Sweet! They are making the only specialist game that I refuse to look over the rules for because it looks so silly. Where is my BFG game?!

Nice find though.

Nice. Blood Bowl is kind of silly, but also a lot of fun. I've been hearing rumors of a Blood Bowl video game for a while now. Hopefully it's true to the miniatures version.

Not like it's a new thing. There was one Blood Bowl PC game already, way back in the early 90's

What was that all about? Blood Bowl is not silly. In fact it is one of the better games that Games Workshop have released. The real problem BloodBowl faced was that once you had purchased a team or two there was little or no commercial value left in it for the company. When you collect Blood Angels you will buy bits a pieces here and there to add to your collection. Once you have 25 or so players to choose from you are pretty much done when it comes to Blood Bowl so the game inevitably got shelved in favour of more profitable lines like Warhammer and 40K.

But there is nothing wrong with the game itself. The mechanics are very good, with a set of rules that is very easy to learn and quite tough to master. The teams managed to be very different without destroying the competitive nature and the fluff was some of the best GW have ever produced.

This game is anything but silly, and yes there was a video game developed but it is so old now that most of use would consider it comparable to Pong in terms of quality.

Oh and in case you are wondering I played Dark Elves, The Naggaroth Nightmares if anyone remembers them.

Blood Bowl was certainly more lighthearted than straight WH or 40k but in those days, it all was.

But you are right, BB was more of a board game, and so the variety, add ons etc weren't as commercially profitable as the core subset. Like Hero quest (which i love), it doesn't do that well on expansion. See the current Apocalypse, try that with BB! 8X

ive never played blood bowl but ive heard it is a light hearted barrel of laughs, wich is needed these days as all my mates in warhammer are powergamers and way to competitive.

also Jon Quixote, i too love hero quest, have you tried warhammer quest? it is just as fun i assure you =]

Turn Based Sports game on the DS?
May have to have a look.
Never did get into Blood Bowl, but the concept interested me.
Also its nice to see death sports games coming back, I miss them.
Speedball 2, Mutant League Football, etc..
All great fun

Sounds awesome. I know my local game store has a Blood Bowel League in its 2nd season. Haven't joined because I'm still building my 40k army.

No, but I've heard of it. Also Dungeon Quest (I have some of the models but never played).

I'll have to have a look into it. Thanks. 8X

Who said the video game will be turn-based?
I am excited.

edit: after viewing some videos found through the site, i came to the conclusion that the game will indeed be turn-based.
which is a pity. a real sports game based on bloodbowl would be cool. trading players, assembling teams, leagues.. yeah, maybe even a franchise could start. EA would jump that bandwagon for sure.
Bloodbowl 2008.
EA Sports, it's in the game.

Turn based could be cool
I really enjoyed blitzball in FFX
A 'live' sports game would be good too, but wouldn't be as close to the original game.
they could always release a proper sports game at a later stage anyway..
I play my DS on the bus, so turn based games that do not require pin point accurate stylus control is something i like..
And you could still do all the stuff like trading players in a turn based game.
I wonder will you still be able to use the cheer leaders?

I am playing Dungeon Bowl at the moment, it uses Blood bowl rules and the tile set and doors from Warhammer quest.

Rules were in an old white dwarf, sorry cant remember the issue number.

For those of you who would like to play Blood Bowl on the PC i reccomend giving Chaos League a go- its a RTS sports sim of a very blood bowlesque game- i read somewhere that it was originally going to be a Blood Bowl official title but never panned out as an official GW title- you can pick it up cheaply with the Sudden Death expansion, pretty good graphics, fairly easy to play (when youve got the hang of it!) and very funny commentry

BB non competitive? Don;t know what kind of people you are playing with, but some of the BB players I have met are the most competitve players ever. The fact that it is very easy to see if youare successful or not (non of that victory conditions stuff, just nice and clean TDs) makes for very competitve environment.

I still think BB is the best game they ever produced. In fact it is so good that it is still being supported. The fans simply wouldn't let it die. that is why they constantly review it.
The main problem with it is that you really need a league to appreciate the game and the learning and injury system and for many people it is a problem to keep a league going.

I am looking forward to this one.

Hmm... Now they have BB out... Maybe a Necromunda fps? Now that would be interesting. Well, more interesting to me...

However a BB video game would be more fun than arguing over who's the better nfl team. And we won't have to deal with Paton from the Pats. 8Y

I for one will be a very happy bunny :drinking: Only thing I'll miss is screaming 'ILLEGAL PROCEDURE' whenever your opponent forgets to move his turn marker....
