What the hell is going on in that cover?
Its madness, looks like the old 1st/2nd edition pics..
Really corny and just silly.
Are they trying to move away from the darker vision they created in 3rd.4th edition?

that is so so oh so horrible!!

It's not that the art itself is bad....well....anyway, the real problem is that it's just too cartoony and goofy, going away from the whole dark thing we've had going for a while, which I happen to like about 40k.

Well, Black Library can be a good butt of a literary joke sometimes, so it follows... that this isn't, and they are absolutely serious. :| This bodes not well.

Seriously, looking at the dread I'd assume the cover, or at least some of it, is Iron Warriors. (hard to tell, due to the MASSIVE amount of monotone colour. GO generic grey Marines and/or Chaos Marines!)

It looks like they went and got one of their old 2nd edition artists and let them have a second go at it....

What kind of anthology can they make with just csm? They have storm of iron and the word bearers book, but what else?

Kindof childish, almost like a kid not even in his teens drew it, with lots of flashy things and bright colours. Finally, covers that match the literary quality of the stories themselves!

I've been thinking about it, and I just can't believe it. Having this cover is just too much of a backslide from the quality covers they usually have.

Words escape me. The artwork takes me back to the 40k of my youth, which is kind of fun, but also feels like de-evolution. I just keep thinking
That sky is going to feel a lot safer in a few seconds after those ammo belts run out. (Maybe the sky. His arm is pointing up, but I'm not quite sure what's going on with that bolter.)
It was awfully nice of someone to stack cogs and skulls so perfectly for this guy to pose on top of. I'll bet this marine has his own props crew following him around for whenever he wants to strike a pose.
Biggest shoulder pads EVER! Twist wrong and he's likely to have his capa de-tated! If I were him I would wear the helmet just to keep my armor from killing me.
But hey, he's wearing a loin cloth. There is definitely something to be said for modesty.With just enough scale and perspective problems to nauseate me somewhat, this cover art makes me wish I had two extra hands so I could give it four thumbs down. :X

This makes me laugh... i wouldn't dare read this out of fear someone sees me holding the book and asks me why im holding a childrens novel:P

I'm not an artist but that really is appalling. It looks like some high-school attempt at sci-fi art. That would be embarrassing to be seen reading. Shocker.

Well..

I really like it. I love all this kind of 2nd Edition art. I think it's interesting to see 40k's roots.
So I'll give it a thumbs up for every thumbs down it's gotten so far. :)

You know the Black Library should really save some money up for some real artists and stop raiding middle school art teacher offices.

Oh, and I just threw up a little in my mouth.

I think it looks awful too, I draw a bit, and most of it is warhammer and although I'm not as good as some of the other people I've seen in my time, I could draw circles around that! (Sorry but i found that particular phrasing funny) There is a few other artists I'm not too fond of either, there is a drawing in page 60 of the new chaos codex that is just sickening how that guy got his job. I KNOW I could do better than that.

That is clearly not a space marine. Firstly, he's skinnier than I am (And that's saying something) Secondly Why does he have spiky sewer pipe corners on his shoulders? And what the bleeding hec k are those guns? They're clearly not bolters, so what are they? And their grip is facing the wrong way. That must be damned uncomfortable toi hold

To me it looks like termies on the right and maybe scouts or ig on the left, with a dreadnaught for support. but its still terrible, as you said the grip is the wrong way and the giant gaultlet on that hand makes me think he wanted a power fist there, but couldnt get the fingers right for a gun so he scraped it.
