Let the battle Commence!

PLEASE NOTE: All board edges and turn orders will be determined randomly!

This will be a Gamma level take and hold mission using the infiltrate, deepstrike, and victory point special rules. natlav will have the south board edge and the second turn while tekore will have the north board edge and the first turn.

In the red corner coming in with 2k pts with a list chock full of power armoured goodies is the person that actually rivals Chuck Norris in terms of pure beardiness… *is suddenly and violently roundhouse kicked to the face*, TEKORE!

Generals of the above armies, please post your tactics for the battle as soon as you are able!

My plan here will be simple, to support (with the Dev. Squads) the assault squads and Librarians forward into the center of the board, followed by the tactical squads dropping there. Using the trees and my two large drop pods as cover, I will then use the assault squads and Librarians with their force weapons to countercharge into any Chaos that attempts the middle. The choke point and my speed should work to my advantage as I can take that position and then hold onto it until the end of the game. I have large squads that can take some losses in the choked cc corridor there while the turns whittle away.

Wow, I wish we could really see this one played out. This would be a spectacular battle with losses (on both sides) left and right. I am waiting for tactics from Karmoon. But man....what an awesome death match.

Oddly enough I think I can see the deciding factor of this game being the fact that obliterators have powerfists. They can't be stopped by anything the marines throw at them and will be firing for pretty much the whole game. Devastators however will have real problems surviving. The fact that its take and hold means they can walk up the centre of the board, sit on the objective and win the game.

Lash of Submission should also excel here...screwing with the devastators and pushing people aobut (pushing things into the forests for difficult terrain should be effective.

I'm inclined to vote Karmoon for now, I'll here his tactics though and Tekore's rebuttle.

A tricky match up.
Against a good list with a good general.
His havocs will be lethal against my marines.
I'm fully aware that two psychic hoods will be trouble some for my sorceror's lash and also his force weapon.

Drop pods also make him great at securing the central area, which is of course the objective of the game.

Additionally, our unit count is similar.. so it promises to be a bloody and brutal match.

That said, I actually have more plasma cannons and indeed long range fire power than Tekore :D

So, my tactics for this turn would be as follows:

The obliterators would actually begin on the field, and creep/plasma cannon/las cannon their way through any long range fire power at first.

To my advantage, I also have the missile launcher havocs who tip the firepower fight heavily in my favour. 5 obliterators and a havoc squad will easily out shoot two devastator squads - especialyl in a MEQ Vs MEQ battle.

The CSM and Raptors make cautious advances up the field. Once again, Tekore will not really be able to give these guys attention from his devs, unless he wants to not shoot my heavy weapon assets.

Remember, cover works both ways. And if the forests are area terrain, then a lot of the field will not be visible - which puts advantage in movement. Something my oblits can do, and his devs cannot.

Both the raptors and CSM have devastating weapons against MEqs.. and my CSM out range his Space marines due to the plasma gun.

The IoS on the raptors will be brilliant this round, and what I'll do is add the sorceror to a group of raptors and treat him as an extra Aspiring champion. Basically, if his lash works, then it's a bonus, if it doesn't, he's still a 4/5 attack power weapon @ init 6.

Ok,

so with these odds, it looks to be an even and bloody battle.. so what pushes it in my favour?

Deepstriking terminators.

10 terminators deepstriking, all with combi plasma/melta - they are meq slaughterers.

So, even if I don't clear the central objective of Tekore's forces (which is unlikely) I think the terminators will both aid my scoring unit count in the objective area, and also reduce many of Tekore's units to below scoring.

Even if Tekore chooses to play it safe, and stay back, I still have the long range fire power advantage to fight the battle on my terms - and then sneak into the objective last minute.

Holding an objective and maintaining it is a brutal task to perform. I think as the aggressor, I'd gain serious advantage.

I think as the aggressor, I'd gain serious advantage.

Something we both think, doodle!

With your hanging back, I would hope to, as I stated before, rush up to the middle with my squads and drop my pods there. With the cover then looking like so:

W///////Rocks///////////W
o///Pod////////////////// o
o///////Center////////////o
d//////////////////Pod////d
s////////Rocks////////////s

Drawing that was way too much work, and now that I've posted, it takes aways the spacing, hrmmm. Anyway.

I think that heavy weapons would have a hard time firing in effectively (and if they get close they risk CC with my monstrous CC powers), and while deepstriking terminators are indeed terrifying, I think my plan to clog up the already clogged middle area would make deepstriking a risky and potentially deadly venture.

Anyway, Kar, it's a pleasure to play against a talented (if ruinous) general like yourself, and after this post, I plan on not posting on the thread again and let the votes happen. I haven't had a battle with two lists and terrain before that really struck me as a potentially great game, but this is it. Should be a fun one!

Aye, looks like you rely on those deepstrike pods, and I rely on deepstruck terminators.

A late result is bad for you, and an early result is bad for me.

Gotta love deepstrike :D

I think Kardoodle has this match, the deepstriking plasma toting termis were the deciding factor for me. Sure Tekore has the pods coming in but they are not carrying anything that is really a threat to Doodle while 10 guys with 2+ saves rapid firing plasma will knock out around 2 squads worth of marines all on its own.

I'd really love to see this played out for real. Sure would be bloody.

Hmmm... Tekore is certainly gonna get an early tight grip on the objective. But how long can he hold it? I think Karmoon is well equipped, and on the right track, to break that grasp.

Kardoodle, ftw

I also will be voting for Kardoodle this round. I think the Obliterators (added with the ML Havocs) as well as the Deep Striking termies will help him win the game. Though the Lash Sorcerer would normally help out a lot, the Psychic Hoods are going to make relying on him a very bad idea.

It's a ripe fine blood clash. Kore's list is solid, as is Doodle's.

I think Kardoodle has this match, the deepstriking plasma toting termis were the deciding factor for me.

I second this. The sheer number of rapid-firing plasma guns will literally turn the tide in a single round. Doodle has the heavy hitters, and while Kore's assault squads w/ their librarians will heckle the bananas out of Doodle's raptors, the fact that Doodle starts with his troops on the table basically allows him immediately reinforcement into c.c.. I'm also concerned with the staying power of Kore's devastators. One good round will send them packing back to the Emperor (false as he is ;)).

I don't like going with the crows, but I vote Doodle.

In the end, I can see this match being close, but as stated above, the deciding factor is that doodle can drop in 10 very nasty, rapid firing, armour ignoring troops in. As long as they rapid fire, the will crucify even the strongest units.

Kardoodle ftw

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. I am Tekore sir, not Kore (although Kore's good people, so I can't say something really mean). Sheesh, must be those weird pink rabbit eyes.

I'd expect it will be very close, but in the end I don't think Tekore has the numbers to hold on to the centre. Karmoon FTW.
