Wanted to create some really insectoid Vespids. There's a hive built into this models back, yet unpainted: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/HMcCoy/000_5659.jpg

Will update with more pics later.

All C&C appreciated.

Fine work. Any chance of getting a frontal view of the model?

They do look good. I like the colour scheme you have used on these Vespid. They look, as pointed out by another, very much like bees. The wings are good too, the look of them reminds me of bugs, buzzing. If want to add to the insectoid look you could add another set of limbs. Winged insects have eight or ten limbs. You could also try some very faint and very small white stripes and streaks. This would be done to represent hairs as insects are covered in small hairs.

They look great so far mate! Love the colour scheme and your painting is neat and tidy with nice blending (from what it looks like on the pictures)

Well done! I'm looking forward to seeing them finished and based.

Hey thanks for the comments and critiques. Bigger/better pics coming...

@ Leech...I actually considered another set of arma on the strain leader! My vespid box actually came with an extra model, but for the most part the arms are molded to the bodies, with very little room for an extra set. Thanks for the excellent ideas though.

If anyone is interested here's a quick how-to:

First, I separated the legs from the abdomen, and pulled them forward as far as they would go, so the model could have a hunched over look. Then, I cut off the top portion of the head, and GS'd a more insect-like head shape. Also cut off the batwings.

Then I cut off the nub the wings normaly attach to, and drilled a hole in back. Next, stuffed a bit of GS in there and poked some holes in it.

Greenstuffed some wings (lower wing is plasticard) and rolled up some tiny bits of GS for the wasps, and reattached the antannae.

Primed...

Originally this was supposed to have wasps crawling over it, but the little buggers didn't stand out from the skin of the model, so I went with larvae instead. I don't think I'm going to do this on all six. Maybe the fluff will be that its a female Vespid in the process of producing offspring.
