View Full Version : Hive Fleet Bahumut - Hive Tyrant Clive VS Evil Fairy King Harry

Karmoon

Hey all,

I've been absent from the boards recently for one reason:

2250 points of nids in 30 days.

And I've done it :D

Anyway this thread is about converting a Hive Tyrant and giving him wings.

Now most of you can probably do this in your sleep, but to me, building, modifying and painting a Hive Tyrant is a big deal. And here are the results:

I'd just like to thank:
Jaffar Hassad + Deceiver
-T, Cheredanine, Paint Monkey, Thepaintingmonkey
The guys'n'gals at LO chat

For all their help and support. :C

Right:

My aim was to have a Hive Tyrant lumbering over a defeated and broken and possibly weeping Avatar. The Tyrant, a mere bug in the scheme of the Hive Mind gingerly smashes down the Avatar - the spindly Eldar's last hope against a self initiated oblivion.

Here is Harry (The Avatar):

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/FairyKingdown-study.jpg

Harry being defeated by weetabix
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/DSC00345.jpg

And harry being painted up:

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/Harrystarts.jpg

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/Harrybase.jpg

Here's some crappy freehand i tried - feel free to mock me:

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/Harrycrappyfreehand.jpg

The results:

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/Harry-paintedfinal.jpg

At this point.. I must admit.. I thoroughly enjoyed painting Harry. Every second of it I enjoyed. The Avatar is a great model.

And now Clive...

Clive took a lot of planning. I didn't feel happy with cutting into a £25 model.. I had to make sure that I got him right.. here are some pics:

Here's clive built with magnets in his shoulders:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/clivesshinyshouldersockets.jpg

Magnetising is VERY VERY easy. I'd strongly recommend it to everyone.

And here's a mock up of the final pose:

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/clivestompsonharry-unpaintedstudy1.jpg

Also, I wanted Clive to have a special Devourer, something which marked him differently somehow, so this is what I came out with - a quintiple linked Devourer (take that you WYSIWYG rules lawyers!)

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/clivesshootyarm.jpg

and what it looks like ON clive:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/clivequintiplelinkeddevourer-stu-1.jpg

I just feel that the presence of scything talons makes the model a lot better. With just the stumpy little arms, he doesn't look like he could defeat Harry.

Jaffar Hassad came out with an idea to improve the pipes and the like, when I get better at modelling, I'll try it out:

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/Clive_crappy_edit.jpg

And here's the mocked up final pose there he is next to a Chaos terminator to give you some idea of the beast's scale:

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/DSC00348.jpg

And then finally.. (after dropping Clive and having him smash to bits and then rebuilding him) the ardous act of painting him:

Dry brush a go go baby:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/Clivestage1.jpg

Then I summoned all my courage and stuck him to za base - Stage 2:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/Clivestage2.jpg

I dunno what happened to stage 3.. i think he went out shopping.. he might have taken stage 4 too.. so.. Stage 4 or 5:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/Clivestage4or5.jpg

So.. all that remained were the wings and various final touches - the devourer and what not and voila:

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/clive-lamp2.jpg

1 complete hive Tyrant and I didn't die :D Please notice the gaunt by his feet just so you can see how big he is comparatively.

Just to see how he fits in with the scheme here are some others from the same army:

Carnifex:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/Carnifex3.jpg
and for all you whiners who say that TL Devoureres are better, here's the same carnifex again:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/carni3-devilfex.jpg

Broodlord:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/karmoon/Tyranids/finishedbroodlord.jpg

Thanks for reading.
Thanks for everyone's help.

I'm so happy that I've an entirely painted army!

Fawesome. Pure fawesome. I know the pain of dropping a fully-built, metal converted mini [Daemon Prince] and having to re-build. You did and aweomse job both converting and painting.

chillin out maxing and cooling, watching my mates shoot some B-Ball outside the school!
when a couple of fexes they were up to no good
starting eating people in my neighbourhood.
I got into one little fight and the farseer got scared
"your moving with eldrad and ulthuan to the craftworld of biel tan."

I whistled for a Cab and when it came near
i realised it was a falcon, it had dice in the mirror.
if anything i could tell that this falcon was rare.
but i thought mmm pie, now home to Beil-Tan

i pulled up to a craftworld about 7 or 8
and i yelled to the pilot, homey smell ya later
Looked at my kingdom I was finally there
To settle my throne as the prince of beil-tan

- harry's song!

So where's the other 1700 points or so? Those look great, but I'd like to see the whole army. I definately couldn't do it in my sleep. BTW, the hat is great8X (how is this smilie ninja style?)

I tried repping you for this, except that I couldn't, cuz I already done repped you for something else. Serves you right...making me think about repping you more than once a week. :P

Very good work. That's quite an endeavor. You should be proud. Next time you're in the States, you should swing by Dallas Texas, and we'll have a game, though, I'm not sure how I'd feel about playing another 'loyal' chaos player. Nevermind, you've turn Nid, so it balances out. :party2:

I like Clive. I feel that I already know him.

"Yeah that's instant death on you broodlord"

"I don't think so"

"He's just taken a direct hit from a titan!"

"He's wearing the hat of the emperor!!!"

"Oh..."

Brilliant centerpiece for your army. That's repped.

wooo!

I saw these before and they look great mate. Nice work on the Tyrant's base, a good scenic thing to point him out. =D

One thing I have to say, is that you should now try and get past drybrushing. You should now look at painting properly, using layering and so forth. You do this, you'll be even better!!

I look forward to my Scions wiping those nids out in the sort-of-near future!! =D :C

Cheers one and all for your comments :D

@ Kuffy - i also with to get past drybrushing too, but under the circumstances, I didn't really have any other option. Time and all that.

Actually, I kind of also put my models on dessert style bases, so it'll look really epic when they munch on your sandy based pretty boys. ^__^

@ Rabbit

Don't get me started buddy.. I've already got several locations planned should I do a US tour :p
hopefully one day it'll be a reality.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to mention that this wouldn't have been possible without Macewind's online store's amazing services!

He TOTALLY saved my bacon with regards to getting stuff.

A strong strong recomendation

Dear All Concerned,

Wow, these look amazing Karmoon! Although I saw and heard a bit on chat (http://www.librarium-online.com/chat/) (hint hint), I think these lok amazing! I hope that one day when you do stop in America, you stop in the Philadelphia, New Jersey Area so I can get a game in with you (I finally realized my strategies are not as bad as my painting or dedication, lol). I hope to see much much more, so post more pictures!

I love the wizard hat, BTW.

Well, I maintained all along that Karmoon was a no-hope, no-talent waste of space, and look how he repays me.

Pah.

I say again Moony, pah.

Um. Which all, of course means, very well done, and I can't wait to hear how 2TW goes for you. Get pics of your army on an appropriately coloured board!

PS. You eat them Scions once for me, bud. That dwarf needs teaching (another) lesson.

Bah, such poor behviour from those that are considered stalwarts of the board, fancy taking over Papa Ks thread! wouldnt catch me doing something like that!

K, your achievement -painting 2250 points to such a standard in such a short time, is breath taking matey, spectacular, it saddens me that we are going to have to kill them all in a shorter time :)

clearly you are only considering the tabletop and not the good thumping you nid players will take as you try to exit warhammer world :)

I am aware of that mate, historically at campaign WEs there tends to be more leeway on day 2, however if you nids type chaps are so scared of us that you insist on fighting hairdressers, well ....

Big mistake matey, the psychic cry now echo's through the warp, and a large shadow is answering. The hive will be with you in 4 days. Better batten down the hatches, theres a storm a-coming.

Karmoon
August 29th, 2007, 13:19
A rending storm of doom and joy no doubts :D

hopefully, I'll get some full army shots at the meet. and then I'll post 'em up.

In the mean time, be warned evil pansies and tin cans alike. Retribution and tentacle based justice comes!

Ahh, there you are, I was wondering where you were. Those are good looking. The dark look is good. It looks somewhat shiny and bug-like to me. It's nice to see a painted Hive tyrant, they are rarely seen and the Hive tyrant is a very cool model. The base is good too, scenic bases add alot to a model. The Avatar looking generally distressed and/or upset is amusing.

I like the devourer too. It's look is one of something that has no accuracy but it shoots so much it has little chance of missing, it is also different and new which is good.If I were you I would try to paint thier eyes and make them glow. Bright green would be good and it would only take five minutes.

Also in one of the earlier pictures here is a plastic Terminator with a Chaos marine head, he is interesting.

And big ones:

I'm so happy! I gots me an army! joy joy joy!

I dunno where i'll take the army next to be honest.. probably some more raveners and gargoyles and then a Tyrgon and some more carnifexes.

Anyhow, conrats on finishing an army, this is something many of us still struggle for. But it's good to have something to aim for I guess. Lovely minis mate, "minis" by the way ha! Some of those are more like mediums or even quite-largies. Still very nice though.

Cool, it's very hard to finish a whole army without it becoming a pain. I must finish properly too. You should so get a Trygon, they are very cool. Probably the best FW Tyranid, the details etc are better than you will find on the other Tyranids. It also looks cool.

It also looks cool.

And inflicts pain upon others I reckon. That is always a nice quality for huge space creatures, invading and digesting innocent worlds ,to have.

Isn't THAT the truth of the matter. I have hobby ADD... It SOUNDS GREAT until you're half way collecting them and then my steam runs cold.
I guess that's why I have so many armies in progress... one started right after another.:?
