View Full Version : Negative Rep

Negative rep is not possible to give anymore. From now you can just give positive rep or no rep. This is to make the community a more friendly place to be. We want this to be a happy community where everyone can have fun and learn more about wargaming and whatever else it involves.

Have fun!

Cheers

Boo! Negative rep for you!

Wait, nevermind.

But in all seriousness I guess it will atleast cut out people neg repping for no good reason.

Thanks Blackhat.

I respect how you actually really care BlackHat , unlike many other forums the Mods and the owners act bitter towards new users and don't try and make they're forums a friendly place.

This conclusion was made by the mod team and not me alone, but thanks anyway. We want our members to have a good time here and with that system it got the opposite for many

All full of awesomeness, in my humble opinion.

Rep for everyone!

I cannot agree more, the Neg rep system could only ever lead to exactly what its name implies 'negativity'. We have a PM system, if anyone has any problem with someone they would be better using that to discuss the problem; and it will be more conducive to actually sorting out issues rather than just aggravating the situation before hand with neg rep. I think I can count on one hand the amount of times I neg repped anyone (and I could have done serious damage to a persons rep if I was so inclined), but I always saw it as somewhat sour grapeish.
Good call all round.

Yes I agree that on evey forums there are the share of trolls who go out of they're way to basically hand out as much negative rep without reason. Even if you did'nt make the choice Black Hat your still awsome cause without you there would be no LO.

Good change!

Actually now that I think about it I wasn't even aware we had negative rep before, now I wonder if I ever got any...

So, er, there's no way now to quietly mark that someone's a tool?
Or see that they've been a tool before?

What about someone who occasionally does a good post, occasionally is a tool, ther's no way to even out the positive rep for the good posts with the negative rep of being an utter horse's backside at times?

I think it's "nice" but about as much use as "sportsmanship" awards in tournaments.

The only way you could see if someone was a "tool" before was if their reputation went below 0, which didn't happen all that often, and generally only did happen over one or two poor posts. That tended to cripple new members to the forum to the point of not even wanting to try to raise it, and most cases of negative rep were given out over silly reasons. It only fostered ill will between members, and we moderators had to deal with it.

What was the point of negative reputation before? Much the same as those "sportsmanship" awards, only more detrimental to the community feel. Reputation isn't necessarily a measure of how awesome a person is vs. how not awesome another is; it's just a fun utility for members to thank eachother with, etc. Don't expect more out of it than that.

I have to say having just had to deal with a massive backlash off someone who I recently neg repped, I will have to agree with blackhat.

It didn't really serve any purpose anyway.

People who are tools usually make it pretty obvious through their posts.

I've never seen negative rep used in a stupid way here, which is a miracle I think...

I know that you are not supposed to just post "I agree" but I agree with this.

Its not like I am going to get neg repped for this!

Cheers.

I've never neg repped nor been neg repped, but i agree, neg repping is not a positive thing on a board.

I got neg-repped while I was still a new(ish) member, like>50 posts. It was by one of the "big shots" on LO and it really put a downer on the whole forum thing for me. I don't think I started a new thread for 3 months after that. I really think the 'Jerk' comment was unnecesary.

In regards to neg-rep, good riddance. Some powers just aren't meant to be wielded. ;Y

I have been neg repped on a few occasions (very few) but it is the comments that got me more than the hit to the points total. I usually found that the neg rep was more to do with personal issues than the thread entry the neg rep was posted against itself. I have had occasion to contest Neg rep but I have usually not asked for the neg rep to be removed because it is more about the inappropriate comments usually added to the neg rep. PM is a much better place for that sort of thing and I am happy that the threads should also see less posts responding to neg rep (this was more common when anonymity was the rule).
I totally understand your downer comment, I have felt similar myself at times but I have been lucky enough to receive positive support from other members and take faith from the vastly outnumbering amount of pos rep I receive when compared to the neg rep. My input is valued by many and that is what is important not the rep points.

Aye, and often in our areas of expertise (What do I know about playing Dark Eldar? Not much :P ).

I think this is a good idea. There are some areas of painting and fluff where, although of no matter in the real world, people can have arguments and get pretty cross. Ultimately they're differences of opinions and don't matter or deserve negative rep, even though they may irritate people.

Where someone steps over the line of polite conversation and does something offensive, then it should go to the mods. Posting a badly-painted model or a controvertial view of the 40k world doesn't deserve to be slapped down, whereas being an ass is a different matter.
