Here we are, yet another Golden Daemon event has passed:

Now, these I have to say many of the entries I think deserve a really big... "meh". Such as the Gold in Fantasy single miniature, it just looks really bizarre to me and much too busy. But others, look great:

What do you think?

im going to have to agree with ya kuffy. Nothing really caught my eye at all :eh: and im usually dumbfounded by the brilliance of the entires.

its quite depressing =[ I also think that some of the places are a bit mixed up. Such as the youngbloods. I feel the 3rd place winner should have won the catagory. But alas fickle fate.

That entry does seem a bit busy, but it was on the verge of coming together nicely. If only the artist hadn't tried to do so much. The marine painting on the back wall was a nice touch.

My quirky favorite was the Kroot Hunting Sphere. Just curious, but is there any fluff to justify this monstrosity?

Ok it seems I am the first to comment on him... I like what he has done to the black armor and the pale face... yes as Rabbit said the painting of the SM on the wall reminded me something of cavemen...

I think I like it overall...

Well, not as such, but we know they seem to have an inbuilt knowledge of certain tech (somewhat like orks) despite being incredibly primitive in other ways. ie: They are space-faring (warspheres: *link* (http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99110814001&orignav=300808)), but seem to have none of the required infrastructure to actually construct or maintiain such devices (no space stations, no orbital docks, etc etc).

I'm with Kuffy as far as the awards go.
Pretty meh, and some that *seem* to be out of place, but at the end of the day, I have lost all confidence with GWs ability to take a decent photograph, so they might be much better in person.
Very much love the marine you posted though.

Also, that dwarf is incredibly busy and a bit weird, but you can't knock the skill involved. Doesn't mean I like it, but it beats the rest of the entries on pure ability.

I think it's painted well (but I can't paint to save my life so it may not be the best :p), but like what has been said there seems nothing too interesting about it, "oh noes, he's staring at me".

The base though and scenery around him is absolutely brilliant though.

I'm so contradictory....

They are a mixed bag. The Chaos Terminator you picked out there is a good one. The Great unclean one was good too. It is nice to see that model well painted for once.

There were a few, questionable ones. the Dwarf single model was dodgy looking. But in the staff large model section, that Carnifex was having a few problems. I think that when it was being based the painter got some paint on one of it's feet/claw things. Hooves I think they are. I would think that would make it unlikely to get third place.

They were generally good though and it is fun to brouse through well painted models. I wish though that these events weren't so dominated by Marines and Primarchs. Some attention on the other types would be good.

I've had a chance to look through some others and I can't believe that the huge Nurgle retinue didn't win anything!

I think the colours in it are so well done, the mix of purples and greens IMO look really complimentary.

It's fantastically huge but not really that well painted. It's very nice but I suspect the detail work won't be GD standard- and really how could it be on something that big.

Overall a bit disappointing. Some very nice painting technically but nothing that really makes you go 'wow'. The shootyfex in the staff category isn't even that far past good tabletop.

I have to agree about the "shootyfex".

Stil, I wish I could paint that well :P

While the work on display is of a far greater quality than anything I could paint, hardly any of it really has the "wow" factor that I expect to see from Golden Daemon winners. The last few Golden Daemons that I have seen have been pretty much the same. The painting standards may well be very high, but I haven't seen a model that has made my jaw drop in awe, which is a shame.
I do like the entry that Kuffy picked out, though.

I agree that the paint jobs aren't that great considering it's a Golden Daemon competition. Usually the standard of painting is way higher :) Agreed, they look nice and I'm sure the painters have put a lot of effort in them, but still, the GDs usually have better entries.

Still, it'd be nice to be able to paint like that :P
