View Full Version : Unlucky units? dasani August 4th, 2007, 10:40 I was wondering what everyone's unluckiest unit was and what situation made you decide that they were unlucky.
Now to be honest I'm a kinda superstitious player, I use weird patterns in my dice when I roll like they have to match up interesting ways, I only have units of odd numbers and I hate my dryads with a fiery passion. They are excellent units that hit really hard and can do lots of damage but I have never played a game with them where they have not failed a leadership test a crucial point.
The situation was not a difficult one, they charge and caused four wounds (it would have been five but the character in the gor unit had a 6+ ward save and actually made it) and fail the combat by 1 because of the enemy's musician. They need 7's to say, I roll an 11 for the first dryad unit and a 12 for the other. This happens every time they need to take a break test so I banished them. Kinda ridiculous but after three battle where they do nothing but kill four or five enemies and break they are dead to me...any similar stories out there or am I just being ridiculous? Krzysio August 4th, 2007, 12:15 i would have to say my eternal guard. they charge, do 7 hits, and end up doing 1 or no wounds, and im super pissed at that. i still use them regardless. also, cause they end up failing ld 9 rerollable tests, and they are stubborn. MisterDutch August 4th, 2007, 22:52 Well I would definately consider my bowmen and Men-At-Arms unlucky. I've played three battles with my new Bretonnian army and so far, they got slaughtered. all of them. every single time.
while my knights charge and win the day (sometimes :P)
But no, I havent yet got enough experience to have some kind of grudge vs. any unit in particular... Stonehambey August 5th, 2007, 20:41 My saurus warriors can't hit a barn door. Ok they have average weapon skill but that is still 4's and they almost always hit below average or, if I'm lucky, average. >.< 2000AD August 6th, 2007, 00:25 My Wight Lord with Sword of Kings in a unit with Banner of Barrows has never lived up to his potential. Always needing 3+ to hit, with 3 attacks and with killing blow on 5+ has only provided one victim so far, an already wounded wood elf noble.
I put this down to my 'karma dice'. A very good roll allways seems to be followed shortly by an equally bad roll (or vice versa). Since my banshee always seems to do very well, this means that come the combat phase my wight lord steps up and fluffs everything. _Toast_ August 6th, 2007, 01:12 I would have to say either my wizard, who loves to lose a spell with a miscast (has happened more times than i can count) or my wardancers, who despite what everybody says never survives to get into close combat. It usually takes one round of shooting to get rid of them. My luckiest would defiantly have to be my wildrider horses and then again my wizard with her bow, who usually kill a whole swack of models by the end of the game. As for 40k, they seem to be average, they usually do what i want, usually cause the damage i expect. I think its cause there are WAY more dice rolls, so it evens itself out. I usually roll 200+ dice a shooting phase. Rabbit August 6th, 2007, 01:17 Nice thread.
I play chaos marines, and all of my lascanons are cursed. Statistically, 2/3 of the shots should land a hit. With my luck, it's usually 1/2. Then, it's typically a 5/6 chance to wound, but for me (again), I'm fortunate to get 2/3. I role lots of 1's with my lascannons. sithjack August 6th, 2007, 01:49 Heh, Rabbit's Marines need the Guard to teach them Sharpshooters.:w00t:
My Dark Angels Whirlwind may just be the most unlucky tank in history. It excels at killing scouts, specifically my scouts. Then during the lovely period before the new Dark Angels codex came out it specialized in scattering minefields over into areas where they did nothing.
At the present it has joined its good friends the scouts in a box while I soothe my injured soul with cheap Pred Destructors. Triumph Of Man August 6th, 2007, 06:18 Hehe, I managed to blow up one of my own whirlwinds with my other whirlwind on Vassal. Katkiller 5 August 6th, 2007, 07:09 My Chaos havocs, most definitly them. They can only truely hit vehicles once all of their guards are dead and there is only one or two left. Then they become tank-destroying gods. Before that.. three misses out of four shots, four misses out of four shots, two hit but did nothing, one hit but did nothing... etc./\ Maneater August 6th, 2007, 13:04 My butcher he does really well until it looks like i might absoultly destroy my opponent and then he miscasts, and always rolls a one on the table auto killing him. Lanrak August 6th, 2007, 13:38 My 2nd ed Hop splat field gun.
16 games NO KILLS AT ALL!!
Mind you my madboys, usualy made up for its poor performance! God octo August 6th, 2007, 16:06 My dryads must have marshmallows for claws, as they rarely wound anything, even after getting lots of hits.
My exorcist has also been rather unlucky. So far it has been blown up in all of my matches, and normally rolls awfully for Armour penetration, meaning it never kills anything. necronoob August 6th, 2007, 16:18 My "sniper squads"(10 dark eldar warriors 2 dark lances) Almost every battle one of them will lose 3 men have to take a moral check and than they run off the table doing nothing. Nachtjager August 9th, 2007, 12:50 My thunderers seem incapable of hitting the broad side of a barn, despite being more accurat than crossbowmen, the crossbowmen seem to hitt far more often. My 20 strong ironbreakers on the other hand are appaulingly lucky, cannonballs and other artillery, seems to whizz by inefectively, enemy casters heads explode if they so much as look at them, enemy generals suffer appauling rolls and flee from the combat, I love those chaps. Artice August 11th, 2007, 04:30 I can't make 3+ saves with my Grey Knights
On 4's to wound with 4 dice, i make none with my callidus, consequently getting killed by failing 3 out of 3 4+ inv saves :D 007Torrasque August 11th, 2007, 05:19 My unit of Desroyers can kill any tank first turn, ANY TANK.
After that, they can't even hit. Period. Not joking.
And of the 100+ Lightning arcs m Nightbringer has shot. 1 has hit, and it didn't even wound. | |
