Mano a Mano

This contest is simply a duel between 2 miniatures, whether it be a loyal guardsmen vs. a traitor or a dwarf vs. a dragon...

We are looking for a 'snapshot' of an epic battle, with effort put into creating an original set-up, and realisticaly posed miniatures, as well as painting that helps capture the scene.
Blood, sweat and tears should all be as visable in the finished piece as they would be in the actual fight.

As this is a slightly different theme to those gone before, I will be asking that each entry consists of 2 models (although there can be more minis on a scenic base, the focus must be on a one-on-one fight), and they must be engaged in combat in some sense.
The duel must be submitted on a single display base, although the models may be removable if you wish.

23:59 (GMT) 25th April 2008

Contest Rules:

People entering have one month in which to design, build and paint a model, or models, to the theme set. Members will be expected to post their pictures which will then be placed into a thread for voting. It is done so that people can improve their skills, and try out things. And purely for fun, there is no prize or anything, just the fun of it!

1.) Models from any manufacturer as is allowed, as are scratch built models.

2.) Models must be submitted in this thread, by the deadline above.

3.) Models painted within the time frame are looked upon favourably. (It is of course impossible for us to check). Please use this competition to come up with a new idea.

4.) Pictures can be no wider than 700 pixels

5.) Maximum of two pictures can be posted. Single pictures of multiple views (montages) are allowed.

6.) The organisers of the competition have the right to refuse entry to any applicant if they feel it doesn't meet the criteria

7.) Voting. It is considered bad sportsmanlike to vote for yourself. You are voting on what you think is the most original, unique, clever conversion with the most groundbreaking painting techniques.

EDIT: I have an idea and what I need to do it 8Y. Gonna be a lil duel between a Chaos Raptor and a Necron Destroyer. Pics will be put up soon as soon as I learn how to sculpt fire :D.

I love contests. I love the tension and the additional motivation. I think this is a great concept and it suits me to work on this. I have very little time free at the moment so working on a pair of guys instead of a pair of large armies sounds perfect.

I hope there are lots of entries! Come on people.

I have the best idea evaaaa!!! However it's gonna take me the month just to save up for the two mini's in mind....and they're NOT GW minis! I'd like to enter this but I don't have the time or energy now, and after seeing andu's work I am fearful of his skills.

I just got burgled and lost my digi-cam and, weirdly, my hobby tools amongst other things. I think I'll be mostly sulking this month. I'll be watching with interest, though.

I have finally settled on a theme for my entry, now I just have to get to work on it...
this is easier because of the easter break, and at the same time, harder because there's so many more things distracting me :P

Can I use previously partially painted models? Or must they be brand new/not painted models? I have been watching these competition with great intrest, and Im sorely intrested in perhaps entering one......

Cheesecake: While it is entirely possible for you to enter models you have already painted (as, realistically, we have no method of checking when you painted them), it is firmly discouraged.
These contests are supposed to be a way of getting people to paint something new, possibly something they wouldn't ordinarily be painting, and definately something exciting and interesting!

I now have both an idea and a rough bluetac sketch...
My entry (if it would be making the deadline that is) will be a "snapshot" of a Space Marine fighting a horde of...whatever their name is them small (not ripper-small just small) Tyranids.
So my question is, is it alright if he kills/fights many at once, not only one. Or will there have to be one who is his "main-opponent" and the other ones kept as evil sidekicks?

I also must say it's a great theme this. It's very fun to make a scene instead of the usual single minis.

Ideally, a 'main' opponent is what we're after.
Maybe a gaunt (I suspect that is the 'nid you're talking about) leaping up at the marine, with him strangling/shooting/stabbing at it, or something, while the rest mill about with malicious intent?

I may enter for fun (i havnt a hope in hell of winning with my painting skills or lack there of). My idea is to people, probably assassins each standing on a thin pillar with just enough room to move having a shoot out matrix style. Would be cool if i could pull it off but I shall try!;o

I suppose I'd better make part of this post on topic, so I'll say I won't be entering. I haven't had any brainwaves of what to do, and I'm quite busy on my swordmaster unit.

I have had a rethink of my idea, not at all caused by my sheer inability to sculpt greenstuff to look like anything but a lump of, well... green stuff :0. Will still be using a chaos raptor though 8Y. Will also throw in a spare horma I have lying around, which is already painted but will be repainted in completely different colours to make it a legal entry for the competition :ballon:. And yes. There will be purple.

I'd love to enter this but I don't think I have the tools to do a scenic base where the models can be removed for game use because I have heaps of possessed to make and there is heaps of orks to kill.

I want in the next version of this contest. mano a mano is what i've been holding these two minis back for. I got a set up but i have no way in the Emperor's wide world of finishing in 4 days..i'll catch the next one.

Thinking about it, even if I don't enter this has been fun and, hell, I'm surprised at how well my own project has turned out so far ;). I guess being happy with your own work is the best possible thing that can come with a hobby like this, so even if I can't enter for some reason (Death, Cat attack, Fire, Model suddenly exploding etc.) its still a win.
