View Full Version : Leman Russ, what colors? aetherguy881 September 1st, 2007, 23:51 I recently bought the Leman Russ model (including Freki and Geri) and I don't know if I should paint Russ with the scheme that I'm using for my Space Wolves, or if I should go with an older tone, like the near ultramarines blue that's in the bitz catalog.
I have all of my paints here, I just want to know if I should paint him like he would be with the old colors. If so what colors and style should I do. Or to try to make him look like he's part of my army, and use the colors that I have.
Why did I buy him? He's cool, I mean who wouldn't want their primarch.
Russ :drinking: Emperor <-- Fist thing I though of when I saw this emote...
Thanks guys. The Daywalker September 2nd, 2007, 06:50 Russ probably would wear more of their preheresy colors, or a different color. If you look at the art from the Horus Heresy big books, you can pictures of russ and pre heresy wolves. I would just use codex grey and other greys not the blueish grey they are now. The pre heresy color scheme rocks the &^%* out of the post heresy scheme. Guant September 2nd, 2007, 23:50 WEll I like greys and blues so I say go with the Space Wolves color scheme. In fact I jsut recently finsihed up a Russ in a slate blue and grey theme, http://www.librarium-online.com/forums/showthread.php?p=997831#post997831 THe blue may not be the right tone for you but its an idea to toy around with. Hope that helps. aetherguy881 September 3rd, 2007, 01:16 What colours did you use for that?
That's almost perfect I guess, 'cept I'd have to say more blue, but not much. Guant September 3rd, 2007, 04:21 Yeah I figured that the blue would be to 'not blue' for you. But I used slate blue on all the armor and the sides of the sponsons and neutral gray everything else. From there I went over the strips with the bolts on them(the ones around the ends of the track guards and on the sponsons) with a charcol gray. Then I washed everything with all my different weather tones. So if you want I just suggest using a lighter blue and youll be good to go.:) aetherguy881 September 3rd, 2007, 04:44 Yeah, as I was browsing through the picture a day thread and I saw the wolf gaurd termies...
All hail the beloved Space Pups!

::: DISCLAIMER:::
None of these models were painted or converted by me.
I like these a lot I like the blending and the overall look. I'm going to try to aim for that.
Now what colors should I use for Freki and Geri? CaptainSarathai September 3rd, 2007, 05:12 i like thise colors alot, but it's really the same as the current scheme. Maybe use the current colors on the whole of the tank, and then put a stripe of the older shade on the front of the tank, with a symbol for Russ or something.
One think I noticed about those models you posted: the guy did all that work, and- true to form- GW lets him down. Can you see the thumbs on those gauntlets? he does all that cutting and weathering, and doesn't think to redefine the thumbs... The Daywalker September 6th, 2007, 03:52 Ok people HE IS TALKING ABOUT THE LEMAN RUSS MODEL NOT THE TANK MODEL If you look at pictures of leman russ you can see what color his armour is, personally i think the model does him no justice because he had a lot more detail to his armor and his hair was different. But I would go with the greys not the blues like the codex grey and brown tones becuase thats what he is shown as wearing in the Big Horus heresy books. aetherguy881 September 6th, 2007, 22:49 Yes, thanks for trying to get them away from the tank. Hopefully they'll leave the vehicle alone. I've also taken a look at the foundation paints, I think I'll use those for a base and an undercoat. If I go with them, I will have to wait to start my painting until either my Grandma goes home or until October Break. Granted I'm in the Wilkes-Barre-Scranton area, I have no way to get to the Scranton GW, not to mention know where it is...
Until then I can keep filing the parts so they are much better than they are. Maybe I'll make him more detailed with some stuff on his shoulders or something. maybe tassels or something. Lel September 9th, 2007, 21:33 honestly, you should just quit space wolves and start an armored company, then you get to paint like, 10 russes! aetherguy881 September 9th, 2007, 22:07 DID YOU NOT READ THE THREAD!?
I have the Leman Russ Primarch model, not the freaking tank!!!!!!!
I'm resisting the noob yelling as much as possible. I just can't believe that people can't take the time to read, let alone if they can read. aetherguy881 September 14th, 2007, 14:28 Well, if my Mom or Dad were able to make it to the hobby shop or the GW, I will be getting a few more paints, inlcuding some of the foundation paints.
I'll try to get some picts up soon. I also expect that once I do get come picts up people will stop talking about the tank... RecklessFable September 14th, 2007, 16:37 I'm debate what colors to paint my Russes as well. I'm tired of the whole grey thing. But they are wonderful tanks!
