View Full Version : LN's WM Menoth Blog Tulugaq November 9th, 2007, 14:48 "Everyone else is doing it..." Peer pressure - sometimes a positive thing.
Well, unbeknown by all of you (except -t), I actually started Warmachine some time ago. Like... maybe almost a year. However, that doesn't mean I actually played it... or assembled the models... or even really read the book.
So, here I am, looking at Hordes, and getting into a WM mood as well. Thanks a lot, -t.
I currently only own the Protectorate of Menoth Battlegroup as well as the Prime rulebook, and I plan on getting into Hordes (Circle) before I expand it, as I have no grasp on the rules and I want to find someone to learn it with first. Funny thing is, though, is that I love Warjacks, and my favorite all-time Warjacks are the Khador 'jacks... however, I already own the Menoth group, so I don't feel like wasting my money. Besides, they make a fantastic enemy for Circle (fire-happy zealots vs. tree-hugging druids).
Anyways, I'll update this as I go, assembling and painting and playing and brainstorming my ideas. Here's my force so far:
High Exemplar Kreoss
Crusader Warjack
Repenter Warjack
Revenger Warjack
Like many others here on LO (all five of you) who are playing WM/Hordes, I'm trying to play solely on a models-I-like basis as opposed to what's the most competitive thing out there. I think games are just more fun like that, especially something like WM/Hordes, where it seems that a lot of the cool looking models actually are good!
Here's a list of units and models that I plan on eventually collecting, based solely on their merits as models (i.e., they look awesome to me):
High Allegiant Amon Ad-Raza
Vanquisher Warjack
Castigator Warjack
Reckoner Warjack
Devout Warjack
Deliverers
Temple Flameguard
Monolith Bearer
Sunburst and Crew (they're Deliverers after all)
Daughters of the Flame
Flameguard Cleansers (maybe)
So, that's all for now. Whenever I can get an update to you all (maybe this weekend, if I'm lucky and feel like assembling/painting my models... need to learn how to pin, or if I even need to with WM models) make sure to check back here. tarzen November 9th, 2007, 17:36 Awesome!
Can i just ask, what's up with the name change?
Ok, back on topic, glad to hear that you've decided to unshelf the heavy metal.
Gotta say, that's one great thing PP has going for its model line, is that each model/unit is useful and can win the game by itself. Swap in another caster and now your whole army plays entirely different, even though everything else is the same.
That said, yes, somethings are a little more powerful (legion and cygnar cav), but across the board they all fight right in. And each faction has a great collection of models.
As to pinning, gotta say, not too many of the stuff I've seen requires it. Yes, you can make your jacks and warbeast neigh indistructable, but it's usually not required. now sculpting and GS work usually IS necessary to a small degree, but nothing too fancy. LN has never really represented me very well, so I figured an original name of mine that played an important part of my life a few years back would be a good choice for consolidating all of my net identities into. :)

Sounds good for me, then. I can probably manage some "good enough" GS work. I've never pinned in my life, so I wanted to avoid it. Blood_Blade November 9th, 2007, 18:31 Yay!! Lost Nemi... I mean Acrydon (Your name has returned to normal LN!!!) is playing Warmachine (and posting in the PP section here, which is the big thing in my books). But whats this?!? You have aspirations into HORDES (and stealing my future faction at that). This will not be tolerated... unless you provide pics... or even even if you don't, go for it :P
I'll second the comment about non pinning-ness, as I've assembled 3 khador 'jacks without any pinning and "they strong like ox." Hope to see lots of activity in this Blog, and I'll help with that when I can. theyak November 9th, 2007, 19:50 BUDDY! WELCOME to PP games!
So, so far I've pinned EVERYTHING that I've bought. Any time I have multi-part pewter, it gets a metal rod right up its... ok... never mind.
He's right about GS though, I don't know about the warjacks, but the hordes guys.... have gaps the size of the grand canyon. Tulugaq November 9th, 2007, 20:50 So, pinning seems like something that is optional, but not really needed at all. So, not for me! :)
I'll get a Hordes blog setup once I actually own Hordes models (which sounds like it will be sooner than you, Blood - maybe about a week). theyak November 9th, 2007, 20:53 So, pinning seems like something that is optional, but not really needed at all. So, not for me! :)
until your model falls over and it explodes...... ;) tarzen November 9th, 2007, 20:55 until your model falls over and it explodes...... ;)
Not if you have enough paint on them. If you go a solid twelve or thirteen layers, you won't even have to glue them, they become quite posable too;) Blood_Blade November 9th, 2007, 22:25 Not if you have enough paint on them. 12!!! 13!!! I have a minimum of 34 layers on a model (and thats for shadows). At this point you don't really need a model any more, you could have started out with a ball of play-do and no-one would be the wiser. But its the thought that counts!

It doesn't matter when you buy them, I SAW THEM FIRST THEREFORE THEY'RE MINE!!! Any questions :C Tulugaq November 9th, 2007, 22:30 It doesn't matter when you buy them, I SAW THEM FIRST THEREFORE THERE MINE!!! Any questions :C
When did you see them? ;) Blood_Blade November 9th, 2007, 22:55 When did you see them?
September 20th... 1901*!!!
*1901 = this year Tulugaq November 9th, 2007, 22:56 September 20th... 1901*!!!

Well, I saw them when they first got released.... technically... theyak November 9th, 2007, 23:02 Yeah, well I have ESP, and I saw them BEFORE they got released. :P
In the dawn of time, my consciousness spanned all. minus_t November 11th, 2007, 09:05 Ha ha, look what I made Acrydon do...
Also, I thoroughly reccomend pinning.
I didn't pin the arm on my warpwolf, thus, first game I played with him, he didn't have it attached after transit. Pinning ftw.

Hmm, sound advice for us Circle players *tries to block out Lost Nemesis* yep, just us Circle players. Tulugaq November 11th, 2007, 19:10 Hmm, sound advice for us Circle players *tries to block out Acrydon* yep, just us Circle players.
I decided before you, fiend!
Well, -t, sounds like you'll have to teach me how to pin, too... :party2: NiteRabbit November 11th, 2007, 20:11 Well, good to see that you've joined the online sensation. I still think you're playing the wrong faction (Cryx ftw) but I think I can overlook it because we don't have that many people here at the moment. Amon Ad-Raza is indeed an awesome Warcaster. But anyway, I will be watching your progress with great interest. Tulugaq November 11th, 2007, 21:28 Well, good to see that you've joined the online sensation. I probably would have gone Khador, to be honest, if I didn't already own the Protectorate box. So, since there are some Warjacks I like, and most of the infantry, I figured, eh, may as well. The jacks aren't really as cool as the Khador jacks, though. NiteRabbit November 11th, 2007, 21:58 If I were going with Khador, I would absolutely get Karchev. As a concept, he's just too cool. Granted, I don't feel terribly strongly about Khador so I'm probably not the best one to comment here. But if you don't like Menoth, then you could probably sell off the jacks as they're quite good ones and Kreoss is still a tournament favorite despite being one of the first casters released, so I'm sure you'll find takers. I'm still looking for a way to get rid of my guys so I can buy more Everblight stuff... | |
