I'll go first, and I have loads of images. I am still lucky to be living at home with a spare room (not for long though!), and I have more or less commandeered this room to be my second bedroom. This is why I have the luxury of so much room and space.

Prepare yourselves!!

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa172/Kuffeh/Random%20Minis/room_8.jpg

The box at the bottom has a tone of bitz in, I also have tools all over the top.

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa172/Kuffeh/Random%20Minis/room_7.jpg

This hold basing materials and actual bases in.

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa172/Kuffeh/Random%20Minis/room_6.jpg

This here is where everything painted goes. The smaller end cupboard if for random and 'display' figures, the larger for armies and storing all the unpainted stuff.

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa172/Kuffeh/Random%20Minis/room_4.jpg

The empty shelf is for the Scions, should I remove them at some point... been in the black bag you can see on the floor since the meet! XD

Nice, Kuffy.

I have to say, that as a chaos player, I'm happy to see Horus' betrayal of the Emperor mounted on your wall.

BTW, you should really finish off those apples. :D

hehe, well I have a fantasy chaos lord on the other wall I didn't photograph. And they were finished! =P

Come on, lets see everyone else's area!

Whilst I have my own study (hurrah) I still haven't rushed out and bought a digital camera(boo). In short I rent a 3 bedroom appartment by my lonesome and have a study/painting area with bookshelves, desk, painting box, lamp lounge/foldout bed. If I can get some quality pics from my phone I shall share, otherwise deal with the description!!!

Oh and Kuffy, whilst I am impressed that you own a Latin dictionary, you need more history books!!!

Well.. One is in my bedroom still. =P But I know, though currently the lack of funds is my downfall there. I'll see to it sometime. -__^ =P

Many years ago my room was once strewn with WD, Codex's posters etc etc and then my A level exams came along and all that went. But heres my desk atm;

My area is tidy, the reason being I am a rather tidy person. I dislike loads and loads of mess and I find I cannot work in such a situation. Or at least cannot work well.

Come on! Less prattle and more showing!! =P

Some interesting layouts so far.... Good thing to know that I am not the only one with clutter! ;) I try to be neat but....

I will try to post some pics tonight... ;)

I love topics like this. It is nice to see how other people do things...

good god, jaffar, how do you get any work done?! ;)
I can't quite talk, my bench looks a lot like that quite often.

I'll post pics as soon as I get digital camera capability again. :P

Well I work in the middle (about 1 1/2 square foot) on top of a layer of wax paper for GS workings, then an old model jet's instructions for cutting, and finally a 5 yr old newspaper which has tripled in thickness due to paint. Oh and somewhere under that is a table :D

Honestly, if there is too much space I get distracted. Oh and go ahead with taking the bulletin board idea Quixote. Great for posting pics for inspiration (if you look to the left you can see this (http://www.coolminiornot.com/111346), which is the only model I consider perfect in everyway).

Jon Quixote
August 3rd, 2007, 09:31
@ Jaffar: Thanks. My normal default choice for placing pics of inspiration is on the clutter to my left. Pinning them up is much more suitable. :)

@Wildgoose: The leaning tower of stuff keeps me on my toes! It's quite stable really, but having a look at all my stuff, it looks like I'm due for a tidy up. Pics of that to follow after the weekend.

Here is my very messy game/hobby room. I was fortunate enough to buy a house that had an extra deep garage. About 2 years ago I converted almost half of the garage into a game/hobby room. Unfortunately it also tends to get used as spillover storage as well. :(

First up is my painting/hobbying area. I was fortunate enough to receive some kitchen cabinets from my mother in law when they got their house remodled. I installed the cabinets and put a piece of heavy duty finished plywood as the top. This gives me durability and a lot of extra storage. Eventually I will probably put up a little shelf on the wall and some cork board/tiles.

http://www.curdledmilk.com/img/forums/game_room/room1.jpg

Here is a closer shot of my painting area (I can't wait to start on the GUO!). It is too hot to paint out here right now - I have fans but no AC so I have temporarily moved into the house (the wife is not happy! :) LOL). But this is where I normally paint.

http://www.curdledmilk.com/img/forums/game_room/room2.jpg

Here is a small spray booth I made and my dremel. The paint spray still spills over but most is contained...

http://www.curdledmilk.com/img/forums/game_room/room3.jpg

I have one of those nice IKEA display cases. I like it but wish it were a little more air tight to keep dust out...

http://www.curdledmilk.com/img/forums/game_room/room4.jpg

Here is my temporary photo booth setup. I am thinking about making a more permanent set up on my painting table - just need to move stuff around to do it.

http://www.curdledmilk.com/img/forums/game_room/room5.jpg

My game table is made from a 4x8 piece of finished plywood. I painted it grey, lightly sprayed with black and stipplied lighter gray over the surface before varnishing it. To make it more GW sized I painted hazzard stripes 1' in on each side to be used for holding books, casulties, re-inforcements, etc... When not used for miniature battles it is predominantly used for my other gaming addiction (dungeons and dragons)... :)

You can see the mess of my shelves in the back... Too many years of collecting gaming junk!

http://www.curdledmilk.com/img/forums/game_room/room6.jpg

More of my game junk. I also store all my mailer boxes out here. I have way too many empty large boxes that just seem to take up room. I should probably throw them away. but you never know when you will need to ship a large amount of stuff... :) (or so I tell myself)...

http://www.curdledmilk.com/img/forums/game_room/room7.jpg

More shelves and my gaming white board. Yes still decorated from a party we had out here for one of my buddies over a year ago!!!

http://www.curdledmilk.com/img/forums/game_room/room8.jpg

The most important feature of the room - A refrigerator! Every good game/hobby room needs one. Filled only with beer and soda (though I do store my GS in the freezer).

http://www.curdledmilk.com/img/forums/game_room/room9.jpg

Here is an older picture of the table cleared of all junk:

http://www.curdledmilk.com/img/blog/table.jpg

http://www.curdledmilk.com/img/blog/table_details.jpg

Thanks for letting me share. I look forward to seeing more of your painting areas/gaming rooms... :)

-Mike

Wow slorak, is that the FW GUO? With all those paints I'm sure it will look amazing!

And my fridge is a good 50ft from my work area to keep spilled drinks out of the picture. I also have weights next to my area to work out while waiting for glue or paint to dry.

I've just changed my hobby area, and moved it into another room, so its still fairly uncluttered at the minute lol. Plus theres some other things I haven't gotten for it yet, like a book shelf. But here it is anyway.

Go right ahead apeironer :) Though I will say that it wasn't my idea at all, I got it from Weetoysoldiers.com (http://www.weetoysoldiers.com/wp/) (Which has some nice idea on actually)

Aye, its two cheapy CD towers.
The trays themselves, are the back parts of old CD cases. (I have a lot of old CDs that I will turn into craters at some point, and so I have a lot of left over CD cases too, lol.)
Its better to use the back parts as the back parts have high lips on two of the sides, which, if you have slight slant on your CD tower, helps to prevent any minis from falling down the back and off the tray. (Though this is a moot point if your CD tower/box has the back to it.)
Also you should worry if the CD tower does have a slight slant to the slots. Mine do, but the slant isn't that much, and so the minis stay where they are anyway.

If you want, I can take some pictures to show you what I mean.

Its a good idea, and helps to keep all the minis that you are working on at the time in one place, and out of the way, so that it doesn't clutter up your desk area :)

Well, I only have one photo for your delectation and delight, as I seem to have much less space than most of you...
=(

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v163/minus-t/closeshot.jpg

Anyway, that is it in a relatively tidy state, all my paints live in that box so I can easily take them around the place (we have a painting table at our club, and I quite often go round mates to paint), and my bits live in whatever I can find for them...

My finished minis either live in my case, or in boxes under the desk at the moment, although I should be picking up an extra bookshelf soon, so may find some space in there...

Keep 'em coming guys!

Here is my painting area

The main paint/convert area itself -

Here is where I put my " I will do this stuff next" or my later small projects; just ignore the boxes to the side, they are going up for sale. Also, ignore the magic cards still can't find a place for them :/.

Here is where un-open boxes, base terrain, bits, and random stuff goes -
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/2593/img1511xq9.jpg

and finally here is where I keep the rest of my full sprues (the other half is in the white container under the paint table in the pic above with the black top). The drawer above the sprues will give you an idea how deep it is :D -

Oh wow your right. I was going to say "Isn't it a pain to have to randomly check pots of paint since you can't see the sides?". Wow that is simple, but I still prefer my turntable thing.

Is that a Serra's Blessing in the middle row of the big piles? Attacking does not cause creature to tap?

Second, the ball is neither a football or a soccer ball. Its what you can call a stress ball. Its squishy and good to crush many times when your stress and to relieve yourself. It just at the moment does not look like that.
