Hey guys, How are we?

I hope your all having a good X-mas and will also have a good New Year :)

Now, i have a minor decision to make, Trivial to some of you but i am a bit indicisive at the best of times :p

Anyway, the Big Man in Red got me the new GW Hobby Tool Kit :party2: which i was glad to have recieved, however, i am wanting to start a new army, mainly so that i can make use of my new tools 8Y

With a Guard army just gone to a Temporary 1500pts, i am thinking of grabbing a few bits and pieces that will give me 'New Light' in the 40k Universe :)

Having been an Imperial Player for quite a while now i was thinking of maybe going Xeno? I'm not too keen on Tau, with the Battlesuits looking far too... Bulky for such a Tech advanced race.

So, if any of you guys have any pointers as to where to start, it would be much appreciated :)

I'm not too keen on repetitiveness either, such as metal models, with the exception of SoB's but anyway, sorry to have bored you with yet another 'What Army' Question :z :rofl

Cheers and... Merry X-mas
Shaabhekh

EDIT: I am tempted in starting Fantasy, having had the Rulebook sitting on my shelf for a while now, so poking me with a spear in that direction wont end in a definite failure :p so bring it all on :)

I say play Necrons because they are robots or Eldar because they are not robots. Also with fantasy play ogres because they are big n easy.

Go for a combat army instead of playing another shooty army. A world eaters army would be sweet. I would always recomend fantasy for anyone, the new high-elves are pretty tasty now.

To be honest the best advice i can give is to start an army which you liken the look of. Its how i made my decisions, Necrons, Tomb Kings and Beasts of Chaos. Just use the reverse logic you used with the tau suits lol.

This is probably a lot easier if you decide to start Fantasy, (a batter game in my opinion so id have to push you that way) as the armies are so varied in looks, and much more customisable.

How good of a painter are you? That is also something important to look at when deciding an army.

I think it's best to consider the actual make up of your army. Since it's IG, as Zenith suggested, it's probably shooty, so go with something dramatically different, like a close-combat army.

Or, you could go with an Inquisition army and make life more interesting by occasionally inducting squads from your IG list and vice versa. I think that'd be a lot of fun and give you many opportunities for some cool conversions and be able to use a variety of different army lists.

sit back and think about the army you most daydream about , it's probably the right one for you.

Well, if you're looking to go Xeno, and you want something that's the tactical opposite of the ig, how bout Orks? They're assaulty enough to present a new challenge, the new codex and models are out/coming out, and you probably have lotsa Imperial bits to help convert stuff!

Thanks Guys,

Cheers for all the feedback ;Y

I have currently decided to think about it a wee while longer, but im looking into High Elves/Fantasy because of a few things.

I think that starting Fantasy could be the way to go, in a sense, because i would be learning new rules and getting to grips with new armies, so buying a huge force wouldnt be necessary, and since im gonna be saving my money, i think a small Battalion force and the odd regiment too would be a great place to start, that way, my models/army would last a bit 'longer' so to speak :)

But cheers for the help :)

Nice choice. I would recommend sword masters because all the new high elves stike first, even with 2h.

Uh... 40k to fantasy... in my experiance bad idea. I still have a 2000pt fantasy army laying on my shelf collecting dust. IN my experiance, Sci fi is more interesting and its best to stick to what you know. well just my experiance, you might end up being disapointed thats all im saying.

Maybe play orks, they just got a new codex and there pretty different from IG. I WOULD HAVE SAID play tyranids, but thier no fun, now are they... *suddenly a carnefex rounds the corner* Oh god please dont eat me:0

Enjoy fantasy if you want to try it out. It helps to have friends that play it or somewhere in the area you can try it out. High elves seem to be quick and combat oriented with good magic, so a nice army to start with. Good luck!

Haha :) well im sticking with a Core army for now, while i learn the rules and paint it all up etc.

I am aware that i could be disappointed :/ which is 1 reason why i feel like sticking to 40k, but i do have a club i can go to and watch the Pro's at work b4 introducing myself and my army :)

Best get studying the Rulebook eh? cant learn anything form nothing!

I did actually think of going for Orks, restart my Warband again and hope it gets further than 12" over the board :p but i dnt know.... :0

It really depends, if you live where no one plays fantasty, ( i mean no one) than dont do that. I personally love fantasy, i think its much more rich ( i dont want a response, but its the 40th millenium and were still using treaded tanks, bullets, and machine guns...)but thats just my oppinion, if you have a 40k army already, i would say go for a fantasy army, because its a completely different game and experience

Although: i would say this from my experience
Fantasy is more complicated than 40k, there are many more odd and quirky rules that you need to use to your advantage. You cant just sayill have unit A kill unit B, but if you deployed off, and you move wrong, Unit B will kill Unit A, its a different style of play. Also, moving in fantasy take longer, and is much, much more precise, and that where the game is most important. No other is phase is as important. The problem i find, is that there are alot of small trivial rules, that give flavor to the game, but against bad people, they dont know the rules, but, often the people who do know the rules are over competitive.
but this can apply to 40k to in some sense.

All im saying is that it depends on two thing,
1) wether or not you have competent people to play against , that is surpisingly hard for me, and 2) if you like the ideas of fantasy. either way, its your decision to make

Well if Dark Eldar were up to date with Rules and Models, then there would be NO contest as to who i'd go for :)

But that cant be... at least for a while.

Hmm, i will give it some more thought, i really dont wanna go buying a load of stuff and have it put aside after a few days... :?

I had some ideas for a Chaos army just recently (40k) but kinda died out with the whole 'similarities' as Marines and colour schemes etc :/

Im basically just after something that i will enjoy gaming with, that i can Theme along the way.

For example: my High Elf Noble, wouldnt have had any Real war experience, but had proven an adept student whilst studying, so, he gets sent to relieve a garrison over in the Old World and to basically learn about command and leadership etc, (just as i would be learning the new rules and getting to grips with it all etc)

However, i cant really seem to get that kind of 'feel' with 40k - i can see Orks/Chaos Warband doing similar but somehow i just cant seem to connect with it all :/

In your opinion(s) which game is better for playing a game at a club once a week, and maybe grabbing a game at home with your Bro? i personally think Fantasy is a more... time consuming game and might not be worth getting all that stuff, just for the 1 off game or 2 :/ although im not really bothered about getting as many games as i can, i just want a 'project' to actually acomplish!:0

I dont think you will be disappointed by Fantasy. I hope not atleast. Its a personal opinion, but i find Fantasy to be far better game. Its more tactical and requires a lot more thoght to play. From the beginnings of your army Construction, to how you use it on the table top, it all comes down to how you play.
If you want to anjoy a more challenging and fun game, then i think Fantasy is your thing.

Yea i think im gonna go Fantasy, and actually put some effort into making it easier to learn and to enjoy it :)

Thinking High Elves but possibly Vampire Counts, gonna tinker on that before i decide, but HE looks promising :)

Cheers Guys for the help :)

Well, i went and bought the Army Book and a box of HE Spearmen :) have assembled them and am already looking forward to the Battalion box i plan on getting sumwhere along the next few days :)

i just need to tweak my fluff, and grab an idea of an army, which is gonna be rather Core to start with.

this is what i have got planned so far for my 1000pts force (roughly)

HE Noble (possibly on steed with rather basic and mundane shizz)

2 regiments of 15 Spearmen

1 regiment of 16 Archers

8 Silver Helms

1 Eagle Claw Bolt Thrower

and finally, 5/6 Shadow Warriors (to give me an something other than pure Core :))

i will probably add to my army based on my needs to win games better etc, but also try and keep inline with any theme/fluff i ahve going :)

Blatantly getting a mage asap, but nothing more til ive assamlbeed gmaed adn painted the majority of my army :)
