Greetings, all! I am a relatively new player who has enthusiastically (if rather ineptly) embraced the tabletop wargaming hobby. I have recently entered my first map based campaign at the local game store, and am preparing to face off against the High Elves player this weekend.
Having never faced High Elves before, I could really use some advice! Here is the army list I have worked up - (1000 pt game)

General -
Saurus Scar Veteran
shield, armor, great weapon
Blessed of Quetzl, Blessed of Tepok
Charm of the Jaguar Warrior, Aura of Quetzl

Core -
Saurus Warrior w/ command group x 20
Skink Skirmishers x 10

Special -
Saurus Cavalry x 5
Chameleon Skinks x 8

Rare -
Salamander Hunting Pack x 3

I've kind of tried to cover all the bases with this list, figureing that high elves are likely to employ quite a bit of ranged and magic. I opted for no priest because of the assumption that at 1k points my opponent will dominate the magic phase regardless, and I'm not likely to successfully cast many spells. Blessed of Tepok was taken for that extra dispel die.
Saurus Cavalry were selected instead of Kroxigors, due to their superior armor save and mobility. The Scar Vet's great weapon and speed will be relied upon to smash any chariots.
Chameleon skinks seemed a bit pricy, but I figured it will be worth it if they can assassinate a key mage or artillery crew early on in the battle. I have had very little luck with the lower ballistic skill of normal skinks in this regard. The unit of ten normal skinks included serves two purposes - act as the second required core unit and screen for my slower advancing troops until they are within range to charge.
The match will take place on a 4x4 board with variable terrain. Any comments you guys have are appreciated! :)

Seems a good base of a list.

I dont see the need for chamo skinks at 1000 points, there just wont be enough to disrupt. Chamo skinks are good for march blocking from turn 1 and shooting units to death and generally being a nuisance, this is very handy but you can get scouting skinks for half the price. I would scrap the chamo skinks and get some skink scouts (10 is enough or you cant fit them in forests) and then use the spare point to either get a skink priest or bulk up the Cold One riders. 5 Cold ones will get shot to pireces in the first few turns and only 1 or 2 will make the battle line probably.

If you want to keep your JSoD durable, just give him an enchanted shield and Quetzl. Aura of Queztl is only needed if your opponent has cannons or super characters. Enchanted shield is cheaper and will ocme in handy more often.

So if you swap Aura of Quetzl for Enchanted Shield and drop the Chamo skinks for 10 scouting skinks then you have 70 points to play with. Enough for more skinks (woop) or a cheap skink priest or a couple more saurus cavalry.

Obviously this is just my thought and I havent played new High Elves.

What does JSoD stand for?

Jaguar saurus of doom - basically a saurus character with the jaguar charm and various other nasties :)

The name is well deserved. I figured out pretty quickly after starting lizardmen that this guy, properly equipped, is a real beast. He typically runs around the back field, single handedly decimating most non-monster units. Thier defensive capability seems quite good - I've only ever had one die. It was a game vs. Wood Elves, where the elven general had some manner of arrow which ignored armor saves.

new high elves are evil, especially since they got the whole army striking first (gay rule)

easy way to over come this (theres others mind you) is shoot them, i hear elves make good target practice...... use your skinks and magic to soften up the special units (those are the real bad ones, like greatsword wielding ones).its a reason why gunline empire armys make elves a bit nervous. but saurus should be able to handle things like elf spearmen....

I like the list except for the saurus cavalry. Although Im not a fan of saurus in 1k points a block of that size is certainly formidable. I would drop the saurus cav for krox and do as Bleyden suggested and squeeze more skinks in. 3 Salamanders are pure evil at 1k and can certainly decimate units like swordmasters.

Wow, you guys were all spot on! Thanks to everyone for the excellent advice. :) This is a great thread for advice on a smaller game of lizard men vs. high elves, and I hope people keep giving such great ideas!
