| View Full Version : Which Army? Reno April 7th, 2004, 17:43 Hi i'm a newbie to warhammer 40k and i'm not sure which army to collect. I want one that has a lot of snipers which aren't too expensive and look good. Please help me. T10 April 7th, 2004, 17:54 Well, there aren't many, if any armies full of snipers. So, I'm going to presume that you want an army that can shoot from long range and is the king of guns. If so, you'd like the Tau. They have basic weapons of 28" I think, I think that the models look good, they have a quite high-tech feel to them, and they aren't overly expensive. Does that help? Pandora April 7th, 2004, 18:01 The Eldar have a M0stly Snipers Army.... N0t 0nly that, but their Snipers are the best in the game. Reno April 7th, 2004, 18:02 yes a bit my m8 says there gud but he went 2 demon hunters instead Reno April 7th, 2004, 18:04 uuuuuummmmmmm.i might go 4 eldar alaitoc. Pandora April 7th, 2004, 18:09 They're crazy g00d, and fun t0 play. Reno April 7th, 2004, 18:13 thank you for da help ill prob go for eldar :) ty :) Gray Wolf April 7th, 2004, 19:00 The Imperial Guard is a ranged attack army, both in infantry and tanks. As far as I know, you can field a whole squad of Cadian Snipers or ratlings marksmen. And with a Basilisk Artillery tank and some Mortar squads, you can pinn down any attacking force before they get into close combat. Though that seems to be their weakness, thay are not good in close combat. ChadFromCanada April 8th, 2004, 02:37 you can get like 5 ratlings in a 14$ blister so that is a plus if you dont want to spend money on snipers, but on the other hand IG is alot of money simply because cadians and other troops cost so little pts wise Pandora April 8th, 2004, 02:51 But Ratlings suck :) sinister_bunny April 8th, 2004, 06:03 Hmm this doesnt realy fit with the whole sniper thing but the deathskullz ork klan list the looter can take lots of sniper rifles probly more then any other army. Pandora April 8th, 2004, 06:40 N0t as much as Alait0c can. And 0rk Sniper Rifles suck. Gray Wolf April 8th, 2004, 08:29 Ratlings are cheap and you need them in constant cover, or they will suck. I've also been on both ends with these guys, and if played right, will tare any advancing army. They are annoying and often deadly if ignored too long. I would say they are worth ever point. You either ignore them and let them continue to shoot up your army, or you can spend a good number of your force to deal with them. Reno April 8th, 2004, 21:10 i went 4 eldar :) in first day i spent a 10er i bought : 4snipers at 5quid cuz 2 were well painted and a grav tank off my m8 who sold it me for a 5er (its amazingly painted) and for free some idiot who i dont like gave me : a refe lord a swooping hawk 2 snipers and a striking scorpian (i think ive got some other stuff as well but there ata m8s and i cant cheak) Gray Wolf April 8th, 2004, 21:51 Good luck with your eldar army. Just to let you know, they are a difficult army to start out with. Shas'O'J'kaara'D April 14th, 2004, 18:39 WHOAH WHOAH WHOAH THERE!!! I cant believe your going eldar. By personal fighting experience against the eldar, I have seen that the tau are much superior. Eldar saves are like 5+, tau are 4+. The tau's normal infantry guns are strength 5, while the eldar's are 3. The tau hammerhead gunship has a STRENGH 10 SHOT, capable of wounding most anything. Stealth suits allow for a multitude of devious tactics, and Crisis suits are the back bone of the force with extremely powerful shots. YOU WANT SNIPERS???! TAU BROADSIDES CAN SHOOT AT 72 INCHES WITH A STRENGTH 10 SHOT and a 2+ ARMOR SAVE and 2 wounds! Get serious man, and look at the tau before succumbing to the fatal decision of choosing the eldar! chemicalcaveman April 14th, 2004, 19:13 I think someone might be a bit biased ;) . If you are looking for an army with lots of snipers go for Alaitoc. If you want to go for an army with some of the best ranged weaponary in the game then by all means go with Tau. My advise to you if you go with Alaitoc is do not buy the GW sniper models. IMO they are ugly and must be one of the oldest model ranges still available for an army, as well as being expensive. If i were you i would buy the guardian box sets and convert those mini's to snipers by shaving off the curved bits of the shuriken capult and extending the barrel of the gun using a brass rod. If your converting skills can stretch to it, use green stuff to make cammo cloaks. Trust me you will save money in the long run and will have a lot of snipers in no time at all. Gray Wolf April 14th, 2004, 20:02 I think you should consider getting an army that is more forgiving than the eldar. I am not saying to totally abandon them, but a smaller second army to fall back on to. I know this from a past mistake I made when I had an eldar army of my own. They are not for all new players getting into the game. I ended up selling them and buying the Space Wolves after playing around with them. I guess what I am saying is try out each army before you go head long into it. |
