View Full Version : Need help with generic all mounted brets.. Villa November 8th, 2007, 07:18 Hmmmm..... I am GREATLY interested in an all mounted army (maybe 1000pts?) Do you guys have like a list of a generic one that I could see what works?
I was thinking something along the lines of:
6 kotr
6 kotr
6 kotr
2 paladins
3 pegasus knights
Any good? The huge problems I find with this is there is a lack of magic defense, lack of units and flanks are sooo exposed. Thanks guys. =) Phoenix November 8th, 2007, 13:49 If you are going for an ALL mounted force, personally i think its best to go for a MSU (multiple small unit) army, especially at 1K.
Id say take FC on all uits except Pegasus, they dont really need it.
Note, they are more efective and generally less prone to warmachine injury if you DONT use lance with small units.
Units to definitely consider:
6 Errant Knights with FC and Errant Banner.
2 Units of 5 Realm Knights, one with Genaral and one with BSB
Unit of 3 Pegasi.
possibly some mounted yeomen for fast cav, they can come in handy tactically, just 5-6 of these.
Try and keep your Characters Cheap too, though it is nice to have a BSB with the Duty virtue AND warbanner. Keep your general pretty basic though, unless you can afford to splash out on him a bit, in which case i recommend the BS of Carcasonne, and maybe virtue of Confidence (i think, the one for no outnumbering) Everhard III November 8th, 2007, 15:07 Yes you will be vulnerable to magic, I suggest take a lvl 1 damsel with a dispelscroll. You can make her the general if you don't want 3 characters and since all your knights have ld 8 it doenst matter that much unless using errant knights ofcourse.
About your flanks being exposed, you can counter that with some mounted yeomen of bowmen skrimishers (but then it wouldn't be all cav lol)
I agree completely with deceiver he pointed out some good ideas for all cav.
If you find your self missing a hard hitter (although 6 knights have a good impact) you can try and use a small unit of grailknights (3-6), in 1k that would most likely kill anything in it's path. CaptainSarathai November 8th, 2007, 15:58 I play Brettonian (granted, not all cav) and also played an all cav HE list before the rules change (DAMN YOU GW!!). The lists function about the same.
Your best bet IS the MSU army, with a frontage of 6 you tend to get plenty of hits in. I'd keep the army cheap with lots of KOTR and Errants, no real need for Questing knights (they suck) or Grail Knights.
When it comes to being flanked, try to remember that you are cavalry, and should always be the one doing the flanking. The only things that will flank you on the move, will be enemy fast cav. And they are easily negated by rushing up each side of the board in a "pincer" motion. Once you are in combat, sure, they may flank you- but I'd rather have 4 units of Errants in combat and one get flanked, then only have 3 units of errants and a unit of yeomen sitting around waiting to counter-charge.
Use mass charges, 2 of your units against 1 of theirs, and make sure you line up the charges so that when he breaks or you overrun, you are safe from any retribution. buckero0 November 8th, 2007, 20:51 at 1000pts, I'm not sure you need the scroll caddy. there's not enough power dice to roll the really high spells and you still have a chance to dispell the smaller spells with 2 dice. Plus by turn 2 you will be charging. There aren't that many spells that can hurt you (you have super armor and a ward save)
I would highly recommend a unit of yeomen with musician Villa November 22nd, 2007, 10:08 Hm.. ok thanks guys...although are errant knights necessary? I don't like the fluff behind them and I find helmetless knights funny-looking. Phoenix November 22nd, 2007, 14:54 Theey arent compulsry, its you list so you can take what you like. They are recommended because they can get S6 on the charge and they are Immunr to Psychology on the charge also. They can be great for charging large monsters and any fear causing unit really. Its up to you though, if you dont like them the dont take them.
If its the look of the model thats putting you off, you could always just give them the basic helmets, or even helmets with decoration if you want. They dont have to be helmetless DavidVC04 November 24th, 2007, 04:25 [Dryads stalk down Knigts of the Realm and pounce on them when they draw too near the forest.]
As per the other thread, research the army lists forum and post some ideas of your own there. Thanks.
